BCV - so disappointed!

Sorry for your.... bad experience. Personally, I don't think I could survive 19 days in a studio with two other adults and a child even if it were on the secret 5th floor concierge at VB! Forget drawer space, I would just need more breathing space.

Not being snarkey, rather than sell I think you should get a few more points and move up to a 1 bdrm if you are going to take such long getaways.

JMHO :beach:

I'm really sorry things were so bad. I just hope this is a villa that's going to be completely updated soon. I still remember having a studio at BCV a couple years ago that was in such poor condition, I complained to the head of maintence. He was around pointing out what needed to be done, so did I have a suggestion for him! I'd love to know the condition of that studio now. My understanding is that the BCV rooms are all being rehabbed this year. This sounds like one that really needs it!

I'm sure I'm just a bad parent, but someone tell my what is wrong with a ground level room? Nobody has yet to answer that for me and I want to know if I'm missing something.

I can understand why you want one higher up if you put a premium on views. However, for me nothing can compare to walking 50 feet out of your room and being able to jump into your car to head to a park. It's like "BAM", you're there with minimum hassle.

I don't know about BCV but the HA studios in BWV have a small wardrobe instead of a closet. It is crammed full since it is also used to store the ironing board, pack'n'play and vacuum cleaner. So you either have no space to hang clothes or you have to unload all that stuff and stash it in the corner of your room and look at it every day (not very magical looking at a vacuum cleaner and ironing board all week!) There is no wall safe. That is usually in the closet so I guess no closet means no safe. (Don't know why there wasn't some other wall space they could have used.) And there is just a tiny amount of storage space in the bathroom since there is no vanity. You get a very small shelf above the sink that was just deep enough to hold a glass and not very wide.

So if the HA studios in BCV are anything like the one we stayed in at BWV, it really would not be a pleasant room for such a long stay. I'm hoping that since I took my turn, I won't have to stay in another one for a while!

I must say I was surprised to find that alot of studios at AKV have no proper closet and have to make do with the small wardrobe, half of which is stuffed full of iron, ironing board etc. But we made do and worked round it, to be honest I like the rooms as they are now. Even for 15 days worth of clothes we found the wardrobe was big enough and we had a bit of space left over!

Claire ;)

Seriously, no flames intended here but I hope even you can appreciate the disconnect between these two statements. Most of your post is spent detailing the ordeal of being assigned FOUR different rooms before finding something that you felt was acceptable...and then you question why the staff might be a little grumpy.

I realize that certain aspects of the room were important to you, but the same can be said for every single one of us. Yet there are times we must make compromises.

Can you imagine the chaos and frustration among CMs if every single guest returned to the front desk 3 and 4 times before finding something they liked?

VERY true! It's why in 11 years of membership we have never had to change rooms. Okay, not quite true. Our first trip we arrived at our OKW 1 bedroom to find it contained someone's suitcase and a used handtowel thrown on the bed. The front desk was very appologetic and started the process of "evicting" the offender. We, in turn, got another room!

If the OP wasn't happy, respect their feelings and desires. If Disney isn't able to make our vacations magical, no matter what our expectations are, then it's time to sell and move on.

Well...

One of the things I REALLY believe is that you have to make "magic" Disney can only do so much. My boyfriend for example will NEVER have a magical vacation at Disney:rotfl: He's a skeptical type of person, doesn't get Disney and really "looks" for things to dislike!:lmao:

I on the other hand make it a point NOT to let things ruin my magic. So yes, I might get the front desk manger at CSR who told me that (A) he really dislikes dealing with guests and (B) I should not object to having a room with NO power:rotfl2: I just got a room with power and had a good vacation. I sprinkle my own :wizard:

I think one thing DVC members tend to do is "expect" Magic to be given to us. I expect to "give" Magic to others. That's why I have been giving away my trading pins to kids for example. If I make "magic" it seems to multiply. If I spend my vacation FUMING about the manger at CSR I can gurantee EVERYTHING else will be bad on that stay.

Now I think OP is truly entitled to thier view and IF it's going to "ruin the magic" from here on out then they really do have to sell. It's that simple. For me that wouldn't but I know that I tend to be able to let go of things like that... I figure if I don't like the room this time next time I will get a better one...

I'm sorry you had what apparently was a bad experience for you.

Personally, I know that I could not handle that many days in a studio even if everything was perfect.

I would stay for a shorter period of time in a 1 bedroom, but that's just me and you're certainly entitled to use your points in whatever way you choose.

Hope your next trip, if there is a next trip, is better for you.

Your not a bad parent and you don't mind a ground level room, apparently the OP does and we should respect that.

I'm right there with. I can't imagine staying in a studio with that many people for 19 days. I also can't imagine me ever being so picky that it would take four room choices to please me. Doesn't sound like the resort is the problem to me. Sorry to be abrupt but that is the way I see it.

I can only speculate that the OP wanted to be able to leave the doors open to the balcony/patio and is afraid on ground floor their child will escape unattended. I can't think of any other reason.

Somehow I don't get the impression the OP even pre-requested "any floor but ground". That seems like a request easily granted if known ahead of time, unless of course they arrived late.

Without speculation, I can say this much... They won't have any trouble selling their points.

The disrepair, general indifference of CM's at BCV as well as rooms that just appear abused are all reasons that though we own at BCV we have not stayed there in years. Why deal with it if you don't have to! OP don't sell your points just try a different resort first! Once you do you will see that service and CM's at BCV are very poor--on my experiences of course--and other resorts have been much better again IMHO.

I'm not sure that we should. Requests are requests with DVC. Booking categories (like the 2 Bedroom issue Jen ran into) are a different kettle of fish, but everything going on here is not being happy not having requests met.

DVC operates at high occupancy. Most times of the year, someone is going to have to be in a less desirable room. A tree will block their view, it will be on the "wrong" floor, it will be a HA room for a family that doesn't need it, it may be the balcony-less room at VWL or the rooms that face other rooms at BWVs.

All of us members (and some renters) visit DVC over and over again. When someone else consistently turns down undesirable rooms, that means other members are more likely to get them. I don't think that is behavior that is best for the DVC "community." It takes staff time, which impacts us all in terms of dues, and it creates an unfair room situation for other members who are willing to stay in less desirable rooms.

I'm not saying anyone should accept dirty rooms, or rooms obviously in need of major maintenance. But turning down a room because of location is not acceptable to me. She should have been charged the room change fee for every one of those switches - that is what it is there for - to compensate for cleaning and administrative costs in switching rooms.

Very well said.

Great points as usual!

We've never changed rooms. There's been two rooms in like 30 stays that I've not particularly cared for. I just figured it was our turn for those rooms.

I'd never stay 19 days in a studio with more than 2 people.

I wasn't bagging on the OP, I just couldn't figure out what was "unsafe" or bad about a ground level room.

Is it common in Florida to leave the windows and doors open when it's 92 degrees and the humidity is 99%? I'm from the north so whenever I'm in Florida I use the air conditioner.

Especially BCV, between the size and popularity it can be slim pickins. We arrived at 7AM in August 07 on a Sunday, and were told only two (2) rooms were checking out that day of "dedicated 2BR's". One woods, one canal which we took and it was pool view as well as canal. But at that point we would have gladly taken anything since SAB :beach: and EPCOT ADR's :drinking1 were calling :mic: :listen: .

I agree with the poster on the handicap rooms. We have stayed in twice in handicap rooms at the BCV. There are 4 of us (DH,me, DD and DS 12 yr old). On our last stay the mirror frame in the bathroom fell off the wall and it me in the head!

We had to put our toiletries on the floor because there is no shelf space in the bathroom. The countertop space where one would normally prepare sandwiches is gone due to the need to amend the room to a handicap accessible. It can only fit the sink and microwave. Forget about the drawers for clothes. Believe me, I pack very lightly. We ended up lving out of our suitcases.

I would think for a handicap room, storage, shelving, and counter space would be extremely important for someone who requires such a room. I has no problem there is not a bathtub, a shower is fine. But, I need to be able to store other things during a week-long visit.
