Art the Greeter at the Beach Club

On each trip to WDW I always stop by and give some pins to Art to give to some young pin traders. I give him good limited edition pins and he always seems greatful.

Dennis-

I guess I can share a photo we took with Art in December - I agree, such a very nice man! We stopped to chat with him a few times over Christmas and DD made sure to show him her new American Girl doll that Santa brought (I think Santa must have climbed in through our BCV balcony)!

We were at BCV from June 7 -12 and did not see him at all....I sure wanted to say hello.

My kids finally met him at the end of April. We went in and didn't see him, but we did see Vic and he found him for us - my kids were thrilled to meet a real Disney star! They both traded pins with him.

Art sort of remembered us - he remembered giving a couple the last BC/YC Anniversary pin he had, and felt bad that he no longer had the box for it...we were the couple he gave it to almost two years prior!

I am really looking forward to meeting Art in September. This is my first stay at the BCV and it will be so nice to meet a true Disney celebrity.

I have many happy memories of Disney, and Art might be the reason for one of my most favorite, cherished memory.

Back in April 1996, my wife and I were walking through the lobby of the Beach Club. We saw a CM, all dressed up in full naval regalia, talking on a Mickey telephone while being watched very intently by a little girl. She couldn't have been more than 3 years old, if that. The CM, who must have been Art, was checking to see if Mickey could have breakfast with the little girl the next day. While on the phone, Art let Mickey know that the little girl wanted to see Mickey the next day, and he let the little girl know Mickey was looking forward to seeing her, too. The little girl, in a very excited voice, asked if Minnie would be at breakfast, too. Art asked Mickey her question, and was told that Minnie would be there as well. Mickey also told Art that he was going to give the little girl an autographed picture of the three of them the next day.

After Art hung up the phone, the little girl walked away with the biggest smile on her face, knowing that Mickey and Minnie were going to see her the next day.

If someone ever asks me what makes Disney different, or what is "Disney magic", I always tell them this story.

Thanks, Art, for bringing the Magic to Life! ! !

I know Laura - how many times have we said that it isn't the same. Call me soon when you have time to catch up.

Hope to see you in Sept.

Well I had no idea about this thread but I'm so glad it got bumped up. We had the distinct pleasure of meeting Art last month. My kids asked him to sign their autograph books and he wrote the most thoughtful LONG messages to them about success in life. It was so touching. Our thoughts & prayers go out to this delightful man : )

Here is Art with my kids last month at BC:

DS12 had been looking forward to seeing Art for ages. We checked into BCV on the 11th and we were told Art was on vacation. DS actually started crying :sad1: He has missed out on seeing Art on each of our last trips and has not seen him since Aug 07. Every day he went to the lobby to check, hoping the CM at check-in had been wrong. The last time DS saw Art, Art gave (not traded, gave) him a really cool pin. DS still has that pin and wanted to show it to Art. Maybe next time.... Please send our best wishes to Art and let him know how much he really means to people :flower3:

I saw Art last month when I was on a work trip. Here's a picture:

Art is definitely a special person! We started going to Beach Club in the early 90's and Art was always there with his wonderful smile and gracious manner. We actually find ourselves going through the lobby (when we don't need to) just to see him.
I wish him the best and hope he recover's quickly.:goodvibes

After reading about Art here, we met him when we arrived at the Beach Club last year. Seeing him made our arrival special. Hope he's feeling better soon.

As I posted earlier, my kids FINALLY met Art in April...here is a small thumbnail I'm using for my trip report...click on it to take you to the page and then you can click on the picture in the report to see a full-sized one...the trip report isn't fully published yet...still working on adding pics to the later pages...
