Ashley Madison an auspicous day

After this thing leaked, a friend of mine got curious to see how the site even operated. She signed up. She's pretty much disgusted, and now sure how one could even find anyone decent on there.

They're still open for business? For some reason I just assumed they had folded.

Can you ask your friend if she knows what a "virtual gift" is on there? Somewhere in this thread someone had posted that in response to a question I had about this site. Yes, I know, the mind boggles at all the questions possible about a business like this, but of all things I'm intrigued by what in the world a virtual gift is.

Where are people having accounts that allow these passwords?

I know my work passwords (14 characters, not one you used before or even one character off from before, at least one cap, one lower case, one number, one special character and must be changed every 90 days) is on the extreme end but most websites require at least one or two of these rules.

At the register of some retail store, I think it was Famous Footwear, the cashier wanted to know if I'd like to sign up for their rewards program. Sure, why not? They wanted some ridiculous password like that like, something like 10 characters, upper and lower case letters, numbers, symbols, etc. For a freaking store rewards program????? I couldn't be bothered. No thanks. Like I was ever going to be able to remember a password like that for a place I go to maybe once a year.

Suicides and extortion cases reported. I don't know how anyone could think that this hacking is okay.

But a lot do given the awful comments posted below these stories.

Mcafee founder believes its an inside job. Probably the same as the Sony hack. Nothing is safe out there... people should just take these hack as a grain of salt. Heck, some people could have just signed up based of curiosity for all we know. its sad that it has to come to that point of people suiciding and extorting...

The list for our area (No VA) was released a couple of days ago and I just scanned part of it. It's pretty long. I recognized 4 men's names in the first couple of groups, but quit looking after my own zip code. Three of the names I recognize from work and I'm pretty sure they're all married. One name is the name of an old friend's ex-husband. What I don't know is if he had the account for the 2 or so years they were married. On the forum I found the list, one woman said her husband was on it and another one said their SIL was. Wow, not a good thing to find. And, I find it funny (and ironic) that people who can't "get" people wasting time looking at a list spend time online wasting time on forums. :-)

Wasting time is wasting time. But it does seem strange...not a waste of time, just strange that people would spend time searching for friends, relatives, and coworkers on this list. I get skimming through a list of names to see if any jump out at you, but sitting down to the computer, finding everyone you suspects email address and then searching for them seems...strange. I don't want to know what my friends are doing with regard to their sex life. But in the grand scheme of things, if someone wants to spend time researching this, have at it.

Hmm the person above made me think of one thing... How far back does the list go?

My husband has an email address he has had since high school it gets some... lets say interesting messages from time to time. Because of all the websites he signed up for when in high school before we were together.

Ok I should clarify that I meant passwords for things that had items like credit card info. My password for my "private" team for a race I'll do in a few weeks is "Password" but even if I told you the event and team name all you could do with that information is sign up for my team... So not something I was worried about protecting. The password for my account for the race is much better, because I put in a credit card to pay the race fee.

So for anyone that has only been married a few years maybe they really did join before.

As for those that say they are curious I'll admit to being somewhat curious about the site just to see what all the fuss is about. No interest in cheating on my husband but a part of me wants to know what is different about this site that makes it so about cheating vs other online dating sites.

Someone published a list for your area? Did someone go through the data and pull out certain zip codes?

It beyond sad. The hackers hurt more then they helped.

They are now saying it was an inside job.
