Good evening ladies. :goodvibes

Spent the entire afternoon sorting through piles and piles of kiddo clothes to give away to charity. Please, no "you'll assuredly get pregnant now" jokes.

Hi everyone! I got back from California late Monday night and had to do chemo yesterday, so I am finally catching up. I am in my airconditioned house and have no plans to leave until the weather breaks. I can do heat, I can do humidity but the combination is too much, especially during a chemo week :scared: But, it gives me time to catch up on the DIS!

missoutandabout, wonderful pictures!

How are you feeling? Hope you've been able to relax in the cool. (Thank you for the compliment.) :goodvibes

Now do I want to stay in a TLM room at AoA or do I want to try ASMovies or do I want to go for nostalgia and stay at All-Star Sports? There aren't a ton of choices for Values, but it's going to be a hard choice! I hope I get a PIN and maybe I could upgrade to a Moderate!

Can I put in a vote for AoA? Only because we've booked there and no other reason. I'm willing it to be good. :thumbsup2

Miss sad to say I never read the book Wicked so a can't compare it to the stage play .... maybe I should put it on my summer reading list? As a child I did read the entire Oz series ... not many people even know that there were books after the Wizard of Oz. My grandmother, the English teacher, made sure that I knew about them.

Oh, if there's room on your reading list, I'd highly recommend it. I wasn't sure what to expect going in -- other than the obvious bits -- but I quite enjoyed it.

Plan is to see Wicked this summer in NYC. Never read the book, should though.

You and GG have me wanting to see this now! You'll have to give us your review. :goodvibes

I changed my reservation from CSR to WL!!!!! So excited to stay at the Lodge for our Christmas trip. I booked standard view, hung up and thought hmmm a courtyard view would be nice.

This is excellent! :goodvibes Always wanted to see WL at Christmas.

If I could choose I'd do IoA over DHS, will your DD do roller coasters? Many more thrill rides at IoA. Maybe a night at US hotel (for the express pass) before AoA...Doubt the crowds would be too bad though...

She's only done BTMRR but claims she wants to do Space Mountain this time around in September. At IoA, it seems quite a few of the bigger rides she'd not be tall enough for (roughly 46" at the moment). I suppose the Seussland bit is good for the kiddos, too?

We did it without express pass ...

FYI ... FJ is not an express pass ride ... although there are many other thrill rides that are... You would gain early entrance staying onsite.. But as Pas says, in Sept the crowds shouldn't be that bad. Can you do IoA on a weekday... would help more with any potential crowds.

I'm trying to confuse everyone with my two trips! The September trip'll just be Disney. The January one is the potential IoA one. Hmmm. Wondering how horrendous Universal will be the first week of January. It would probably be on the 3rd of January if we went. I'm thinking nightmare crowds! :scared1:

Don't know how my glasses walked away ... one minute they were there , then poof! Luckily I have my old pair but they are not progressive lenses ... been using my prescription sunglasses but it makes it hard to see at night! My eyesight is not terribly bad but legally need them to drive. Kept hoping they would show up ... who knows? i could have accidentally thrown them out!

Going for new specs this week ... I was due for a new pair anyway (the glass is half full view)

New glasses are as exciting as, if not more so, than getting a new pair of shoes. :woohoo:

Sorry your internet is bear-y slow .... (ok, bad I know!)

:rotfl: In my mind, I heard a rimshot when I read this.

:thumbsup2 And you can bet I'm trying that King Cupcake in August ... it sounds a little quirky but that makes it fit right at POP!! :rotfl2: Chocolate, peanut butter, banana custard and candied bacon?? Yum ....No counting carbs for this RCer!

Is this cupcake real or legend? I must, nay, REQUIRE one of these delicacies. I can't change from AoA now. "Walking over to Pop for cupcake goodness" has already been added to January's itinerary.

AKL is amazing! I just know Heather will love it! She is a MK resort gal, so I look forward to her take on the transportation. When we went we did resort fun, no parks. So much to do and see...:scratchin

I'm hoping to try it out that we do it your way: no parks. Sounds like a lot of fun. Scratchin' the chin, eh? popcorn::

... (we were at AKL ... oh, should I not bring that up??)

I'm telling myself to ignore all of this AKL stuff... and here you lot are posting gorgeous pictures and talking about how wonderful it is! RC Temptresses! :rotfl2:

Hello All!!:wave2:

I briefly scanned the recent pages...y'all have been busy chatting today:thumbsup2

We made it safe and sound...arrived a little before noon. Check in was GREAT! There was a CM to greet us and take us directly to the lounge...by the way, we did online checkin...super friendly and answered all questions. Our room wasn't ready, but not a big deal. We had lunch ressies at TRex at 1:30. After parking at DTD, AKL text me to tell me the room was ready. Perfect view!!! Lots of animals to look at...kids are going crazy...all is well:thumbsup2

Food was really good in lounge...got there around 5ish...more details to come;) Too bad it's raining, but any rainy day at Disney is better than a sunny day at home:goodvibes

By the way...WiFi is complimentary. I must have missed that somewhere when reading about AKL...maybe it's something new.

Will hopefully get some pics for y'all!

Talk to you later!
Heather

Ooooooh! How exciting. Thanks for letting us know the first bits... popcorn::

Good evening ladies. :goodvibes

Can I put in a vote for AoA? Only because we've booked there and no other reason. I'm willing it to be good. :thumbsup2

I'm really leaning towards AoA. I want to try out something super new and my only option is TLM because those are the only standard rooms there. BUT! I love the idea of ASMo. It seems like it would be a lot of fun. I'm going to go back and forth between the two at least.

DBF and I went ring "browsing", as he liked to call it, this evening. I found a few rings that I really liked, but there was one that I absolutely loved! It made me smile so much. Even the person who was showing me rings noticed that my smile was getting bigger and bigger after seeing each ring. It is absolutely beautiful! :lovestruc

I told DBF I wouldn't show the ring to everyone, but you ladies are my family and I just have to show you the ring I'm in love with! I am trying to send the image to my computer so I will post it as soon as I can!

I want to change the jewels so they aren't diamonds. I'm looking at aquamarine and blue topaz gemstones. That should also bring down the price. :goodvibes I hope DBF gets it! I want it so bad!

....Excuses for not posting as much lately - DD is off of school now and then yesterday, we had a little incident just down the street from our house:

Untitled-2.jpg
IMG_0490-1.jpg

After having a lovely conversation with Janet, I decided to mow the lawn. It was already 95 out, so I actually thought about doing it another day, but my lack of judgement actually proved useful. As I was sweeping the sidewalk, I saw brown smoke coming out of a pipe on the roof of a house just down the street. I ran to my cell and called 911 and much to my surprise learned that I was the first to call about the fire. Luckily, no one was injured, but as you can see, it could have been much worse. The firefighters were there for over 3 hours.

Now I'm going to go into my pedantic mode...

PLEASE CHECK YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS TODAY!!!! Stop posting for a moment (you need a break anyway) and do it now before you start changing resorts or posting a new ticker. Please make sure they are all in working order and that you have at least one on every level of your house - thank you:grouphug:

Kook, sorry meant to reply to this much sooner!! Middle school indeed has flown by!

My Kidani thoughts ...
You're so sweet to have gone way back in the resort changing time machine and found my post to you. I love your photos and review. As I mentioned to you, I'm still on the fence about Kidani. If they could only move Kidani to the Epcot or MK resorts area, that would be perfect!

BTW, I did a little research per our conversation, and you were right that they do offer DVC villas (Studio and one bedroom) at Jambo with CL access. Jambo/AKL is the only DVC which has this option. Now, if they only had two bathrooms like Kidani...

:surfweb:

KOOK, HAPPY SUMMER! Any changes to the trip while I was away?
In honor of your absence, no actual changes were made. I showed restraint, but now that you're "back," I might be throwing restraint right out the resort changing window.

You are so good to have kept your promise to the Dr. to start back up with your treatment when you returned - you can do this!!! Don't forget your iPad so you can follow along with the DIS while you're getting better.

You can book via phone 499 days in advance, but you book the highest price and the price will adjust when the new rates come out. The new rates should come out around the end of July or early August. I want to book my January trip right now, but since my parents are paying for it, I'll wait 'til the new rates come out to book. :hyper:
Hi! Just wanted to mention that I, too used to think that before the new rates came out they would just quote the highest rate, but someone posted recently that they called and were instead quoted the current June 2012 rate for their 2013 dates.

Now I feel like an idiot because I can't remember what thread I read that the 2013 rack rates are out .... I need to just stay on "our" threads! I think that I probably saw it on the January 2013 discount/code thread. Maybe I was just spreading a rumor???? Sorry .....
You're not an idiot! A little grumpy maybe, but not an idiot. Was it the WL thread? CuteAsMinnie reported she booked at the 2013 rate HERE.

I changed my reservation from CSR to WL!!!!! So excited to stay at the Lodge for our Christmas trip. :santa: :cheer2::cool1::banana: I booked standard view, hung up and thought hmmm a courtyard view would be nice. :rotfl2:
I knew you belonged here and I apologize for not welcoming you sooner. So when are you booking a CV?!

"More details to come"? Mmm... I am intrigued, but the popcorn smilie is now a ?, so pretend it's there and that I'm patiently awaiting your update...

Hope my friends here can help me with this quiestion. Someone on the WL thread mentioned that they had a disabled veteran discount. Now I've heard of an active and retired military discount but nothing for disabled vets. Anyone here know anything about this???? :confused3

Hi GG,

Military Disney Tips Blog covered this topic recently. Steve explains the differences in eligibility. Hope this is helpful. :goodvibes

http://www.militarydisneytips.com/b...unts-a-confusing-topic-for-disabled-veterans/
Great minds... this morning I posted the same link on the WL thread. Was/is your DH in the military, too Gwynne? I hope you have a great day and all our great resort changers!!!

OMG!!! Do they know how the fire started?? Good job seeing it and calling. They must be so thankful to you. Scary.

OMG!!! Do they know how the fire started?? Good job seeing it and calling. They must be so thankful to you. Scary.
It started in the attic, but no official cause yet, but speculation is that it was electrical. This is just pure speculation, but perhaps it was a faulty attic fan? Again, I'm only making a guess. It was scary to watch because once the smoke was visible, it progressed very quickly and there was nothing you could do but watch.

Wow! That fire is crazy! That poor family.

Glad you were there to call 911 and no one got hurt!

I booked standard view, hung up and thought hmmm a courtyard view would be nice.
CY view would be nice BUT it's te lobby you'll be looking at ! WL!!!! Perfecto! Glad you switched...and super glad you came back to let us know!!!!

Sounds like there might be quite a few RCers making the trip to WDW in January! Almost time for ADRs!
 ADRs...so weird, first day of summer break here...
I talked to my mom and she said I would have to stay at a Value unless I get a PIN that would make a Mod about the same as a Value. After pricing them out, it would still be around $240 more to stay at a Mod if the PIN from this year is the same for next year. It's about $10 more a night to stay at AoA versus the AS Resorts which isn't that bad so I will have to decide between the Values.

I know I don't want to stay at POP, (Sorry Janet!) so that brings it down to 4 resorts. Mom thinks I'm being ridiculous when I said that it's going to be a hard decision. She just doesn't understand.

Does anyone have any Free Disney apps they recommend? I downloaded the Touring Plans Line App and this Disney Park app, but I don't know if there are any other good apps out there that I should download.
OK, I know it's not your 1st choice......BUT! Here's my 2 cents...POP ROCKS!!! Walk to AoA, great food court! Possible Ilumination views..you can stroll along a lake.

Disney Icons? How about Mickey, Mr & Mrs Potato Head, Goofy....like Lady & the tramp. Hannah, I don't mean to force Pop on ya, but I've stayed All Stars before, and Pop is the best! I am not a fan of the moderates though..too big, I don't like having an internal bus. So again JMHO, and we understand what a hard choice it it

Yes, it must take some $$ to make chocolate, as the Hershey hotel prices are not very "sweet"!! :rotfl2: Stay with us ... and drive 96 miles back and forth ... I have 2 couches, a spare bedroom, maybe can get DS to stay over someone else's house for the night, that's one more bedroom.. :rotfl2:

Do you mind a semi-messy house??? Oh, maybe you can find my glasses if you come!!
The Pasfamily invasion...be careful what you wish for. BUT if anyone can find your glasses it is HRH :lmao:

Yay Heather made it!!! When does DH arrive????

pas,
So glad it's not a cancellation. Postponements give us a little extra planning time, and that's always fun!
I am looking at November...I really need to wait til 2013...can't help it!!

gwynne thank you so much for the link .... it explained what I needed to know. This is what makes the RC family the best ... always ready to help and support! :thumbsup2
RC family is the bestest ever!!!! :grouphug:

Spent the entire afternoon sorting through piles and piles of kiddo clothes to give away to charity. Please, no "you'll assuredly get pregnant now" jokes.

At IoA, it seems quite a few of the bigger rides she'd not be tall enough for (roughly 46" at the moment). I suppose the Seussland bit is good for the kiddos, too?

In my mind, I heard a rimshot when I read this.

I'm hoping to try it out that we do it your way: no parks. Sounds like a lot of fun. Scratchin' the chin, eh? popcorn::

I'm telling myself to ignore all of this AKL stuff... and here you lot are posting gorgeous pictures and talking about how wonderful it is! RC Temptresses!
OK you have me :rotfl: today. Thank you..and I would NEVER jinx you like that. Because that always happened to me..uh 3 times. But clotes away...give away baby bath...and voila a new baby.

AKL...ahhhhhhhhhhhh. I have something even better planned for DH....and janet is working on her recap...but I really want to share!!!!

Suessland rocks! We spent LOTS of time there!!! There's a "teacup" like ride over by the Hulk...Spiderman is 40in. And Flight of the Hippogriff is 36in" and is a coaster ride..pretty darn cool for a kiddie coaster too!!!

Kook is the RC Heroine of the Day!!! It was meant to be for you to mow the lawn!!!

As for some upcoming changes.....excited to see. Availability is tight for our August weekend, but I changed, then called back yesterday, and what I wanted was there with theBB :dance3:

You really can't go wrong with a town made of chocolateLooked into the Hershey hotels YIKES. Cheaper to go to WDW
I think I would pick Disney! :rotfl:

Seriously though, does anyone else find it hard to get motivated by other theme parks? I think I am spoiled????:lmao: We did Kings Island for a couple of days last summer and it was fun. The kids loved all of the rollar coasters. But it definitely doesn't have the same immersion experience as the World.

This summer I think we are going to do Six Flags in St. Louis (because we are going up for a dance competition). I have hardly even looked at the website other than to find ticket prices! I will say, it is MUCH cheaper!

The smores in the evening were appreciated by the girls (and the adults!)

SamCarliesmores-1.jpg

We would stay again in a heartbeat and hopefully get a savannah view next time. You all will love it!!

And you will have Heather's fabulous pix and TR for info!
We loved this part of AKL!

Hi everyone! I got back from California late Monday night and had to do chemo yesterday, so I am finally catching up. Hi Sarah :) I'll be there arriving Sept 28 flight arrives in Orlando at 1:10 pm I am thinking we will be checked into the POLY by 2:30'ish.....then we plan to probably hang out at MK till closing at 7pm ( it's a MNSSHP night) We have an ADR for Cali Grill at 7:50 that night

We leave to go to Universal Studios, staying at HRH Oct 4-7th

Sat Sept 29 is our AK day. We have breakfast planned for KONA at 9am, Dinner at OHANA is at 7:05 pm

Sunday Sept 30 is MNSSHP day...we have rented a cabana at the POLY from 10-2.....we are planning on arriving at MK around 4 then having dinner at Columbia HH before the party.

Thur Oct 4 we leave for universal until Sunday, Oct 7 when we leave for home :(

Whew!!!! Busy, but fun week for sure!!!! If any of your times mesh with mine, I'd love to meet you for a :wave2: , and chat :)

Well if I don't change HA! We will be there the same time as you! I really want to push my trip out to fly in on the 2nd instead of the 29th because of the kids' school but we had to do the 29th to get the free dining. I have only made 2 ADRs and haven't begun to figure out what days in what parks yet. That is VERY unlike me but it is because I am really really hoping to switch coasts this year and do DL instead. Still waiting for the stars to align (i.e., airfare and PIN code????) Regardless, I definitely foresee some changes in my future! :wizard:

I changed my reservation from CSR to WL!!!!! So excited to stay at the Lodge for our Christmas trip. ::banana: I booked standard view, hung up and thought hmmm a courtyard view would be nice. :rotfl2:
Congrats VAL! We haven't stayed at WL but I LOVE the pictures of that resort!

LG - are you going by yourself? with dbf? parents?
I would actually love to try POP. We pulled into POP last year on our way to AKL on ME. I couldn't believe how colorful everything was! Alas, my family is too big. So I either have to leave a kid at home :rotfl2: or get two rooms. We are partial to the FD discount which isn't nearly as good on two separate rooms as it is on a room of 5.

:thumbsup2 And you can bet I'm trying that King Cupcake in August ... it sounds a little quirky but that makes it fit right at POP!! :rotfl2: Chocolate, peanut butter, banana custard and candied bacon?? Yum ....No counting carbs for this RCer!

That sounds like pure heaven! I do think we will try AoA one day so I can hopefully walk over and try that cupcake!

The tickets I can get super cheap..the hotel I picked is te same price as GF  and I need 2 rooms :rotfl: but I can stay offsite..so I can make it work. The airfare to WDW is what breaks the bank, and I can't make poor DH drive another 2000 miles so soon....

janet I missed commenting on your AKL pics...LOVE THEM. I agree the parking at Kidani is great. Covered and the elevator was close to the room. And cut through telot to get to the pool too. We missed the campfire. We spent LOTS of time chatting with the animal guides, they were great! And thekids liked Wii in the lobby on those hot afternoons!!!

Oh my gosh! That is not good. Good for you to call right away! DBF's friend's house burned down last fall and they are just now able to move in in the next few days. I think it was caused by the stove or something, but they weren't there when it happened and one of their furbabies didn't make it. I'm sure that was devastating. :sad2:

Thanks! But I think I'm going to go with TLM at AoA. :goodvibes I'll still be able to go to POP and check it out and see if I change my mind, but I think TLM at AoA is the one. BUT! I need to see pictures from the rooms when it opens on my sister's birthday which is September 15th. I want to see if it's as good as the pictures!

Good Morning RCers! :wave2:

Janet bear-y??? Really??? Well sad to say my internet is still bear-y slow!

kook thanks for posting the link where I saw the post that the 2013 rack rates are available. And I would rather be "grumpy" than missing my mind! :lmao:

Everyone on the east coast stay inside and stay cool. Our mini heat wave has broken here. I managed to miss the heat in the CA cental valley by being in Tahoe. I've had wonderful weather here - mid 70s! :cool1:

Going back to read some more .... I'm sure there was more I wanted to comment on!

Good afternoon all!

I hope everyone is staying as cool as possible, I gather a lot of the country is really hot! I just briefly ventured out and am now enjoying a large, unsweeted ice tea from Starbucks :goodvibes

KOOK, you are amazing! Thank goodness no one was hurt and you reacted quickly. WOW, a decision to mow the lawn might have saved a house from burning to the ground. We get our smoke detectors checked every year when they test our alarm. GREAT ADVICE KOOK!

Those of you talking about seeing WICKED, do it! I have seen it twice (on Broadway, my daughter lives in the theater district). The story is charming, very different from the OZ books though. The music is wonderful, I have the CD in my car and love to listen to it!

Janet, love the AKL pictures! Oh, how I would love to join you on one of those rocking chairs with my morning coffee!

Lillian, so fun, ring shopping!

missoutandabout, we are currently at WDW from 9/17 to 9/28. That being said I have a a bad habit of adding days :rolleyes1 We are driving this trip, so it is quite possible that I may still be there when you arrive!

Adding days is NOT a bad habit!!! It is a very good one says another DAer!!! :rolleyes1

Always so happy to see you posting after chemo because it means you are feeling strong. You are an amazing woman and a role model on how to dig deep within ones self to deal with whatever life throws at you.

Wow! That fire is crazy! That poor family.

Glad you were there to call 911 and no one got hurt!
Another dispatcher received a call for the same location while I was on the phone, but seconds really do count when there's a fire.

 ADRs...so weird, first day of summer break here...

Kook is the RC Heroine of the Day!!! It was meant to be for you to mow the lawn!!!
Yeah, it's ALWAYS meant for me to mow the lawn:rolleyes1. Today would have been our counties' first day off too, but because we only used one snow day (due to flooding in October, of all things) they reduced the school year by 3 days and made the last day a full day, which was kind of nice for a change. Are your kiddos excited? Did they sleep in?

Heroine - hardly - ALL of you would have done the exact same thing. My Neighborhood Watch Captain instincts must have kicked in - I pay way too much attention to everything around me - I might even be a tad overly situationally aware:hyper:

Oh my gosh! That is not good. Good for you to call right away! DBF's friend's house burned down last fall and they are just now able to move in in the next few days. I think it was caused by the stove or something, but they weren't there when it happened and one of their furbabies didn't make it. I'm sure that was devastating. :sad2:
Wow, that took so long to re-build, but only minutes to be destroyed:guilty:

Good Morning RCers! :wave2:

kook thanks for posting the link where I saw the post that the 2013 rack rates are available. And I would rather be "grumpy" than missing my mind! :lmao:
That's right, being a tad grumpy keeps those synapses firing:thumbsup2

Good afternoon all!

I posted to MM1 that there was another call into 911 right after I called. In fact, they were paving the road in front of that house and a VDOT employee also noticed the smoke and started pounding on their door as I was calling. There was a man inside (but no car in the driveway) who had no idea his house was on fire and the VDOT (VA Dept. of Trans.) man is to thank for getting him out of there. As horrible as it looks, the fire was fairly well contained in the attic/roof, so other than smoke and water damage, it may not be a total loss.

Thank you for the reminder to test our ADT smoke alarm. I tested the non-ADT ones and forgot that I need to somehow test the ADT one - off to find the manual...

Me, too - I wonder what we'll get? And, now we can compare East Coast offers with West Coast offers - should be interesting.

Good idea to post the offers we receive ... I wonder if they'll be different depending on the zip code you entered? Why else would they want our zip code?:confused3
