......and then there's the whole jumper/sweater, sidewalk/path, pants/trousers......etcetc......:rotfl: and as for knickers...:rotfl2:

.

I get sidewalk/path, and pants/trousers, and even knickers..lol.. The jumper/sweater thing is different. Jumper here would be like a once piece outfit, like for babies. Although we also would probably use path as something that goes thru the woods or something. Just have to say they are really the same difference... :dance3:

You are all giving me a good chuckle here this morning! The conversation brings to mind one that my mother had with my DD's when they were young teens.

My mother still has 1960's terminology that she uses at times.. This time it was using the word "thongs" in place of "flip flops". Back then that is what thongs were, flip flops! So, this one day my mother was telling my girls that she had just returned from vacation and she had forgotten to bring her "thongs". Well the girls were rolling on the floor laughing hysterically as they were picturing their grandmother packing thongs (abbreviated panties) for her vacation! and even worse...wearing them! :rotfl::rotfl: One of the funnier conversations I ever heard them having, lolol.

I wasn't a child of the 60's, but I do remember that we would call flip flops thongs as well, but that was also before the debut of the "thong" panty. What has this world come to..:rotfl:

I love the first time I heard someone from the UK say "What's for pudding?"

I thought the obvious answer would be.....pudding. :confused3 When the response was "Apple pie" I was VERY confused.

Growing up the the Beatles generation, I was (and am) a devout Anglophile, but I had never run acrosss that one till later in life.

.

So I have to assume that "pudding" is dessert? That would have gotten me as well, because pudding here is NOT apple pie... :rotfl2:.

We like the difference in 'pavement'. We say to our children 'walk on the pavement', but you Americans would no way say that!!!!;)

I really Hope that some of my favorite CM's and CD's are on board. If they're not it just wont be the same.. :sad2::sad2::sad2:

Apart from our very first cruise, the other 5 had been on the Magic, 50 nights in total. Going on the TA last January on the Wonder was terrible as we knew not one of the CM's. We know quite a few now on the Magic. It really made a big difference. I guess it won't be much different on this cruise as we didn't get to know any at all apart from our server.

:lmao: And then there is the acronym...GITs which to us is Geezers In Training. But something very different to our friends across the Pond. :rolleyes1

WAY back in the 60s!!! :rotfl::laughing:

We did a couple on the Wonder way back, but the Magic is "home" to us also. We will try to meet some of the CMs on our Alaska cruise in July. :thumbsup2

Nope.. We would for sure be telling them to get on the sidewalk!.. lol.. Around here, some kids would just look at you and say, well the street is pavement!.. Cuz they are smart mouths like that...;)

Hope everyone that celebrates Easter has a joyful day.

We are heading for DW today to pick up some last minute gifts. We hope to see the shuttle on the 29th and the next day begin our drive back to CT. We will miss our Disney freinds here in FL.

The silver lining to this is that you can say one year from today we will be on the Wonder going to Hawaii.

I felt totally lost on the Wonder at first. I really did not know what I was letting myself in for. We had done one previous cruise on the Wonder, but did not see anybody that we remember from that cruise other than Captain Henry. What probably has something to do with it is that a lot of people we did get to know on that cruise had moved to the Magic by 2009. I started to feel a little bit more at ease once I bumped into Clayton. He was our Cruise Director on one cruise and Assistant Cruise Director on two more cruises. So at least there was a familiar face.

We did make friends on this cruise though. We absolutely loved our stateroom host and I can't wait to see her again in October. Unless they move her, she will be on the wrong side of the ship, but I am sure that I will go and say "hi" every day. We also kind of got adopted by a couple of the other stateroom hosts that were in our general area. We also made friends amongst the photographers and the gym/spa staff as well as somebody from the cruise staff.

I can't wait to go back on the Wonder in October. The Magic will always have a special place in my heart, but at the moment I am honestly missing the Wonder more. I never thought that I would ever say this. I suppose this is a good job as our next two cruises will be on the Wonder again. By the time the Hawaii cruise is over, we will have had the same number of cruise on the Wonder as we had on the Magic and we will have had more nights on the Wonder (41 on the Wonder, 37 on the Magic)

I would love to get her started!.. I find this kind of stuff facinating... Mostly because it's not really having to try to learn a new language, but learning how others use our current language, we all understand what each other is saying, but, just don't get some of the words!.. Now I would be interested to know what you call a thong....I personally call it an uncomfortable waste of good material! :lmao:

We call flip flops or knickers a thong, I guess you have to work out what we're talking about by hearing the word in a sentence. We also call the thong knickers a G-string, I have no idea why?

I didn't quite quote the last message like I thought it was going to..I am new to this whole board thing.. I think I would have a harder time deciphering Aussie, that I do English..lol.. Because, I would probably NEVER get that a nappy is a diaper, here a nappy is a kiddie version of saying NAP, as in taking a sleepy nap.. And as for lollies, that to me would be a plural form of a shortened form of lolly pop, which is candy on a stick.:rolleyes1

I find that a lot of baby things are different, like prams / strollers, cots / cribs, dummy / pacifier / soother, onsie / all-in-one, etc...

Similar for foods - tomato sauce / ketchup, lemonade for us is sprite, for you is lemon cordial, soft drink / soda / pop and an entree for us is the appetiser, so we have an entree, then a main, then a dessert. :confused3

......and then there's the whole jumper/sweater, sidewalk/path, pants/trousers......etcetc......:rotfl: and as for knickers...:rotfl2:

Oh yes, I know you would remember all the convo's we had about this on the TA thread :lmao:

Even though we use thong for both we would probably determine which one by the context and the conversation. Although, I'm sure teenagers would still have a good chuckle. ;)

I really Hope that some of my favorite CM's and CD's are on board. If they're not it just wont be the same.. :sad2::sad2::sad2:

I know the staff are moving around quite a bit between the ships right now with the Dream and soon the Fantasy. Will somebody know who we might have ahead of time, or will it be wait and see?
I adored the CD Brent (he's an Aussie), I heard he's on paternity leave at the moment? We also hit it off with Dave, another Aussie, Entertainment Director. Our servers were gorgeous also, Depesh and Hector. :goodvibes

We got to know a few lovely CMs on the PC cruise - apart from our fantastic servers, we had another couple of favourites in the restaurants (incl. Palo), and Outlook cafe. They all really helped make our cruise wonderful.

I've already made changes to our booking - heaps of categories have opened up since I first booked - it meant going GTY, but at least we're all booked in the same category now, and not at different ends of the ship on different decks.

Easter Sunday here - nice and relaxing. Enjoy your weekends.

Cheers,
Sally :)

I'm predicting a ACD/Cruise Director position for him with DCL before very long! :thumbsup2

Thanks, I'll check it out :thumbsup2

I agree the umbrella type strollers are so much easier to travel with, I'd just like to bring my big one for day sleeps and stuff, ie: if baby is having a sleep we can eat lunch in peace or something? Those smaller ones aren't comfy enough for sleeping in. What do you think? :confused3

We have a McClaren Triumph? That sucker has traveled around the world. It is a little larger than a typical umbrella, but it reclines and has a bit more room. I can't recommend it enough. Even though DS is 4 it still comes to WDW with us,

Yeah i know thats the only thing i dont like about the new ships coming out Although when i was on the dream the 2nd sailing im glad i got to see my peeps just now need them to be on here.since by then the dream is old and the fantasy will be a month old already.... Brent is preggers? hmmm i bet him and his wife will be very rich haha. a guy getting pregnant thats the 1st. I love brent he's awesome known him for several years already and darren, Clayton aka hollywood, Rachel i know is the CD for the dream. I dont think the crew know this far in advanced where they will be by then. As far as Aussie Dave he's leaving the cruise life if he didnt leave it already. But that dave wasnt the entertainment director/ Pub Host for the adults area That was the canadian dave.

I was a child of the late 60's and remember calling flip flops thongs! Now I live in Florida and only time I wear shoes is when I work. All the other time it is flip flops. My favorites come from LL Bean.

Wow, I hope so, such a great guy, last I saw of him he was home on holidays in Oz and we saw him on the news helping in the massive clean up after the floods in Brisbane. Great guy!

I will look into that one, I always like to go from personal recommendations rather than listen the sales staff who have no kids!
We had a tandem Peg Perego that we used for traveling all the way up till 2008, the girls were 7 & 8 and we took it to WDW, there is just so much walking there! It was still in great condition so we gave it to a family we saw struggling with their 2 young kids on the last day of our trip. They were so grateful.

Hahaha, paternal leave can be taken by both parents, maternity leave is just by the mother. I would like to see that though, Brent pregnant, I think he could pull it off.
I'm confused, which Dave is leaving? Aussie Dave or Canadian Dave?

My favorites are Havianas, I think every Aussie has a few pairs. Haven't tried the LL Bean ones, we don't have that brand here.

I love them too Hayley, though my croc flip flops are my faves right now ...... I'd live in flip flops if I could....it's a shame I have to wear 'proper' footwear for work!;)

I'm looking forward to meeting new cms on the Wonder, only cruised on it once before. We had such great staff on the WBTA cruise, Dave, Matt, James (in the Cove cafe) and John, my dhs favourite bar cm!:thumbsup2:worship: I'm sure we'll have fun getting to know new staff next cruise too,:cheer2:

Enjoying ridiculously hot sunny weather here in the UK today, Happy Easter to everyone! :grouphug:
