Are Strip Clubs Normal/Acceptable?

I guess I should clarify this... It's not the proximity to the school that is upsetting Peg per say, it's the fear that word will get out at the school and her DD may suffer consequences. (i.e. teasing or parents not allowing their children to associate) I don't think Peg has a gripe with strip bars in general, just the fact that it is her daughter's father opening one.

Also, this would be (as far as I know) the only strip club in that area - perhaps the entire town. I would name the town but I don't want to chance exposing Peg's identity. Let's just say it's in the buckle of the Bible belt. There is no possible way this club will go unnoticed. ;)

I think it's unacceptable. If my DD had a friend who's Dad owned a strip club, I would not let my DD spend time with that Dad. Time at the friend's house with the Mom would be OK, but not at the Dad's house.

I'm with the ones who are on Peg's side. I've got issues with it for a lot of reasons, but I doubt there's anything she can do about it. She does have my sympathy though.

what would it do?

I probably wouldn't be happy about it but I gotta say, my dad's friend owned one in NYC (not in a residental neighborhood) and it made him very, very wealthy. He was a legitimate business man. It wasn't a sleezy dive either.

He wasn't a porno king or a pervert. Married man with kids. He always said if he got rid of his dancers it would be a bar.

Why? :confused3 Unless he's Hugh hefiner with the playboy bunnies running around, he's probably got a regular house.

I think that is a very narrow minded way of thinking. I guess you request resumes of all the parents of your DD's friends. You may have no clue what some of them are up to.

In HS or School does everyone really know what the other kids parents do for a living? I mean I did know with my close friends but 90% of my class I had no clue.. the only reason I knew the girl from HS's parents owned the strip club is she lived up the street from me in a normal house, with normal parents, no funky parties, no naked chicks walking around.. they went to work came home, and that was that.. no swinging from the rafters after work, normal cars, normal clothes, they were just normal people who owned a strip club.

I can see how in small towns the word would get out, especially if there was a big uproar due to proximity to an upscale area. Parents talk, then kids hear it, then kids exert some form of their own judgement based on the way they have been raised (i.e. teasing, cold shoulders, or no problems). My kids can pick up if I am upset or biased against something just by how my voice sounds when speaking about a person involved, I know I should work on this but it is human nature.

We had a mother of two in our town pose for Playboy in May. Was a HUGE deal because her kids went to school here and she flew back and forth between L.A. and the Mid-West. People were condemning her mothering skills and behavior. And then it trickled down into her kid's elementary school. What the problem is kids don't get ALL the facts before they blast off at the children involved.

I would not want to expose her to someone who thinks that a woman's role in life is to look pretty naked, that their worth is tied to what their bodies look like and how those bodies exist just to serve men and to make lots of money for the owner. I was asked my opinion and I voted unacceptable. Feel free to disagree.

I agree with you Okey...yes I'm sure every home has some skeletons in the closet but this man is making his living by the objectification of women and it would make me very uncomfortable for my daughter to be around him. I am also ashamed of the women who do this for a living...I'm quite sure that they laugh their way to the bank by making fools of their male clientele but it makes me feel like women have taken a giant step backwards in the evolution process:(

Wow, I don't think that most strip club owners feel like that at all. I think they see it as a means of making money through providing a service. It's not like the girls at these clubs aren't paid MORE than fairly for the job they do. You know there are also women's strip clubs, too, right?

Not sure about 'evolution' but all it proves to me is that women are smart enough to exploit male weaknesses and profit from it themselves!

OT - I think the "womens" strip clubs usually end up being frequented by men, if you know what I mean.

I'd go to see females strip.. who cares? does that make me gay? Nope.. I wanna see what these guys spend all this money on..

I've been meaning to go to the new strip club forever but just got to get round to it! I'm straight but it doesn't mean I don't want to see what I'm missing. Plus I believe that sexuality is more of a 'scale' than a definitive gay/straight/bi and I'm open to the possibility of seeing some chicks I find attractive one day! Previously I've only been to women's strip clubs, but they're not very impressive.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Well, you have a point there;) "Evolution" was probably a poor word to use...not sure what I'm trying to say other than for years women have worked hard to prove themselves in a "man's" world, not just pretty faces/bodies/cooks/cleaners/baby makers...we can run for president of The United States and right down the street, there are a bunch of us taking our clothes off and doing whatever else for money. It just makes me sad:(

But there are also a bunch of men taking their clothes off for money. If you want equal rights then we're pretty much equal to men in most legal/financial/societal ways these days. And just as it's a man's prerogative to choose his career, it's great that women have the same choices these days too. I wouldn't think any less of a women who went and danced in a strip club to make good money, to support a family etc. than I would a man who did the same thing.

I know. I always kinda thought it was the guys being exploited. They're the ones paying and the women are the ones making the money.
