august 2013 codes for rental cars?

Is your rental a 9 or 10-day rental? We're picking up at 10:30am and dropping at 6pm so mine is 10 full days. That may account for *some* of the difference. (I'm using Insiders + $30 Visa coupon, too.)

Added:

It looks like the $200 is for a 9-day. If I switch from 6pm to 6pm and 8/5 - 8/14 or 8/4 - 8/13, I get the $200 price. If I move that to 8/3 - 8/12 ( my dates but 9 days) I get $266.89. So picking up on 8/3 accounts for $66 of the increase. Yikes!

Yes, that must be it, I am picking up later on 5th.

I am not seeing any movement at Tampa yet for my dates directly with the agencies, but hotwire is showing much lower rates than before for an in terminal rental. Too soon to lock in with hotwire. My rate is just a little more right now. Jealous of those better rates from MCO

...
The news is even better with Dollar. Last week, I was able to book $189 for a midsize SUV with my actual dates. Now my actual dates are showing city specials of $150 for a midsize, $166 for full. If I plug in simulated dates, its $125 and $155 respectively....

And the Dollar drops continue (even from looking earlier this morning). For my dates, the base rate for a midsize is $120.27, a drop of $30 from yesterday and for a full is $130.72, a $36 dollar drop. (and I think the drop yesterday was even bigger).

Keep in mind that my dates are early August for a week (8/4-11), so those of you later in the month might not be seeing them yet. (The good news for you is that later August the demand should drop off anyway).

Could be this is a skirmish between Dollar and Enterprise. In any event, grab onto something.

Our patience is starting to pay off...let the games begin.

(and I'd like to think Alamo is going to have to jump into the fray at some point)

Richmo, could you include what your total-total for Dollar is? I find Dollar to be the most misleading - they show a base rate and a "total" price but you don't see the real total until you select a car and the fees get added in.

OK, sorry about that (and Dollar tends to have a bigger total minus base than most). My midsize with Dollar is now $120.27 base, $178.05 total.

:cool1: I just booked the dollar deal for $178.05 for our week the beginning of August...still some hope for a bit lower! Thanks for posting!!

We are arriving MCO one day prior to checking into PORFQ. We rented a car just for convenience plus other family members are joining us at PORFQ and we wanted a car at our disposal.

Arriving MCO on 7/28.....7 days....departing MCO on 8/4.....7 day rental

Best complete rates I have from Budget are:
intermediate........$219
full size...............$232
I used a discount code from BJ's.

Any suggestions for trying something else or are these rates OK?
We'll probably use RAC back to MCO so the intermediate should do fine.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Without digging too far, the Dollar City Special for your dates is $125 base/$183 total for midsize/intermediate and $155/$218 full size. Full size isn't a huge difference, but midsize is fairly substantial.

Can you tell me what you used to get this? My rates are still so high...8/15-8/27 12 day rental.

I'm getting in the $340-$350 range for a mid-size with Dollar (City Special or 5C11M promo code) and Alamo (Insiders + $30 Visa coupon).

I thought the late August rates had come down a couple of weeks ago - but my memory isn't good enough to know whether today's rates are the same or higher.

Is that base? It seems early August is trending down - hoping mid August is next!

That is the total including all fees and taxes. I had to check to make sure everything was correct as I wasn't expecting it to be that low.

Alamo just went lower again...full size for $166.30

Thanks for posting!

I wouldn't have checked again today but for my dates with Visa $30:

Midsize: 195.56
Standard: 211.09
Fullsize: 217.58

$298.98 to $217.58 is a sweet, sweet drop for me!

(I'm not including the $7.50 Frequent Flier fee in my totals - but I'll take 600 Rapid Rewards points - worth $10 - for $7.50.)

If only National would drop.....

I check a couple of times a day, I figure it can't hurt and it doesn't take long. I will keep checking but I doubt it will go any lower. Two years ago I paid $138 for the same car, one less day, same company.

Wow - that is great! How many days? My 12 day mid August with Alamo comes in at $450. But VISA wont work for me as my rental is too long. I am thinking $400 with National KLM is the best I may get....:headache:

For 8/15 Noon to 8/27 Noon (1 week plus 5 days), I see the Visa code isn't being applied but I'm getting the following:

Standard: $351.79
Midsize: $366.35
Full: $402.52.

With Dollar (City Special):
Midsize: $344.30
Standard: $366.53
Full: $377.65

(The 5C11M Promo code is almost the same numbers - off by a penny, maybe.)

Personally, I'd go with the Alamo Standard for $352 over those other choices (for now).

I can only find a $15 VISA coupon... I have Dollar at $375 mid size and national at $401 mid size (Emerald Aisle) SO a bit better - the rates were higher a few weeks ago...

Thanks Brett - I will try again - my rental is 8/15 11 am to 8/27 5 pm...so that adds in more days...that may be the difference...
