Day 3 Thursday, June 2.
I haven't really discussed crowds much so far so let me start. On arrival day being at BCV we decided the most logical thing to do since we arrived mid-afternoon was to go to Epcot. It was fairly busy. We went to MK on Wednesday and the crowds were really very light. Fastpass times were not far from the time you got them at MK that day. Now we come to Day3, at DHS.
I am a big believer in arriving right at opening if at all possible. We ran a little late getting to DHS. We arrived around 9:25 or so with opening being at 9:00. It was very busy and crowded already. ToT was already a 70 minute wait. I went and got Fastpasses for RNR with the return time of 11:30-12:30. We headed towards the other side of the park and went to do Muppetvision which has a great deal of sentimental value for us. Our first stay at WDW in 1997 it was our first attraction we did and was our first stop next few trips to come.
After Muppets we took DD for her to audition for American Idol. DD is an accomplished singer with classical training who starts college in August on a music scholarship. She didn't get chosen, they were very complimentary and encouraging to her about continuing to pursue singing but were looking for people who sing pop songs. While DD and DDF were at American Idol, DW and I went to Voyage of Little Mermaid. I can't remember the last time that we did Mermaid but it had been a while. I sat behind one of the few tall Japanese men I have ever seen and had to kind of look around his head!
We left Mermaid around a few minutes after DD finished her audition. We met up and headed for our fastpass time at RNR and arrived just as our time opened up. When we got in the car I had my shoulder bag under my feet and my hat in my hand. When we made the first inversion the bag slid from under my feet so I was reaching trying find it. Fortunately it had just slid under DW feet, but i felt a little panicked as my bag holding my camera was no longer within my reach! My mind so focused on that bag that I didn't realize until we had walked out of the building that I no longer had my hat in my hand. I assume I left it in the car or I let go of it during the ride and it was somewhere inside the ride!
We left RNR hatless and headed to Mama Melrose for lunch. This place doesn't get the best of reviews but we have enjoyed many excellent meals here and this was no different. We arrived at 12:00 for our ADR as had many others as that is their opening time. We were seated with in 5 minutes and had an excellent waiter who currently lived in NC but was originally from Alabama. He went over the menu pretty thoroughly and was very informative.
I had:
Chicken Pipette Wood-grilled Chicken - over Pipette Pasta tossed with Artichokes, Peas, Roasted Peppers, and Sweet Onions in a Basil Four-Cheese Cream Sauce $17.99 Substitute Shrimp $19.99
I had it with the shrimp and let me say it was delicious! The shrimp were large plump and plentiful and the cream sauce was just wonderful.
DW had:
Oak-grilled Pork Chop - with Roasted Garlic Bread Pudding, Onion Broth, and Tomato Jam $21.99
The menu has changed it came with mac and cheese which DW said was delicious as was the pork chop.
Both girls had flatbreads and I believe they are larger than they once were. they took go boxes.
We had had enough of the DHS crowds and decided to he back to BCV for an afternoon nap.
When we got up from our nap we headed to Epcot. My DW has an knows a lady whose son works for Siemans at Spaceship Earth. I believe he helped in the redesign of the corporate offices when they took over from AT&T. He emailed us a password to gain access to their VIP lounge Base 21. After touring the facility the receptionist took us in the VIP entrance to Spaceship Earth and gave us a VIP card to go to the GM VIP lounge at Test Track. We rode SE and then headed to Test Track and went to their VIP lounge which had some very cool vantage points for Epcot views and seeing a view from above of Test Track. Once we had hung around there long enough we went down an elevator and got access to the first Test Track car that arrived. We were big shots for a short time.
With our VIP status now over Dw and I headed to the margarita stand. She had the Fiesta and I had the lime. We found a bench in the shade and drank and people watched, a theme that would reoccur a few times during the trip.
Particularly the shaded bench and people watching.
We slowly strolled our way back towards BCV stopping here and there while the girls did some exploring of their own including splitting a meal at the Morocco cs. Once back to the resort, I went to the quiet pool and basically had it to myself so I swam laps, probably a half mile or so. We wathced Illuminations, at least the high fireworks from our balcony.
