Avatar land coming to Animal Kingdom!!

I am shocked at how many people think this is a bad idea. I love it. So excited. Well maybe Pandora wont be crowded and that makes the lines shorter for me and my family. Disney always does things awsome in my book and we realy enjoy it.:goodvibes

While I do love this Avatar idea it would be just fine with me if they did "Narnia it" so then they could go knock on Peter Jackson's door.

Peter Jackson didn't have anything to do with the Narnia movies. Although, I'm sure he would've done a fantastic job if he had. :goodvibes

The poster meant by "narnia-ing it" that Disney should can the project (like they finally did to the lame-o Narnia exhibit at DHS) and then go ask Peter JAckson for Lord of the Rings.

Wouldn't ask Peter Jackson... he doesn't own the rights.

I think a lot of the negative comments are coming from the older members. People who grew up with star wars. The best thing about star wars is the FamilyGuy star wars.

People born in the 80's/90's and later are way more into Avatar than they are Star wars.

You see huge crowds at Star Wars days and those definitely include kids and teens. You also see teens on their own and plenty of young couples. My own teen definitely likes Star Wars. I don't think that you can categorize people so easily.

A big difference between Star Wars: A New Hope and Avatar was the great characters too. I've been defending Avatar but in no way does it have the appealing cast that A New Hope did.

I told my two daughters today about the new land coming to AK.

The 14 year old loved the idea and said she can't wait for it.

My 11 year old thought it was a terrible idea and said, "I'll probably never set foot in there".

Sort of like the Dis responses.

Going to chime in again. I still don't like Avatar, weak story. Characters forgettable...poor acting? Maybe that's why they're so forgettable.
But...gorgeous world. Maybe they'll just use the world and ignore the plotline with the blue cat people...

That's what i've been saying they'll likely do since the beginning. There is just no way you could build an entire land around the narrative of a movie.

Hell... even WWoHP didn't build their land.... or even their ride... off the narrative of a single movie or book. Instead they used the world created within the books and films to create their own adventure.

If I sat down and wrote a list of 500 ideas for a new land at Animal Kingdom, Avatar wouldn't have been on it. :confused3 Avatar? Really?:confused3

DITTO!! WHY Avatar?? That movie was so WEIRD and boring. My son has watched it 3-4 times and I've TRIED. Just can't get into it. About 15 mins into it... I'm out.
I doubt I would even go into that area of the park either. And taking little ones into something filled with HALF NAKED BLUE PEOPLE/ALIENS!? that look like this ~ ~ NOT happening.
That movie does not even fit the theme of A-N-I-M-A-L KINGDOM!!! :confused3
I don't think WALT would approve.....they SERIOUSLY NEED to rethink that one.......geeeez that's a big mistake

This author is a complete idiot and a pathetic Potter fanboy.

Let's just take the first few paragraphs:

>>>>I saw it once, my daughter saw it twice, and neither of us could name a Na'vi.<<<<<

Ummm, the main character is Jake Sully. I guess if you are an ignoramous that could be diffcult to remember. The main female is Nytiri. Again, if you can't remember that after a 3 hour movie you are a blithering fool that should not be listened to.

Next bit of stupidity:

>>>We couldn't even tell you if any of the important ones died in that final battle with the evil white capitalists, even though we both darn near cried when Harry held a fatally wounded Dobby.<<<

Ok, well, the main Na'vi warrior and Jake's rival dies in SLOW MOTION after leaping off his bird onto an enemy character and taking down 3 or 4 soldiers because he dies. I suppose this thickheaded numbskull was too busy fantasizing about Hermione to notice this. Or maybe he was still tear-filled from Dobby's death and couldn't see. What a loser. His fanboy mentality begins to make this article not worth reading.

>>>Avatar has no memorable heroes, no memorable villains, no memorable lines, no memorable twists, not even a memorable musical riff.<<<

Hero= Jake Sully. You have to be a dolt to miss this.

Villian= Quaritch - you know...the jarhead boss marine who survived countless near death experiences and almost single handedly wiped out a civilization. Only a blithering buffoon would miss this.

Memorable lines - I guess this twit needs an "I'll be back" to enjoy a movie

Twists - look...it ain't a Alfred Hitchcock movie. What a dweeb.

At this point - less than a 3rd of the way into the article, anything else this drooling, unhinged dolt has to say is not worth reading. He should go back to his wand collection and brush up on his Quidditch rules rather than writing for a newspaper.

:)

We get it, you're a major fanboy. In 20 years most people will still think Avatar is a Japanese anime series.

And finally, here is another rant -

The idea that Disney does things in response to Universal is laughable. Worldwide, Disney Parks draw 5X as many guests as Universal (2010 figures)

And Universal Studios in Florida draws HALF the customers of.....Animal Kingdom (2009 figures). So let's assume WWOHP doubles Universal attendance in the U.S. (it opened in early 2010)...it's still just as big as ONE of Disney's smaller parks.

Universal is great (so is Sea World, so is Six Flags for the right goals)....and WWOHP is by all accounts fantastic....but these claims that Disney sits around saying "oh no what are we going to do about Universal!" and "oh boy Disney has a consolation prize and is losing out to Universal" are just nonsense.

OK, now you're just making yourself look foolish. MGM studios was built specifically in response to Universal Studios coming to Orlando. That's fact, you can even look it up if you wish. Further, both the Fantasyland expansion and this proposed Avatar addition are directly the result of the success of WWoHP.

Sorry, but I get tired of this nonsensical argument from Disney fanboys stating that Disney doesn't respond to its competition. It's laughable and demonstrably false.

I don't think it's faith in two unreleased movies. It's faith that idea of Pandora -- what we've seen what's to come -- will sustain a theme park world that can captivate people whether they've seen (and enjoyed) the films or not.

This. If Disney does this right (and I have my doubts based on how they've skimped in the past), in 15 years more people will think the land came before the movies.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread for a few days since since I first posted in it, but this caught my eye as I am finally skimming back through.

Totally agree with bolded statement. Disney definitely responds to its competition and has from the very beginning. Anyone remember Oswald? :confused3 Every time Disney is faced with heavy competition, it comes back and does better than what it is competing against. And it is for that reason alone that I know, even though I don't really care for the Avatar story, that Pandora will be fantastic!

I really liked the Avatar and even bought the blu-ray. Sure it was basically Pocahontas with a sci-fi twist but it was the world and it's creatures that sold the movie. That said and after reading many opinions I still have mixed feelings about an Avatar land coming to AK.

Pros:
- It's a whole new land at AK and will spread out crowds
- They could be bringing new attraction technology and hopefully another thrill ride
- They could be bringing the glowing scenery elements and that could keep AK open a little longer unless they decide on a completely indoor dark attraction.

Cons:
- They could have picked a better theme IMO. I'm not exactly sure how big the area is but I would have liked to have seen a South American rainforest type area or with the new Pixar movie Brave coming out a Celtic region type land with dragons and other mythological beasts.

Even though I liked the movie and my pros outweigh my cons I'm still pretty "meh" about this news. If Disney is trying to find an answer for WWoHP I would much rather see a Star Wars land at DHS than Avatar at AK

I was born in '81. I am WAY more into Star Wars than Avatar. I thought Avatar was a mediocre movie, at best. Yet I'm a member of the largest Star Wars costuming club in the world. My three siblings were born in the 90s. They, too, are way more into Star Wars. My best friend was born in 86. Another "way more into Star Wars" person. Best not to stereotype based on when someone is born. ;)

+1 :thumbsup2
Born in '85 and love Star Wars. No way you could compare the Star Wars franchise to Avatar even if the next two films turn out to be better than the first. Also some of my younger cousins born in the last decade are into Star Wars because of the Clone Wars series.

What in the world does Avatar have to do with "Animal Kingdom?" NO NO NO DISNEY PLEASE!!! So disappointed. I HATE AVATAR. I do not want to see blue people walking around Disney World.

OK...so..umm...hmm...let's see...

1. Haters - Continue to hate and please don't show up at AK when the new land debuts.

2. Lovers - Congrats on Disney stepping out of the box and satisfying both your desire to expand AK, but also your need for an immerse environment to get lost in.

3. Everyone else - Yep, a Star Wars land would have been beyond belief..but I'm looking forward to the future thinking rides/shows/restaurant that are so much missing from WDW in it's current form. Traditionalists get a HUGE expansion on Fantasyland, many others will get satisfied by an AK expansion...and in the end, I think everyone will actually be happy!!

Let's have a good weekend DIS peeps!!!
