Disnaholic, you may ask that it be noted on your reservation, but I agree with Safetymom. If you really want something, please plan it yourself (that way it will happen and you won't be disappointed). I have planned many special celebrations on my WDW trips (anniversaries, birthdays, reunions, etc.). My family & guests have always had the best time with the things that were planned. I'm actually in the process of planning a special event for my upcoming trip, too (I won't leave it to chance).
I took the following directly from the WDW website:

Q. Is there anything special I can plan for a birthday or special occasion?
A. A variety of activities are available at our Resort to help make birthdays more special and memorable. For instance, your family may wish to dine with the Disney characters at one of our many character breakfasts, lunches, or dinners. Call (407) WDW-DINE (939-3463) to find out more about how to create a memorable celebration for your birthday or special occasion.

By the way, happy birthday to your child. And enjoy the AKL.
