Are Strip Clubs Normal/Acceptable?

I can honestly say that I have been to more than one strip club in my life.

If anyone here who has a problem with adult venues ever decides to go to Canada for vacation heed my advice and skip Montreal!!

I went and one of the highlights of the trip was walking down St Catherine hitting each and every one of the strip clubs and adult aid stores and trust me when I say it took 3 days to get through them all:lmao: Oh and the Canadians are not uptight---huge store front windows allowed you to figure out what you wanted from the sidewalk!

Heck I even got DH his first seated dance.

It would not bother me in the least and it is a job for all involved--the girls know what the job requires and it's up to them to decide if it works for them not uptight people who have a need to push their own values and morals on the population.

I'm not saying I would want my girls to ever work in one but would support their right to be able to do so.

I know that women go to these clubs too. However, I don't know of any women who have blown their life savings on strip clubs. I do know a few men. Not saying it doesn't happen...I just think more men are really into this stuff than there are women. That's why there are 20 strip clubs geared towards men for ever one geared towards women.

I think it's unacceptable. If my DD had a friend who's Dad owned a strip club, I would not let my DD spend time with that Dad. Time at the friend's house with the Mom would be OK, but not at the Dad's house.

How would you stop the visits?

If it's a few miles away & it makes him money it wouldn't bother me. Around here, strip clubs are pretty nondescript on the outside. I couldn't tell ya who owns them but I bet they make a fairly nice salary.

They're cheesy exotic dancers, not hookers.

I doubt the kids would even have a clue. If kids ask what her dad does, say he owns a bar/nite club.

I agree

I would not want to expose her to someone who thinks that a woman's role in life is to look pretty naked, that their worth is tied to what their bodies look like and how those bodies exist just to serve men and to make lots of money for the owner.
Do you apply this standard to all jobs, or just strip clubs.

I don't think that a woman's role in life is to make muffins, or that her worth is tied to how well they bake bread and that her cooking skills exist just to serve men pastry and to make lots of money for the owner. But I wouldn't keep a kid from playing with a friend who owned a bakery.

Dancing is a job. Like any job, it doesn't define a woman's role in life. Like any job, it doesn't tie the woman's worth to her job. He doesn't mean her skills exist just to serve men.

If anything I think the women are taking advantage of the people who visit the club.. Who knew breasts could make a women so much money??

I think strip clubs are normal & acceptable provided you think that watching naked people dance around a pole to feed a drug habit is normal and acceptable........

Me personally, I'm not a big fan of the whole thing.......

Well I wouldn't be thrilled but really they are not married anymore and he's a grown up man that can make his own decisions.

I understand her concern with everyone finding out though- because if there is going to be a fight- his name will be all over the place. But again it's not like Peg is stripping or her daughter is- so what is there to talk about anyway?

Peg might point out that their daughter would obviously believe this to be an acceptable line of work and may strip someday.

not sure what I'm trying to say other than for years women have worked hard to prove themselves in a "man's" world, not just pretty faces/bodies/cooks/cleaners/baby makers...we can run for president of The United States and right down the street, there are a bunch of us taking our clothes off and doing whatever else for money. It just makes me sad:(
I don't see how women making money dancing does any harm to the idea that women can work in a man's world. The points wasn't to force every women to take on a traditional manly job. It was to remove the barriers that prevented women who wanted to go after those roles from doing so. But there's no crime against sisterhood when a women does take on a job that isn't in the man's world is there?

So your saying all strippers are druggies? :confused3 :faint:

Far more men have blown their savings on boats than on strip clubs. But I wouldn't hold it against a girl if her dad owned a marina.

 I was just making a general comment on male vs. female strip clubs. I wouldn't hold anything against someone because of what business their father was in.

Perhaps you meant this as a general comment as well.

Not all, just most.

In fairness, they don't all dance either........Some simply writhe sinuously I hear....... ;)

That is quite a generalization. Kind of like saying all actors are alcoholics and need to spend time in rehab.

Ohhhh, we are still pretending that only dancing goes on in these joints....gotcha;) :rotfl: I'm not arguing with you, you make a good point. The whole strip club thing is just something I will never be able to understand:confused3

True, but having a boat doesn't reinforce negative stereotypes the way "exotic dancers" & strippers re-enforce the stereotype that attractive women are ONLY good for sex/titilation.

You know what, I've been to a couple of strip clubs and I have never once in my life thought or felt that about any woman.

I know what CAN go on in those places. I also happen to have 3 first cousins who dance in those clubs. I don't think any of them have done what you are alluding to.

I've also mentioned that I have a friend whose wife actually TELLS him to visit those clubs at least once a year... she likes it when he gets home. ;)

I agree with you Okey...yes I'm sure every home has some skeletons in the closet but this man is making his living by the objectification of women and it would make me very uncomfortable for my daughter to be around him. I am also ashamed of the women who do this for a living...I'm quite sure that they laugh their way to the bank by making fools of their male clientele but it makes me feel like women have taken a giant step backwards in the evolution process:(

I agree with all your posts, cantw8.

The 2 girls I have known personally who have stripped at a club were both druggies. Very sad for them. One girl did not work at a club but would do private parties and such on her own. She was not a druggie and was a lovely person who needed the attention more than the money.

She tells him to go? It'd be a cold day in hell before I sent DH to a strip club. Lucky for me I still *got it*. :rotfl:

You are probably not typical of men who frequent the clubs. The ones I have passed in my travels tend to in pretty low-class/low-education level areas. Presumably, men with less education will be more apt to think this way.
