Barry Manilow Refuses The View because of Rosie?

I'm puzzled as to why the title of this thread has Rosie's name in it.:confused3Nowhere in the article is her name mentioned as the reason BM doesn't want to appear.

Like I posted, there was an early morning article that I read which mentioned Barry's friendship with Rosie. Some may suggest that Barry is grandstanding on behalf of Rosie. ;)

Hasselbeck has been rather insulting of late with people who disagree with HER -- she interrupts while a celeb is resopnding to a question asked by another one of the hosts with a vehement "I DON'TAGREE WITH YOU!" Not that I'd expect Manilow to face political questions in the same way as Sarandon and Sheen, but maybe he's actually watched the show and doesn't want to be faced with being insulted to his face and faced with the dilemma of whether to take it or speak up and appear like he was attacking the Princess. Maybe Sarandon and Sheen's sexual proclivities haven't been equated by EH to "next people will want to marry their toaster!"

She railed against women having babies out of wedlock then minutes later was gushing over Patty Scialfa recently - Scialfa turned the tables and said "You know Bruce and I had babies before we were married" -- ooops!

Good for Barry. They typically have a pair of the hosts with a musical guest -- he just didn't want to deal with her. EH has made it clear SHE had no intention of appearing with anybody from Law and Order... what's the difference?

If the CB does not get one Rosie thread per week it will self destruct..I thank
Kribit for saving this board

Hey, I've never started a Rosie thread and thought it would liven things up. :) Yikes!

I can't stand Rosie and I never watch the View but I thought it was interesting that Barry had to use his friend to promote his new music. I would be upset if I were Rosie.

Does it occur to anyone that Barry wants to promote his album, not talk about his political beliefs? The fact that he made a request, and he was turned down, may have been a clear indication to him, that they possibly were planning on ambushing him and purposely having him interviewed by Elizabeth.

Just as The View has every right to decide what content they want on their show, Barry has a right to decide he only wants to be on shows in which the focus is on promoting his album & music. The show is called The View, not American Bandstand.

You know, I've always been a secret Barry fan ('cause I don't even want think about the ridicule I'd face from family and friends if I admitted it! LOL) but I think he's just being a diva here.
And it's not a flattering picture of him I'm getting. Come on Barry, grow up, you can talk to Elizabeth about music and who knows? Maybe you'll find some common ground and realize that although everyone is the world doesn't believe the same things as you do they might be fun, interesting folks and getting to know them might be a worthwhile endeavor. Or not.
But quit being a diva and crybaby making a silly publicity stunt. It's beneath you and will make people think less of you, not more.

I guess they didnt have that in Patty's bio or EH probably wouldnt have gone there.

Never heard this issue with L&O. What is her beef with it?

I mean Fred Thompson is on that show, what's not to like:lmao:

When I heard that he was backing out of the show I just thought what a real jerk. There are four other women. If he isn't a fan of Elizabeth for political reasons so what? I thought he was there to talk about is new cd he has coming out? I think it is all about Rosie. He may not say it, but it is. Personally I am know fan of the guy or his music. Even if he showed up on the show I would not have watched. What I hate the most is when entertainers use their forum for expressing political beliefs. Stick to what you do best. Singing, acting, talking. Leave politics out. For me that makes me dislike the person even more.

I forget which L+O it was, but one of them had a "pretty blonde" named Elizabeth Hassenbook or something brutally beaten and raped and murdered. She called to complain and they blew her off and she declared that she would not be part of any appearances any of their cast wanted to make on The View.

I actually took her side on that one -- it was a pretty ugly slam at her, and I don't buy that they didn't know exactly what they were doing when they picked that name.

Ok that one seems a little different and personal to me then Barry's issue IMHO.

Exactly, she is an employee of their show, nothing more. And if I go to a grocery store and don't want a particular checker, or bank teller, or food server, I am well within my rights to go to a different checker, teller or server area, aren't I?
Except he isn't buying a tomatoe or making a withdrawel. He's trying to (supposedly) get promotional time for his new album. What does that have to do with her or his political leanings? And would you be supporting Manilow if he was saying he didn't want to be interviewed by Whoopi because she was black?

Wouldn't this thread be interesting if Manilow was a conservative and the Hassellback (or whatever her name is) was a liberal? Barry was supposed to be on talking about his album. What the heck does that have to do with his political leanings?

AOL in their headline says Barry said that Elizabeth was "dangerous". I didn't see it in the story, but that is not about his album.

I think that Barry is representing the far-far left very well with his intolerance.

Wouldn't it be funny if all the Liberals in Hollywood refused to do the show with EH:rotfl:

Well, sitting here with 'The View' on in the background I cannot say I am one-bit surprised if his issue is with Elisabeth! Where is that girls OFF button??

How can one person know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING!?!?!?!?!
Or, at least THINK they do:rolleyes1

She interrupts and adds her 2-cents worth every single time there is a conversation going on!

I wish she would just go away!

I totally agree with you, I can't stand her!

The View did the right thing by not giving in to his demands. It would have started a pathetic trend amongst all the divas.

How can one person know EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING!?!?!?!?!

What she does know is transmitted to her earpiece by Bill Geddes, the producer. No, I'm not kidding. Watch her "listening" and staring blankly into space and then pouncing into a conversation with "I think I read that [insert random factoid about the topic at hand]."

It's quite amusing once you know to look for it.

I'm disappointed to hear that BM is so intolerant that he can't discuss his new album with someone who he doesn't agree with politically. (Hey, I'm a fan of Barry Manilow, but find myself giggling about his initials - I'm so mature!)

Her opinions are "out there" and don't deserve mainstream access. Either she (or the program) should go away. Good for Barry & I hope others follow his lead.

I could not agree more. She is one of the more annoying people on television today. Her political views are almost frightening. She is a self absorbed pompous little diva.

His music has always been lame yet hummable.

But i agree with his decision not to perform on a program with a right wing reactionary mouthpiece who advocates our troops remaining in Iraq for an indefinite period of time with NO strategy in place.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: Her ideas are hardly "out there". Rosie was "out there". Smart move for Barry. He is trying to sell a CD and he just alienated half of his potential customers.

Her political views are almost "frightening"?

So Barry's going to run like a little school girl! :rotfl:

That smacks of censorship. I think everyone should have an opportunity to be heard, even those I disagree with.

Not frightening to me one bit. Refreshing at times compared to the diva drivel from Rosie.
