April Rental car rates WOW!$$$

I am trying to rent a car on April 4-11 (I know SPRING BREAK!) and can't find anything cheaper than $461 using the ooag code for Dollar. I am willing to fly into another airport if necessary to save $ - haven't booked flights yet-
The problem is is has to be a minivan- we are 2 adults and 4 kids... I know I found something last year around the same time for about $300- wishful thinking I guess...
any ideas from the travel gurus?

Minivans are very expensive. We are renting one for 10 days at $515. We signed up for Amex so we could get some bonus points to use toward our rental.

I was slightly entertaining renting a car in Feb.

Rates are for $600+ for the small vehicles for a week.

Uh.. no thank you.
