Baltimore BOT-Fest

So I see on facebook, all you Disney runners are really ramping up the miles. Good for you all.

Not so fast there young lady
! I am a Disney runner and I am slacking off ala Jodi. :rolleyes1

Well... well ...well! Here I am feeling all guilty for not getting over here for a couple of weeks, thinking that the boards are burning up and I missed very little. Whew!

I have to make a confession. I have not run in over 2 weeks. I feel fat, bloated and unattractive....I've eaten every cookie, pie and cake in sight. I am so unmotivated to get out there in the frigid tempertures, in the AM or PM darkness, to get some miles in. What's wrong with me? :upsidedow

The last few times I did run, I aggrivated the latent PF in my left foot. Taking these two weeks off (in a prime Goofy training period) was a good thing. It hasn't bothered me for well over a week. It was painful enough to take an anti-inflammatory and roll it with a frozen soda bottle. I'd hate that to rear it's ugly head in WDW.

So... where do I go from here? I'd like to put some kind of plan together for the next 4 weeks, but I need a couple of things:

1. A swift kick in the tookus.
2. Some suggestions for mileage
3. Someone to remove all temptation (cookies, cake and pie) from my life.
4. A personal life coach and trainer.

Belated Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! My trip south was wonderful! Unfortunately I've driven hundreds (and hundreds) of miles over the past two weeks and it took its toll (no pun intended).

Hi to all! I miss you! Good night!

:grouphug:

Howard

Jodi, I am wondering how Blueblew is doing...popcorn::

Howard, cookies, yes, check, cake, ahuh, check. cookies, affirmative...looks like we are on the same plan.

Sorry you haven't been able to get the miles in. I am the same, I do a little yoga here and there and maybe walk 5 or 7 miles PER WEEK, but that's it. You are a different case though, you have done it before, you can do it again!!!

Howard - mmmm.... Pie!

My advice, since you asked: Don't try to ramp up a bunch of miles. You'll only hurt yourself. Take it easy and enjoy as leisurely a pace as you need to at WDW. You'll have company no matter what pace you go. Oh, and continue to eat a little bit of pie now and again.

I feel bad for you northerners. It's been cold and windy enough the last few days down here. I even ran on the TM one time. :scared1:

Oh Howard.... Maybe you have a bit of training burnout. I had a long talk with Kristi yesterday about that very thing. After last week's mess, the LAST thing I want to do right now is hit the road. It's 23 degrees out as I type this, with wind chills in the single digits. And let me tell you how much I don't feel like getting on that TM. I wonder if its just the cold and dark that puts us in this mood. No one in their right mind would want to go out in this weather. OK, well, maybe that isn't applicable to this group. Right mind.... :lmao: I'm sorry if I'm no help but at least we can comiserate.

For anyone that missed my debacle from last weekend, I was scheduled for 18 but got hypothermia and called it a day at 14. Very, very disappointing... :sad2:

From the voice of experience... like Mike said, do NOT try to ramp up the mileage. I did that pre-MCM to recover from the hip injury, and ended up with severe PF for 26.2 (no, make that 26.6) miles. The longest 26.6 miles of my life. And I haven't run since, except for a 8K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving. I'm done. At least until the hip surgery is over, the PF is healed, and cold weather is gone. And all the cookies, cakes, and pies are eaten. So take it easy, make sure the foot is healthy, and have fun at WDW!

Jackie

Thanks Jackie and Judy!

My effort tonight:

Miles: 6.0
Time: 58:29
Pace: 9:45
Splits: 9:16, 10:02, 9:47, 9:47, 9:59, and 9:36

No lingering PF pain, I did feel a twinge during the run, but nothing to write home about.

I ran with a head lamp and signal flasher. The traffic definitely saw me coming and going. I worked up a good sweat in all those layers too.

Have a great day tomorrow!

Judy - Don't be "very, very disappointed". You still have PLENTY of time to get your big LR in. 14 is still good work and goes a long way toward getting you ready. Just be sure to get your head right before you next looong run and do it when the conditions are more conducive to success.

P.S. Don't tell anyone, but you are already physically ready for the full. An 18 or 20 miler at this point is only to convince your mind that you can actually do the marathon. Our little secret. ;)

Jackie - Sorry to hear you are having so many issues. I didn't know. I hope things turn around soon. When is hip surgery?

Howard - Nice run!

Judy, I agree with Mike, it's all good! You will be ready, in fact I would hazard a guess that the next looong run will be great! Everyone has a not-so-good longish run in every training plan. You got yours out of the way. You WILL be fine on your next one!:thumbsup2

Howard, nicely done!

Chester, how is your training coming along?

Hey BOTs,

Just popping in to say hi.:wave2:

Not much running for me since the Philly 1/2. I'm thinking of joining a gym for 3 months so I can get a few TM miles in here and there. I guess I could try Howard's approach and strap on some strobe lights to avoid the trucks on my local road at night.

Work/business has totally killed my running. I'm hoping I can stabilize some things on that front in December so that I can resume a reasonable personal life/training schedule in January.

I wish I could be in WDW for the races this year but I think my next race will be in beautiful Wilmington, DE in March 2011.

Lou

Hi Jodi!

No time for running for me for a couple of days.

Kathy went down to Randleman, NC to do the Run for Victory half marathon tomorrow AM. She drove the course today and said lotsa hills, country roads, and crazy dogs. Should be fun!

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words and support. I think this Full will be done out of fear of being swept more than anything else. That's motivation for ya! :thumbsup2

Good luck to Kathy this morning!!!

OK, kids, I'm off to the Wilderness Lodge for a week. Charlie is staying home taking care of everyone so I'll be lose at WDW! How much trouble can I get into anyway??? :lmao:

Judy - Wait, you're going by YOURSELF? And you didn't invite me or any of the other girls on here? Mike would LOVE to have gone. ;)

So does that mean you're doing a long run down there? Have fun!!

Mikey - I didn't know you were still running. I thought you quit all that & had taken up power eating. Much more enjoyable. :thumbsup2 The best training advice I ever got came from you back in '07 while I was attempting to train for Goofy. I was looking for some direction & asked for advice from those who had done it before. You said something like "I don't train any different for Goofy...how do you train for torture?" Words I live by now...and it turned out you were right!

Hey to everyone else. Man this thread is beat.

That was funny!

Jodi - You shouldn't admit that I gave you any good advice. I have the resident buffoon image to uphold you know.

Lou~ I'll probably see you there! I am trying to talk Charlie P. into running it too. Oh yeah... what happened to the BOT water image I stole off of you? All I have is an X now.

Kathy~ Great job with your half over the weekend. The conditions and course didn't sound too inviting although the company sure did.

I got out for what I'm terming a "LR" on Saturday in the cold. The car windows frosted over, grass permafrosted, etc. Nice and crisp! :sad2:

Miles: 10.0
Time: 1:41:21
Pace: 10:08

I'll more than likely run again at night this week as long as it's not raining.

Judy~ Have a great time in Walt Disney World! Send me a postcard!

Have a great day everyone!

Chester, how is your training coming along?

Colleen
Training is going as scheduled. But, I'm still 10 lbs heavy and about a minute and a half per mile slower. Must be the affect on not going to the gym in almost a year. My second 20 miler is scheduled for Sunday but we'll be at Fort Wilderness so it will get pushed to Monday.

OK, kids, I'm off to the Wilderness Lodge for a week. Charlie is staying home taking care of everyone so I'll be lose at WDW! How much trouble can I get into anyway??? :lmao:

Judy
We are checking in to Fort Wilderness on Friday afternoon and hitting Mickey's very Merry Christmas Party that night and doing a sleigh ride through Fort Wilderness on Saturday night. We'll be there through Sunday. When are you heading back north?
