Are they still seating only 1 family/party per table?

I’ve only been on one Disney cruise before, but found the dinner pairing nearly magical. It was just me and my 9 and 5yo daughters. Disney put us at a table for six with a single mom with similarly aged kids. The kids loved the company and we both enjoyed chatting with an adult having a similar cruise experience.

Is it a space issue or castmemeber issue? I would think combining tables allows DCL to have less castmembers for dining then a lot of single family tables.

It is most definitely a space issue and I can see tables being super close together if everyone got their own. The servers are still serving the same amount of people regardless of the spacing of the tables. We have been on nine Disney cruises and have always been sat with other people without issue. Most the time we just do our own thing and the other family does their own thing and nobody seems bothered by it. I think people don't realize that just because you're sitting at the same table doesn't mean that you have to socialize and interact with people. Usually after the initial greeting every night everybody just talks amongst themselves. It's kind of how they do it in Europe with communal tables. Americans seem to have trouble with that for some reason.

Tables will already be assigned when you board. You'll need to put the request (remember it is not guaranteed) at the very latest a couple of weeks out.

I always call and make the request soon after I book the cruise, but you can request it anytime after you book. I wouldn't wait until the day of your cruise.

I spoke with shoreside guest services yesterday and the CM said you would only be seated with those in your cabin (or with others if your reservations are linked)…..through May 31st. Who knows if this is correct, but it’s the info I was given.

I'll just make sure my TA has it on my reservation for my Feb 2023 cruise.

At the new table, the family was nice, but the kids were clearly never impressed with anything DCL. They had taken advantage of a cheap GTY for their first cruise and had an inside room on a lower deck, which was not pleasing to the kids. Also, as they lived on a mountain in San Diego, anything that was brought up about port adventures was not good enough for them -- they could go swimming or scuba diving or jet skiing any day they wanted at home so why do it on the cruise -- so that got a bit old. That gave us two strikes for a Disney matchup on the same cruise.

Nothing cheap about DCL lol!! Nothing wrong with a lower deck or inside cabin either. Some people actually prefer lower decks!! Go Deck 2!!

Is it still 1 party / table? Before April 1 update there was this statement in the Know Before You Go : "For dinner, Guests will be assigned to the same table and service team, with one travel party per table" I don't see this anymore...

I hadn’t noticed this, I’m very curious as well. We have a cruise coming up the end of the month - I sent an email request in for a private table today just in case.

I suspect it is one party per table until they cannot. It will be purely a function of capacity, and if they are willing to have more passengers than single tables...

Definitely sent an email to request that my parents and I have our own table. It’s bad enough that my plan to get us time at the Rainforest Room is gone now - I don’t want us to have to deal with others at our table.

The tables used to all be 4 place. They would push together tables for larger groups. So one party per table shouldn't be a problem. The real question is, do they have room to keep tables distanced as capacity increase.

I would have requested a table change after one evening of that. Yuck.

My husband and I did a cruise on the Magic 22 yrs ago for our honeymoon. We were both 30 yrs old and we were put with a 70 year old woman. She was very nice, but it was like being with your grandma...not exactly what you want on your honeymoon.

It probably was awkward for her too, feeling like the third wheel, having dinner with 2 lovebirds.

Agreed. This is why I always request a private table, whether I'm cruising with family or solo.

I think as long as the website continues to post the covid warnings on their website, it will remain one family (or linked reservations) per table. I’m not planning to share a bread basket or be in that close contact with complete strangers in the near future. I have family members that I wouldn’t want to share a table with.

I heard that. I dont think they are distancing tables anymore either.
