Are the songs performed live in "Finding Nemo"?

We were watching the show last week and I've always wondered, are the songs performed live for each performance or are lip synched? Either way, it's a fun show to watch, but I was curious. I would think they are recorded with all the moving the actors are doing while performing the show, but did not know for sure.

IMO its lip synched but was a super cute show nevertheless.

I don't think they're lip synching it. I've seen it several times and with different actors and it sounded different every time. Our last time, the actor that played Crush was not great, and either was his singing. But in the past I've loved that character's singing.

That's the one character I think has the most difficult song. The vocal range in "Go With the Flow" is incredible and I guess that we've been fortunate to have the same performer each time as he has not had a problem with it. Very talented!

Yes, the entire show is performed live by the actors on stage. Some background tracks are used, but all the singing comes from the performers. They are pretty great!

I am pretty sure the Nemo actors are singing live.

Beauty and the Beast on the other hand- only Belle and Gaston were mic'd and it was completely obvious the rest were lip sync'ing.

It's standard in West End and Broadway shows to lip sync any vocals where the physical aspects of the performance prevent a decent vocal performance, so there might be odd bits that are recorded for practical purposes with the vast majority sung live. Even having been told when those bits were in some shows I've seen, I couldn't tell. Wouldn't surprise me if there's the odd bit that's recorded in Nemo, but neither would it surprise me if it was all live.

All the singing is live, the only thing on the team is the ensemble choir. A friend of mine is on this show, he's bloat, the seahorse dad and also part of all the ensemble moments (sea turtles, fish giving directions)

Neat... and impressive! :)

That is not standard at all. It is actually frowned upon to prerecord things and affects union contracts. The only thing I can think of that is prerecorded on Broadway is Christine's High C in Phantom. It is a back up track in case the understudy can't hit the note or the performer is sick. It is not standard to do it though. They would rather find someone who can be a true triple threat than prerecord. There would be too many chances for mess ups. Now filling scenes with off stage singers or using a playback for an affect is not unheard of but that is not lip syncing.

Nothing in Finding Nemo is lip synced. Some scenes may have some prerecordings to make them sound fuller but that would only be ensemble and you would know if they were not singing on top of it.

Phantom is actually the show I used to know all the bits for (I was a teenage Phantom need). I'm on my phone but a quick Google of pre-recorded parts turns up a longer list than just Christine's High C, mostly due to the use of doubles to achieve various appearances.

I cannot speak for Nemo, but I know that at other WDW shows they can opt for pre-recorded vocals for key performers if they are having issues with their voice that day. But otherwise it's live. My guess is they can do likewise for Nemo.
