Are you impacted by the Jif peanut butter recall?

Not to worried about giving the mice salmonella or whatever the recall is, LOL.

I have an almost empty jar. Numbers were from before the recall, but it's almost empty now anyways. It's mouse bait, LOL.

OT: Interesting observation, mice don't give a rats tail about natural peanut butter. They don't touch it.

Our stores have been just about wiped clean of decent peanut butter. I finally found a few large jars of Skippy just the other day. Peanut butter is a staple for us.

Yes, we were finally ready to open a jar I'd bought late last year for the "Covid stash." (backup foods in case of quarantine)

It was one of the recalled jars, so I trashed it.

We don't usually eat any other foods containing peanut butter, so no concerns about what else we might have.

Good to know the recall goes back that far. Guess I’ll go check my jars.

DS26 (has autism, picky eater) loves peanut butter. He used to eat Skippy, but he switched to Jif a few years ago. We always have several jars in the pantry for him. I checked all the UPC codes and didn't find any of the recalled ones. We seem to be in the clear.

Question: Why so picky about brand? They all taste the same to me.

Another question: Why natural? Sounds like a hassle.

By the way, the key to spreading the natural peanut butter is to use a spoon, especially when the jar is still very full. Don't try to stir it up--you'll make a mess--just dig the spoon below the level of the oil that sits on top, down to the gooey part, and bring up a spoonful. When the jar get about halfway empty, just stir it up before you use it. Unless you're really good at completely mixing the oil back into the solids every time you get some peanut butter (which my family isn't), you'll still end up with maybe an inch of unspreadable peanut solids left at the bottom of the jar at the end. That is great for smoothies or for digging out and eating with a spoon (my husband's favorite nighttime snack).

We only eat pb from Costco (Kirklands) that's only peanuts and salt. My MIL is diabetic and has for breakfast a slice of whole-grain bread and pb. We now prefer the taste. I use a butter knife and an immersion blender to blend it and it works very well.

I was not... it's so weird because I went through a peanut butter phase not long ago. For the first time in a long time I bought a bar of Jif (it was a weird light blue label I had never seen before, but looked healthier).

Anyway, the almost empty jar was sitting on my desk at work. Somebody told me it was NOT part of the recall, which there might only be a spoonful left in the jar at that point. It would have been too late anyway. Either that or they saw it was almost empty already and didn't want to freak me out.
Ummm, Jif Natural (without added sugar) is included in the recall.
I was actually correct in my suspicions, the almost empty jar I had WAS on the recall list. They didn't want me to freak out so they told me it wasn't. I never felt any ill effects from it. I typed in my info on the website and within 6 weeks I am supposed to get a coupon for another jar. I guess it's a win :thumbsup2

When you eat peanuts from a shell do you put sugar and oil on it?
Where we used to live 26 years ago, our local grocery store offered freshly ground peanuts while you watch. The only ingredient is peanuts. Once you get used to it, most other jar pb looks like plastic tastes like crap.
Crazy Richard’s is the next best thing. I don’t mind stirring it first. I store them upside down for about a month before opening to make it easier.

Peanut Butter is like a drug to me - I love it! ❤️
Jif is definitely my favorite brand - I have an open one here that’s 1/2 gone. I’ve had no issues so I’m still eating it.
I’m going to need to replace it soon, so now I’m nervous it won’t be there. I’m going to the grocery store today, so I’ll soon find out.

@ruadisneyfan2 I only buy Crazy Richard's also. Love it! Regular peanut butter does taste fake and weird now, I agree. I will have to try your tip of storing it upside down for a month before opening. Even though I try to stir from the bottom every time, the last half inch or more in the jar is still pretty devoid of the natural oil.

I hope the peanut butter recall doesn’t put you in a jam.

I don't think they taste at all the same. Perhaps as an ingredient in dishes or making cookies but as a spoonful? Oh, yes. I guess it's like the people that can tell the difference between Coke and Pepsi. There is most definitely a difference.

Slo, don't hold your breath. Every grocery store by my MD house and my NC house has just cleared the shelves of all Jif. There were none to be had. I guess it was easier to take them all off the shelves than see if they had the affected jars.

There is only one food that there is only one specific brand that I will buy or eat, and that happens to be Jif PB. Anything else I can find a different brand for. Thankfully I have had a good amount stashed up, so it hasn't really impacted me much.

No . I prefer Skippy so that is what I buy for me orb Peter Pan if it isn't in stock.
P.S. DH & I are one of those people who know the difference between Coke & Pepsi and only buy Pepsi for home.
