Back to Wonderland with a side of French Fries-New 3/15Mix up culture w/fun

Oh my goodness, that wreath, :faint:
Didn't you just want to grab it and run?

Oh I know that would have been stealing.....

I really think I need one just like it.
:goodvibes

Happy 2010 Patricia!!!

Great update!!! All that snow looks like a lot of fun to play in! The pics of Emily and David are too cute!

Peter Pan sounds like a lot of fun! We have the 2003 version, also, and it's my favorite. I always cry like a baby because of all the undertones about growing up, but Jason Isaacs does make it better. ;) Have you read the series by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson that are prequels to Peter Pan? They are so cute! The first one is called Peter and the Starcatchers, and they just came out with a fourth one Peter and the Sword of Mercy. Connor loves them, and I am waiting on him to finish the newest one which he got for Christmas.

I want to go to the Brandywine River Museum! An Alice in Wonderland exhibit and dollhouses??? I would be in heaven!

Happy New Year Patricia!

Lovely update! I love the three generations picture! :goodvibes

Happy New Year!! Glad that you are open again!
I would like a cranberry bog too....looks yummy and with cranberry I am sure it is good for you too ;)
Like Alice's bag...the flag matches the mirrors on my Mini. :thumbsup2
Loved the wreath....I am with you on getting one done by next Christmas. Maybe we could add two pieces a month...should be done by December

Great updates! I'm glad you are open for business again!

Yo! West Coast here!

I'm with you on the forced part. I just felt like it was an excuse for people to go out and get REALLY drunk and while I've been known to overdo it myself, I don't need a holiday to tell me when to drink..:rolleyes1;)

I, too, like the actual New Years Day--Rose Parade, crisp clear weather....

I think we're going shopping tomorrow.

Happy New Year to you too....

My trip's coming up soon.

I completely agree! We just finished up the Rose parade, sourdough french toast and are going to laungh into some TSM on the Wii and then the Rose bowl and chili! I  New years day!

Crisp and clear? Al Roker was saying it was 80 at points, those poor band members! The floats this year were AMAZING!

We send the kids to bed around 11 lol. And we were not far behind!

Oh my goodness, that wreath, :faint:
Didn't you just want to grab it and run?

That wreath is adorable! Of course I could see a whole Alice tree!

Happy 2010 Patricia!!!

Wonderful Holiday update...:thumbsup2

thanks for sharing your fun and pictures...BTW how is your book room?

looking forward to when your Paris and WDW planning resumes.

What a wonderful NYE update!

I do love the 2003 version of Peter Pan. I love the guy who plays Capt Hook and Mr. Darling. Jason Issacs I think his name is. He plays a lovely villain in The Patriot with Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger.

Love the pictures from the museum. It looks like something that I would really enjoy. I need to start making a list of all of these things!

Hey LL...:wave2:

yes- Jason Issacs is his name (he was the villainy British general in Patriot) and that version of PP is the best imho (Disney version is charming also...:goodvibes) There is a lot of lovely language in the actual Barrie book as well...I got it for Christmas to complement my Alice on CD read by Jim Dale...PP is read by Jim Dale as well...:goodvibes

I think that Jason Issacs is lovely...in fact I think I have a bit of a bad boy crush on him...:rolleyes1...I mean you have to feel for Capt. Hook a bit...especially when he's so hmmm...attractive and well Lucius Malfoy could be turned to the good side-right?...I do love to watch him on the screen even when he's being bad...:rolleyes1

Yes you would love the BRM...if you do come to Philadelphia...you could have your own personal tour guide...:goodvibes

Happy New Year Triple P!!! I hope the New Year finds you with health, happiness and love!!!

Great update!

The kids look like they're having a blast in the snow! It was so much fun  I think it's supposed to snow all weekend here!!

I can't believe you found a newt!! DS7 would have wanted to keep it as a pet too! We had a hermit crab he found on the beach in bucket for 3 weeks this summer until we convinced him it needed to go back to the beach so he could find a new shell to live in!

Your trip to the theatre and museum look lovely!

The snow was a blast...I wouldn't mind some more...how about a snow day next week...:lmao:

I can't believe we found a newt either......we noticed the cat and dog both staring at something and fortunately for Newty we got there before they got too involved...and believe me David was already to keep him...I'm just not sure I was...(not sure what kind of care they need...:confused3) Em had Hermit crabs in the past and we umm didn't have alot of luck with them...:rolleyes1

Oh my goodness, that wreath, :faint:
Didn't you just want to grab it and run?

I really think I need one just like it.

I like to think of myself as a fairly ethical person but if I thought I had a shot of getting that wreath out of there I think I would have had a serious ethical dilemma on my hands...;)

Happy 2010 Patricia!!!

Snow is almost always a good thing...:goodvibes

I cry too!...It is extremely deep-there is so much there about growing up...what you give up...what you gain,...the bittersweetness of starting to have those feelings about the opposite sex and not entirely understanding what to do with them...the contrast set up between Hook and Mr. Darling, the kiss left unclaimed on the side of Mrs. Darling's mouth...

No- I haven't read the Barry/Pearson books...but I see them in my near future...;) I will check them out and I'm sure they'll be fun to read with David in a bit...

You would love the Brandywine...I swear though the guard was staring at me a bit suspiciously...I think my Alice "love" was showing and he was afraid for the treasures under his care...;)

Happy New Year Patricia!

Lovely update! I love the three generations picture! :goodvibes

Hey Floss...:wave2: Happy New Year right back at you...:goodvibes

That is my FIL-he and my MIL will be coming for Em's B-day...

Happy New Year!! Glad that you are open again!

Yes...It is lovely to be open...;)

Cranberry is so full of antioxidants and that was exactly what I was thinking when I ordered that drink...;)

YOU HAVE A MINI?...:worship: Was that in your TR-I couldn't have missed that... I want a mini...I'm thinking about the little wagon...hmmm..what is that called...right now I have a Jeep but I'm thinking that Emily might get that when she can drive-which is only in a year not even...:rolleyes1

You know ...the more I think about it...the more I'm thinking about trying to make some of those Alice figures...I mean how hard could it be...:rolleyes1...well at least I'll look into it...:rolleyes1

Great updates! I'm glad you are open for business again!

yes it was a shock to my system when I couldn't find my PTR...:eek:I'm happy it's back...:goodvibes

I completely agree! We just finished up the Rose parade, sourdough french toast and are going to laungh into some TSM on the Wii and then the Rose bowl and chili! I  New years day!

I always thought the Rose parade looked so pretty...French toast...Wii...Chili...sounds nice...:goodvibes

Your 11 is my 2...and I'm sure I was having some serious REM sleep at that point...

That wreath is adorable! Of course I could see a whole Alice tree!

Oh I can definitely see the Alice tree...I'm just not sure if I'm up to the task of making all the ornaments...:lmao:now a wreath...just maybe...

I need to read those, Evan has the first one and I think Eric would like them too!

and the book enabling continues...:lmao:...isn't it nice somethings remain the same?

Wonderful Holiday update...:thumbsup2

thanks for sharing your fun and pictures...BTW how is your book room?

J~

Funny you should ask...the books are being itemized in the garage by Eric for the homeowner's insurance...we had a team in on Tuesday and they basically took the whole room apart...part of ceiling...bookcases, rugs up...we have industrial fans and humidifiers in there to dry it all out and the guys are coming back on Monday to get them and we'll then be talking to the contractors to rebuild...should be done by the end of January...

Also funny you should mention Paris because today we had our first French Friday...(I'm going to post a bit w/ photos tomorrow...feeling a bit queezy tonight...)...We watched Ratatouille, had baguettes with lunch and I read a cute kid's book...Monsieur Saguette's Baguette...

I realized including today we only have 12 French Fridays to go...That trip will be here before I realize...

I really do feel like the White Rabbit...I'm late, I'm late for a very important PLANNING date...eeeekkkk....:scared1:

Your night in sounds lovely! Now that we have kids New Years Eve is a night in for us as well.

We had baked nacho grande for dinner and then family movie night. Hannah got "The Black Cauldron" DVD for Christmas so that's what we watched. Clay fell asleep  so it was just me and the girls watching. I'd never seen it before...very strange movie. We watched Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve and saw the ball drop. Hannah declared that she wants to go to New York.

I have to second Jackie on the Dave Barry/Ridley Pearson books. I've been reading those to Hannah at bedtime. We're currently reading "Peter and the Secret of Rundoon". I've already bought the newst book and we'll start that when we're done with the current book.

I spent a few hours in Books-A-Million today. It was sheer heaven! I walked out with three new books: 1) An Ice Cold Grave by Charlaine Harris (I've really been getting in to her books lately!); 2) Mousejunkies by Bill Burke and 3) Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street by Michael Davis. Can't wait to start reading them!

Happy New Year to you and your family! :goodvibes

Hey great update! Loved reading about the snow that we missed!!!! :rotfl: Fun things at your house, including the French night! :thumbsup2 I love children's theater, and that production of Peter Pan sounds wonderful!!

Great NY EVE Update Patricia! I love all the pictures, especially the 3 generations! Wasn't that snow crazy? It's hard to believe we had so much and now its gone.

Your dog is a little cuties, even if he is a little bad boy! (OK I am having a hard time posting this smilie after reading dwan's TR tonight! :rolleyes1)

I'm a little late - but HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I loved your last update and I'm looking forward to the first French Friday!

COUNTING DOWN BACKWARDS to Paris & DLP...FRENCH FRIDAY NUMBER 12

Well now that the holidays are waning I have to face an undesputable truth...

I have to plan our trip to Paris and DLP-where we will be headed in just about

80 days...

Which in some ways sounds like alot of time...

but as most good Disers actually know- really isn't...:confused3

(and then-there is also the small matter of figuring out what ADRs I want for Alice's 16th birthday in October...since I will be needing to make those just as soon...or a week or so, after we come back from Paris...)

I'm not sure what happened...I think that before Thanksgiving I felt I still had a lot of time but then the Holidays happened and well here I am...:rolleyes1

But I am intelligent, capable and up to this very pleasurable task...right? well I think I am...at least I hope so...( and thank goodness I have had the great fortune of having been to Paris a couple of times...with Hatter, once even with Alice-she was 8-but never with Rabbit and I really want to plan a trip that will appeal to everyone and provide special memories for everyone as well...)

So I don't need to worry-I should enjoy the planning since that is half the fun...

Hmmm....I do think I really need to get those passport photos taken on Monday...(just mine-everyone else has a perfectly updated passport but mine is about to expire...(somewhere in Germany I think that Flossbolna is shuddering and doesn't know why...right Nodnol...;)

Well in the spirit of inspiration...We did have our First French Family Friday yesterday...(It was fairly low key- but I really wanted start since there are only 12 (including yesterday) Fridays to Frenchify before we go...

First we had our film...

Wait for it...

ratatouille.jpg

Yes...Ratatouille...In addition to being a great story and quite cute it really has some lovely albeit animated scenes of Paris and does a nice job with the inner workings of a French kitchen

(and of course we met him last summer at Chefs de France...for a movie star...he was quite accessible...)

100_0838.jpg

Then we had a French Food...

baguette.jpg

The baguette is simple but emblematic of French food...(and yes -ok it was quick....but it tied in quite nicely to our book)

Monsieur Saguette's Baguette....

515l0CbnDtL_SS500_.jpg

This is a really sweet, very basic story...Monsieur realizes he wants a baguette to go with his soup and after he goes out and gets it-he realizes the myriad uses it has...he saves a kitten out of a tree by allowing it to climb down his baguette, he can lead a marching band with it..., -he breaks up a robbery by poking the robber with it from behind....you get the idea. It was very cute and I bought two so that Rabbit and I could have a little duel...(I don't advocate playing with your food normally... but it was a lot of fun to duel with a baguette...)

And the piece de resistance...My Paris/DLP countdown/shrine/inspiration...

100_1451.jpg

100_1453.jpg

100_1454.jpg

I have to work it around a bit till I'm satisfied with it-but it has the requisite count down chain, some Children's books that feature Paris, some language tapes and other goodies...and I'm happy that is at least up...:goodvibes

(I also have a brass Eiffel tower cookie cutter there...if anyone has a really good cut outs recipe...either sugar or ginger bread...I'd love to have it...I have some great cookie recipes but no cut outs that I've been really happy with...)

ALTHOUGH...

there is one very serious and mysterious issue...

FRENCH MINNIE IS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND...(and for those of you who may have followed my previous trip reports-you know this is not a good thing at all...not at all...:sad2:)

French Minnie where are you???

100_0833.jpg

& that roguish Jedi Mickey is also missing...I'm thinking they are off together...hmmmm....there had better be some explaining very soon...:headache:

Sounds like your first French Friday was a big success! :thumbsup2 You are so creative... I can't wait to hear about the next 11!

Hey! LOVE the French Friday idea!!! SO fun! And the Shrine de Francais -- also tres jolie.. :lovestruc And you are right. 80 odd days is going to fly by. January and February ALWAYS fly...

Here is my cookie recipe. I make them at Christmas and for Valentines Day! They are really simple and taste great. It is my Grandmother's....

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
dash of vanilla OR lemon extract OR neither....

3 cups flour
1/2 t B powder
1/2 t B soda
1/2 t Salt

Cream the first four ingredients, then blend the dry together, and mix all, a cup at a time.... have extra flour for rolling.

Chill dough, about 3 hrs or more -- I make it a few days ahead of time and then I have it. We have granite countertops so it works well for rolling these out, the dough can be sticky the first go at it, but with extra flour no problems...
Temp 380 max (if you have a hot oven go with 375) 5 - 7 min.

I use parchment paper so the bottoms stay white not brown. I don't like my sugar cookies to brown, so I watch these like a hawk. Once out of the oven I let them sit an additional minute so they do bake a little longer in a way, and then frost the next day.

:goodvibes

Your night in sounds lovely! Now that we have kids New Years Eve is a night in for us as well.

We had baked nacho grande for dinner and then family movie night. Hannah got "The Black Cauldron" DVD for Christmas so that's what we watched. Happy New Year to you and your family! :goodvibes

Ooo...I can't even begin to imagine the wonder that is something called "Books-A-Million"...:cloud9:

I am definitely checking out the Dave Barry/Ridley Pearson books! (I'm just going to try to use my library card a little more and make my Amazon purchases a little more judiciously...;)

Funny how that New Year's Eve in happens more when you have children isn't it? Funny thing is I really don't mind...:goodvibes

Baked Nachos Grande sounds good...I have to see the Black Cauldron...I just watched the Sword and the Stone with David for the first time...:wizard:

Hey great update! Loved reading about the snow that we missed!!!! :rotfl: Fun things at your house, including the French night! :thumbsup2 I love children's theater, and that production of Peter Pan sounds wonderful!!

Yes the snow was a bit of a consolation that I wasn't at Disney...:rotfl: at least it was pretty and festive...

I love theatre and children's theatre is right up there...because when it's good...it just appeals on so many levels...:goodvibes...my children take a lot of great classes there too...Rabbit's been taking 1/2 workshops and Alice is registered for (ironically) an Alice in Wonderland costume making workshop over 8 weeks and a half day Romeo and Juliet workshop...(this theatre...the Arden...is actually more know for their adult productions but they alway do two great kid's productions each year and half fabulous classes...:thumbsup2

:rolleyes1)

Hey ME...:wave2:Yes I really like that photo of DS, DH and DFIL myself...:)...I have one of Alice, myself and my mother in law...but I didn't like the way I looked in it so I didn't post it...writer's perogative...:lmao:

Oh Macintosh has "cute" in bulk...I think that is his saving grace...but he is a naughty little boy...I don't think he means to be...he just doesn't seem to know how to stay out of trouble...:confused3

Shhhhhhh, Mary Ellen, don't tell on me!

So just was it you were up to Anita...hmmm....:rolleyes1

Book enabling :thumbsup2

UGH on the insurance itimizationPainful...:sad2:

12 french Fridays? it's just around the corner!!!!!!!!! I know...:eek:I think I just slapped myself out of denial yesterday...
