Been There, Done That and ThenSome:Timandlesley Do Disneyfor18days!11/2 TR IS UP!pg79

I am also giggling at Lauren passed out in the stroller. Disney tired is the best kind of tired! :thumbsup2

What a great day - despite the Rico Suave experience. I also love the non-frenzied touring style. What a luxury! :cloud9: Your pool day sounds delightful and how nice to get to experience it with friends. :goodvibes

You guys are getting me so excited to save the world with Kim Possible! Are fast passes required for this or could you walk up?

I also :lovestruc Illuminations. Nothing like it! "We are gathered here, around the fire,...." Love it! ::yes::

Good call on the taxi!

Wow! Did you check her pulse?:lmao: That is pure Disney exhaustion right there. I wish I could sleep like that every night!

I want to know if people stood in front of you at Illuminations too???? How far in advance did you snag that bench? We had to watch it from about 4 rows of people back!:sad2: But it was our fault b/c we tried to squeeze in one more TT run before the show and we got there about 5 minutes before it started. Next time we will go early.

The KP missions look like a REALLY good way for DD to entertain herself while I am in WS. Last time she just kept saying, "Where are the rides?" and whining. Maybe this will keep her interest b/c I could stay in WS all week!

I've been debating Coral Reef for our next trip, but I think you have talked me out of it. I've read such bad reviews lately. Why in the WORLD did you leave him $5!!! He should have left YOU $5!!:lmao: That is just unreal! No matter how great the food is, if the service is bad, it just isn't good! Looked like an awesome day though otherwise!

This is just too adorable!
024640x480.jpg

So sorry to hear about your Coral Reef waiter. :scared1: Had you considered speaking with a manager on your way out? We had a medicore waitress our first time at Coral Reef but she was nowhere near as terrible as Rico. I have to log that name in my head and remember it for our upcoming trips. Did Tim's Chocolate Wave taste bad or just look bad?

I would have loved to hear that band playing. :woohoo:How cool. That's also cool you got a mission in Germany. That's our favorite country in the entire WS.

Jealous about Illuminations...my kids cannot stay up late enough for that so we still have to wait a year or two more to see that show again.

It's my first post here but I just wanted to say I'm loving your trip report. Only started reading it a few days ago so it's really keeping me entertained! Your family are beautiful, Lauren and Luke really are a credit to their Mom and Dad. It's wonderful to see such happy children enjoying the magic of disney, they are so lucky to be able to experience this adventure with such fun and loving parents. It really has done my heart good to read about your vacation.

I'm heading to WDW for the first time in October with DH. We've no kids, I'm around the same age as you Lesley but I couldn't imagine the responsibility of bringing up children. You seem to be natural parents who make it look so easy.

Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the rest of the updates

Hey Sweetie....all caught up!!!! I just read Days 7,8, and 9 and can tell you all were having such a wonderful time---too bad about Tim's knee though....I hope he is okay!!! I totally agree with you on all your comparisons of SSR...we thought the same things about the room size, lack of clothing storage, etc. when we were there in 2007. It is a pretty resort on the outside, but the rooms don't live up to the deluxe monaker either IMO. It is so awesome that you all were able to meet up and have SO much fun with Diane and her crew!!! I wish we knew someone that was going while we will be there in September so that Megs could have someone to play with.....since she is an only child, I really feel bad for her when it is just the three of us because she doesn't have another kiddo to have fun with!!! Can we borrow Luke and Lauren??? HEY, why don't you and Tim just come down and join in on the fun too!!! ;) THAT would be AWESOME!!!!! I know she loves being with us, but I can see that she longs to have kids to do things with when it is just the three of us---I see it when we are at KI, so I know she will probably be feeling it at WDW too!!! :( Oh well, we will still have a great time!

I am missing AKL for you too on your behalf.....that place is AMAZING...and I will stop at NOTHING to stay there for our next trip!!!! IT WILL HAPPEN!!!! I am so glad that is your "home!"

Can't wait for more!

Loved the update Lesley. We had Rico before at Coral reef. If it weren't for the tank side table it would have been just awful. He was just downright rude. Coral Reef has not been on list since then :sad2:. He is lucky you even left him $5. Anyway love the WS pics. Good for you taking a cab back to SSR :thumbsup2 worth the $10.

Another great installment Lesley!! Also - I heard you on the podcast (so cool that you got through) It was fun to match voices to some of the pictures / posts from everyone. Good questions/comments.

Days 7,8 and 9 sound so amazing. I'm just sorry that waiter had to ruin your meal at Coral Reef. We'll be going there for ther first time in our upcoming vacation I hope our experience isn't so bad. I love the way your kids show their enjoyment in everything they do.

Great update! I love that your trip was long enough that you could sleep in some and take time to smell the roses.
It's a shame that your Coral Reef dinner was ruined by the waiter. I know that was one of your families favorite restaurants.
The Kim Possible missions look like lots of fun. I can't wait to try it in 43 more days.

Another great update. Poor Tim, Knee pain is not fun. Cute pics of your kids, isn't the best when the hug! Looking forward to more updates!

:)Another great day for you guys! :goodvibes

I'm laughing out loud at Lauren dancing because my girl (who is also 5) dances NON STOP as well. It's something you have to see to appreciate. From what i can tell - they act so much alike!

Can't wait for the next installment!:)

I totally agree with you on all your comparisons of SSR...we thought the same things about the room size, lack of clothing storage, etc. when we were there in 2007.

We have only ever stayed in a 2 BDRM at SSR so maybe that is why we didn't notice the lack of space/storage. In fact, we have always been very happy with our space and the resort in general. We do grocery delivery so we don't have to use the CS. Our 3 kids love the pools and really enjoyed the Community Hall and activities.
We have only ever done a studio with just DH and I. We always go for the larger villas with the kiddos. I don't think I could fit my 15 y.o. and 13 y.o. boys on the pull out couch;) And I do miss the king size bed that the 2 BDRM has.
That's one of the great things about DVC though...you can explore all the resorts. We hope to eventually stay at all of them.
Glad y'all had such a lovely trip! I agree with you...how nice it seems to be able to sleep in and just take it all so slow at Disney! :goodvibes
Looking forward to hearing morepopcorn::

Another fantastic day! Aside from Rico. We had a waiter like that in Mexico a couple years ago. It does ruin the dining experience, doesn't it?

I love Epcot nights too. Especially World Showcase. And Illuminations is my favorite. Did people not stand up in front of you while you were sitting on the bench? Glad Tim had somewhere to sit. How is his knee, by the way? Does he have to have more surgery?

Fun that you kept running into Diane and her family. And great that you got to change your reservation and eat at Teppan Edu with them. It would be more fun to sit at those big tables with people that you know. We ate there this trip and sat with two other couples. Had to make small talk. I'm not always the best at that.

I love the pictures of Lauren dancing her way out of the Living Seas. How adorable! She crashed hard after all that swimming and dancing. And Luke with the light-up clip-on earrings - too cute!

Lesley, we started our trip out at SSR and since we were moving to BCV 1 br in 3 days we totally lived out of suitcases and our purple locker. We've stayed at SSR in a studio a couple times before, once a couples trip and the other 2 times just the 3 of us. I agree, not the best for storage. We were on 5 night trips so we really didn't have too much stuff.
Just a word of warning, if you ever make the move to a 1 br it will totally ruin you for a studio, I was warned.....amd now I'm ruined.

So glad you had so much fun with Diane, Brian and the boys! Love the fact that you all are planning next year together!
so how much room exactly are we talking in a 1 bedroom, can you explain the layout to me? It is TEMPTING!!!
I :lovestruc the DIS podcast. Can't wait to listen and say "I "know" her!" :)
Did you hear it?

What a funny story! You just gotta love kids' imaginations!

And... once again... I'm INSANELY jealous!!! Good for you guys, though!
We'll have to plan a trip with you guys soon, wish you could go in the summer!

I am downloading the show right now!! :yay:

You should come on the Podcast Cruise! ::yes::

Great update too-I love going to the parks, but trips that are long enough to have slow non-park days always hold special magic it seems! Ohana is so delicious, isn't it? I love your purple tank top that you wore there--can I ask where did you buy it?

We stayed at SSR on our Developer points too-we did a 1 bedroom for most nights, and a studio for 1 night, so we didn't unpack. I didn't even realize about the lack of storage! What a pain that would be for a long trip! We were in Congress Park, so it was a HIKE to the main buildings, which kinda irritated me, but overall the resort is really beautiful and I would stay there again-I'd just be sure I didn't have to go to the main building very often!
I wish I could come on the Podcast cruise, but it's right in the middle of the school year and I'm using up all of my personal days for our October trip. The purple shirt I got at Old Navy, was there yesterday and they are still selling them. : )

What a fun day you all had Lesley! I love Luke's shirt. He's a hoot! :)
Thanks! Yes, he is : )
You did not sound like a dork or anything, you sounded great!! Good question too - Luke, have fun with Pirate's League! :goodvibes
Thanks so much, I appreciate it!

The kids are now joining you for F&W?! When did that happen (did I miss the announcement)? I know it's so hard to leave the kids, BUT, I HIGHLY recommend a mom and dad only trip in the future. We saw a completely different side of Disney when we had our adults-only long weekend in May. I saw Disney in a totally different light (missed my kiddos for sure, but it was so wonderful, relaxing, romantic...) You won't be sorry you did it.

Enjoying the report. :thumbsup2
Yes, they are. We compromised and decided we are bringing them because they are still young, LOVE Disney and better yet still love traveling with their parents, we don't get many years of that as parents. We are doing the MNSSHP and we are thrilled about that and then on Sat. night we'll put the kids in child care and hit Food and wine by ourselves. we will plan a couples getaway when the kids are a little older.
Lesley

Lesley, any link you can post so we can hear the dis podcast?:)
There isn't a link that I know of but if you go to the main www.disboards.com webpage, click on the big "Dis Podcast" icon on the top right, then click on "email show" from this week and I'm on that, I'm towards the end of the show. Enjoy!

Great comparison of resorts. I am so happy we're starting off at SSR then moving to AKL, sounds like we're gonna love it:lovestruc

How nice that you were able to spend time with Diane and her family....to be in the same resort at the same time.....all the stars were aligned;)

Love Luke's shirt...made me laugh out loud. Great review of O'Hana's, one of my fav's:cloud9:

I think we're going to do the cab thing too, just seems to make things easier than wasting time catching buses:cool1:
Yes, that will be good doing SSR first. Yes stars were aligned, such fun!

Hey, Lesley!!!'
I'm sad to hear that SSR isn't your favorite resort. I was really looking forward to hearing what you thought about it, especially since it's our home resort. The storage situation stinks. Are there not any closets there? We'll be staying there for the first time in March (for the Princess 1/2), so it's nice to hear your thoughts. It definitely helps me to know what to expect as far as the locations, etc!
'Ohana looked SOOOO good. I cannot wait to eat there for the first time!
I'm sorry, I was worried about owners at SSR, I don't want to offend anyone, it's Disney and I'm sure you will have a great time, we personally just love love love AKL. OHana is great, enjoy it when you go!
Lesley, that is so cool that you are on the DIS podcast -- if you can give us a link that would be great!
I don't know of a direct link, but if you go to disboards.com's main page there is a big icon at the top that says "Dis podcast", click on that, then click on the email show from this week in the "listen now" section, I'm toward the end of the show.

Awesome Day indeed! I am going to have to check out that Kim Possible thing! Thanks for the ideas and as always, I love your tr!!! :thumbsup2
KP is awesome, you will love it. Thank you for reading/posting ; )

your trip report is wonderful!
Thank you so much :flower3:

I am DYING laughing at Lauren PASSED OUT in the stroller, that girl is go go go, so to see her like that is too funny! I was also cracking up at you "dead lifting" her into the van! Luke was too funny with his light up clip earrings! Lauren had a BAD food day that day, awful Rico the ice cream swiper and don't forget about the door jammed goldfish!!!! GREAT UPDATE!!
You are too funny Diane!!! I forgot about the goldfish.... poor Lauren!

Wow, you're not kidding Lauren was OUT.:lmao: I have read so many great reports about how convenient and cheap a cab ride is if you need it. I will keep that in mind.

It looked like the people standing next to the iron fence during Illuminations in front of your bench crouched down? Is that what they did? I was wondering if people would stand in front of your view since you were on the bench.

Way for Tim to speak up at Coral Reef. The wait staff can really make or break your dining experience. We love Coral Reef just like Luke. How did Luke feel about Coral Reef? What a great idea to save their light-up thingys and bring them to dinner at Coral Reef!
Yes she was OUT, cab was a life saver that night.
You know, the people in front of us were SO nice, they came in and respectfully sat down to watch them, the person you see to the left was in an ECV and her husband sat next to Tim on the bench, just nice people that night. We have always had good luck in Morocco, not that crowded back there and a great viewing spot. Luke really enjoyed Coral Reef, we hid our disgust of Rico from him for the most part, didn't want to ruin his restaraunt experience.

Still catching up on reading ,and I am on page 31,but I have to reply about the comments you made about Ariel and the bus.First...OMG,I so agree with you about this girl as Ariel.I find it hard to believe that Disney couldn't find someone better to fill this role. Nothing against the girl herself really, but she just seems older then Ariel should be,she even seems to be out of character..her face just has this whole I don"t want to be here,I don't care sort of look....and with all the kids out there competeing for roles like this at Disney,I don"t understand why this girl was chosen to fill this role....she must know someone!!!:rotfl:

Second...I know what you mean about how men and grown boys won't stand for others who obviously need a seat. Once we were on a bus and were in the back, however there was a woman who was pregnant and carrying a sleeping toddler, trying to hold on because she didn't have a seat. We didn't notice at first since she was more towards the middle and other people were in standing in front of us. My husband heard someone else who was standing make a comment about this poor woman, and then he stood up and told the person to have her come back and she could have his seat.Well...would you believe that another guy in his 20's just quickly plopped right in the seat my husband had been sitting in ,before standing up to give it to the preganat woman!!!!:sad2: Of course my husband got a bit loud as he made a comment to this guy,and so did alot of others around us. The guy stands up looking all embarrassed and apologizes and said he didn't know, and I felt bad for him at first,as maybe he didn"t. Well, the lady sat down,we arrive at our hotel, and all get off the bus.And guess what we see as we are walking away. The same guy was walking ahead of us,and there was a woman with him,who had been standing right aside of my daughter, and the two of them are all cozey and snuggly with each other as they are walking together. The woman was young too,but still...whether she was his girlfriend or wife,I just couldn"t quite grasp that he would choose to sit down instead of offering what he thought was an open seat(since obviously my DH wanted to stand up...:rotfl2:) to his own wife or girlfriend! That is bad,but then to not offer it to some poor woman struggling to balance herself while holding a sleeping child, that was just obscene! So my 19 year old daughter says ,"Oh,he's quite a catch! I hope for her sake they use some good birth control!" I couldn"t help but bust out laughing! :rotfl:
that is a TERRIBLe bus story, halarious about your daughters comment though. Glad you are getting caught up. Yes, that Ariel just wasn't what you see in the story books at all!

SSR has never erally appealed to me but after seeing the pics I am lovin the pool.:thumbsup2
Great update. I told my husband today that I found your report and he was all "oh really? I wanna read that". I was SHOCKED..he is not usually the DISsing type.:worship:

Illuminations is wonderful:cloud9:
That is so funny, hope he likes it. Yeah, the pools at SSR are great!

Wow, Luke really looks grown-up in these photos!
I know, my baby is growing up SOOOO fast! I'm trying to soak it in because he still thinks mom is the best and I know that won't last long!
Another great update

How cool your family and Diane family running into each other again..so much fun :cool1:

Bummer about your meal at Coral Reef. Good for Tim speaking up :thumbsup2
Yes, we had a great time with Diane and her family. Yeah, Tim isn't one to hold his tongue : )

Love the update, as usual. Illuminations is such a great show! I listen to the music from it constantly.

Lauren's dancing is too cute!

Glad you guys had such a great day.
Glad you enjoyed the update. Illuminations music is the greatest!

Another great day as usual! Looks like a really fun morning at the pool!

How nice you got to spend time with your friends as well! Can't believe the rudeness of Rico the waiter! And imagine taking a kids ice cream away without asking! That really would have caused a rucus in my camp!LOL

Lauren looks so funny - she really was out cold wasn't she! Great idea about the cab tho -will need to keep that in mind!

Carreen
xxx
Hi Careen, yeah it was a great Disney day. Rico was the worst! Luke wanted me to tell everyone that he shared his ice cream with Lauren : )
Mental note. During our Sept trip, ask to be moved if placed in Ricos section!

Maybe we'll avoid him though as we are going for lunch!

You did great on the podcast! Asked a great question also! Hope Luke enjoys getting all done up!

Fantastic pictures!! How fun to have a nice relaxing morning!! I also thought the kids meals were particularly bad at SSR. We would share with the boys and use Connors credit to get them something different later.

Poor Lauren was all the way out for the count!!
Yeah, avoid Rico at all costs. Glad you enjoyed the pics. Yeah, she was out cold!

:goodvibes

I also :lovestruc Illuminations. Nothing like it! "We are gathered here, around the fire,...." Love it! ::yes::

Good call on the taxi!
Yes she was quite passed out after Illuminations, the non frenzied touring style was incredible! I guess you could walk up for KP but getting a FP is so easy and then you are guaranteed a phone, also it doesn't count against any other FP's so you might as well.

Wow! Did you check her pulse? That is pure Disney exhaustion right there. I wish I could sleep like that every night!

I want to know if people stood in front of you at Illuminations too???? How far in advance did you snag that bench? I know, she was dead to the world wasn't she! The KP missions are awesome, saw more of the World showcase than ever this trip! I would vear away from Coral Reef, do Chef's De France, LeCellier and Teppan Edu instead in my oppinion!

This is just too adorable!

Glad you liked the pic. I don't think Tim ate much of his chocolate wave because he was so put off by the way it looked. The Bon Jovi band ROCKED! You'll see Illuminations some day... it will be worth the wait!

It's my first post here but I just wanted to say I'm loving your trip report. Only started reading it a few days ago so it's really keeping me entertained! I'm honored you put your first post on our TR, WELCOME to the Dis boards! Thank you for your compliments, you are so so sweet :flower3: I am glad you are enjoying the TR

Don't be jealous Sooze, you should COME TOO!! How fun would that be!!!:thumbsup2
AGREED!!!!!

Hi! Sure, if you want to take Luke nad Lauren with you to Disney I KNOW they'd come along. We should meet up at KI some time so Megan can have playmates on the rides, my kids would love it! Yes, AKL is amazing, you will love it when you stay there (I know you'll make it happen : )

Loved the update Lesley. We had Rico before at Coral reef. If it weren't for the tank side table it would have been just awful. He was just downright rude. Poor Tim indeed, it gets worse during the trip unfortunately. Updates to come.

2 Bedrooms would be heavenly, but we need more points before we can do that, figured we would stay in studios until the kids get older and we have to make the switch.

Another fantastic day! Aside from Rico. We had a waiter like that in Mexico a couple years ago. It does ruin the dining experience, doesn't it?

Hi Alice, glad you enjoyed the installment. Fortunately he doesn't have to have surgery again, but is going to physical therapy several times a week, it is a slow recovery process. Yes, it was fun being able to hang out with Diane and her family. Happy to hear you enjoyed Laurens dancing photo's, she cracks me up. And Luke with his light up earrings, when he saw it he said "mom, you told me you weren't going to put that in there". . . .oops, I don't remember saying that : )
Lesley

so how much room exactly are we talking in a 1 bedroom, can you explain the layout to me? It is TEMPTING!!!

We are going in a couple of weeks. Staying on developer points at SSR. We are starting in a studio then moving up to a 1 BR. I'll let you know about the difference in size. We did 15 nights last year in the All Stars, so I'm really looking forward to staying DVC!! Can't wait for our Feb trip to stay at AKV!

Yes, they are. We compromised and decided we are bringing them because they are still young, LOVE Disney and better yet still love traveling with their parents, we don't get many years of that as parents. Disney is a magical place. It is the only place my 14 YO son still holds my hand and actually acknowledges that we are related! :lmao: Three years ago Pat & I took our first Couples Only vacation during February school vacation. The kids were finally old enough but I still I felt guilty (for about a day! :rotfl2:). It was one of the best things we did for our marriage. We have already told the kids that every other year will be a Mom & Dad only DVC trip.
KP is awesome, you will love it.

So looking forward to doing this on our trip! You have us very excited about it!!

Great trip report so far as always! Looking forward to the next installment...

Another fabulous update!!!! I love how excited your children are to be at Disney...and love the dancing...that is just awesome!!!

Sorry you didn't have the greatest meal at Coral Reef, its amazing how much of an impact a server can have on your meal, really can make or break the dining experience.

Those KP missions look like a hoot, I really wouldn't mind trying one myself :rolleyes1

Can't wait for more!

I am so sorry your waiter at Coral Reef was horrible. I always worry about that kind of stuff. We pay so much to do Disney and then you get stiffed with a jerk like that. Lauren and her dancing is hilarious! Does she take dance class Lesley?
