In playing around with adjusting my own trip, I noticed something very unusual..
The Epcot area resorts are booked almost totally solid from 6/28-7/2.
At first, I attributed it to July 4th crowds -- But there is actually a good amount of availability from 7/2-7/4.
Yes, free dining likely caused increased booking during that window..... But why would it affect the Epcot area more than other resort areas?
The second free dining window (July 5th) still has plenty of availability also.

So what the heck is going on from 6/28-7/2?? There is no Epcot festival occurring around that time.
Has Disney pulled roomed out of inventory for that week? Maybe they are planning on opening the France expansion that week and are setting aside rooms for it??

My guess would be conventions/business related bookings.

Maybe. Certainly possible.

But a few reasons why I'm doubtful of that:
1 -- A business convention is usually concentrated at a single hotel, with just some overflow booking going outside.
2-- Beach Club and Yacht Club are not really the most convention friendly hotels at Disney. Other hotels are more set up for it.
3-- Weeks connected to holidays aren't usually big business convention weeks.

All that said, it certainly could be convention related....

There is a DVC Moonlight Magic at Epcot event on June 29.

YC is VERY often one of the offered hotels for conventions being held at the Swan/Dolphin. They don't meet at the YC but they do book blocks of rooms for convention guests there.

It does match the dates of a dance competition at the Dolphin, so that could be it.

I'm having the same issue with a late March reservation. I'm assuming there must be a convention going on at one or more of the EP resorts.

Sorry, not right. The YC is a big convention friendly hotel. The convention center was just expanded & updated last year. We stay at YC 3 or 4 times a year & have for many years. There is a convention going on every time we stay there. The selling points are all the other hotels, the Boardwalk entertainment & Epcot all within walking distances. We also very often see convention groups being walked into Epcot in the evening for special dinners or fireworks viewing. YC is really popular for conventions.

I’m having the same problem with the beginning of August. I do have a room booked at the YC, but the BC is totally booked and the only room category available at the YC is water view, which is what I’m booked in. I’d really like to downgrade the view or move over to the BC, but nothing is available.

There are convention centers at Boardwalk, Yacht Club, and Swan/Dolphin, and one of the draws of booking a convention in that area is that you’ve got multiple hotels within walking distance of any of the three convention centers. I used to work for a company that had meetings at S/D every few years and they’d have room blocks in BWI, S/D and YC or BC. Sometimes they’d even use meeting rooms in YC.

So yes, a good-sized convention can take up a lot of rooms at multiple resorts.

I was going to say we were at YC this past summer and there were TONS of convention folks staying there.

Of course they are. There are facilities

One bright spot about convention bookings - any rooms not booked within the group block will be released a few weeks prior, so if you are trying to modify, it doesn't hurt to keep checking!

I actually prefer YC! The full balcony is important to me.
