Does anyone else worry about the weather during free dining?

We went last year for free dining and I read on the boards that it was pouring the entire time before my trip. But then we got there and it was sunny the entire week, except for rain one day at AK. Then the day after we left, hurricane Ike came!!:scared1: So we literally chose the EXACT perfect week to go.
..Now what would be the chances that I would choose the 'perfect' week again this year? I didn't want to try, so I've booked to go in the summer instead...but still pondering about free dining...hmm.

The free dining was awesome, don't get me wrong, but its the rain and hurricanes that scare me around those months. Does the really bad weather (hurricanes) actually reach disney world or does it stay on the out skirts of Florida?

TIA!

Last year I remember a ton of worried posters on the boards. But that was because activity in the Atlantic really did start to pick up.I went in Sept around the time most people were stressing , and the only thing that even remotely worried me was getting there without delay:) If you are the type person that really stresses over the weather, particularly hurricaines, than free dining isn't the time of year to visit. That is why Disney has the free dining promotion. The weather did reach central Fl.But it is generally the outer bands of the storms, which can make for heavy rain and wind.

if you are that worried about the weather, perhaps you should consider alternative vacation destinations? there is a link to the complete history of weather in my sig. It is central florida, the odds are it will rain while you are there.

I think that's kind of the point of offering the free dining - the potential for bad weather due to hurricane season keeps people away. Pretty smart marketing.

I understand your worries but if you can go, go. I mean, there's potential for bad weather any time you go anywhere. You know?

We've been going to WDW in September (a major hurricane month) since 1975and only once has a hurricane threatened our trip. And that was when a hurricane hit PENNSYLVANIA, not Florida!!! We lost a couple of hours off our leaving time and that was about it.
My suggestion is the same as summermac--don't worry a lot about it and just GO!!

We were there at the end of Sept last year and it didn't rain one time.

It is very rare for a hurricane to hit WDW. Yes it can happen. Now with that said where do the people of florida who are on the coast go to evacuate when a hurricane is coming. Why they go to WDW. :wizard:

You can change a lot about your trip but the one thing you absolutely cannot change is the weather. There are still tons of things to do at Disney World in the rain so it's just a minor glitch to us if it does rain during any of our trips. Now, if we were going hiking or something like that, I would concern myself with the weather. But Disney World? Put on some rain gear and go.

Free dining came into being the year after a particularly bad season, where central Florida was hit with several hurricanes. After all the news coverage of that, bookings must have been way down, so free dining was born.

That's the tradeoff: you get a nice discount, but have to travel during a time of year when hurricanes are a possibility.

But, the good news is that hurricanes are not common, Orlando can go a year or more without being significantly impacted.

FREE DINING IS THE HURRICANE SPECIAL.

Me personally would not go in September, not because of hurricanes, but because it is still so dang hot and humid. I am from Houston so worrying about hurricanes is a June - November issue for me.

I would say so, have fun, and if the outer bands of a hurricane approach, then that is a great opportunity to have some down time in the room with the fam playing games, etc. It won't last long anyways.

We've gone the end of Aug/beg. of Sept. the last two years, and are going again this year during that time because it works well in our schedules as well as great discounts. Yes we keep an eye on the weather, last year TS Faye missed us by a couple days. Even without TS or hurricane anywhere near the forecast, the chances of an afternoon rain shower randomly appearing are pretty good. Anytime you go near a coastal region you're chances of precipitation are going to increase exponentially! And thats a chance we'll take!
