Our local cable provider is being bought by Comcast. My mother is considering converting from DSL to Broadband but does not know what to expect from Comcast. Any experience?

Very poor customer service. It rarely goes down but every time it does we get the same answer...... 4-5 days to repair. It has never taken longer than 24 hours but individual service is poor.

We've used comcast for about 7 years now and I love it. It's fast & it rarely goes down and when it has (literally twice in 7 years) it's been back up within 4-6 hours.

When I've had customer support issues I've had pretty good luck - like my modem going bad, they had a quick diagnostic to confirm, I bought a new one and they did their part in connecting it very quickly by phone.

We've had dsl and I hated it - it went down all the time for long periods of time. We have a T-1 at work - it's very reliable, too but costs about 6x as much/month - I would trade it for comcast cable in a second if I could.

OK, I have not quite the same thing to say. Service rarely goes down. But I have had quick service. However it isn't always GOOD SERVICE.... they have had to come back after telling me my problem was fixed.

We returned our cable box and the last bill showed a $247 credit, which they refuse to return to us. Typical...

I think it really depends on who the cable company was before becoming Comcast. We have Comcast for everything and have had good luck with reliability and customer service. I know in other places, the customer service is an issue.

If your company is ok now, it probably won't be much different after being bought out.

We've had it for 4 years without any trouble-they're quick to fix an issue, and decent with visits. My main warning would be that after my dad died, it was a PITA to get his name off the bill-not an issue for many, but might be.

I've had comcast cable (with basic tv) for 6 years and I've *never* had to call them for service. It rarely goes out. Except for the higher price ($50/month for internet and basic cable), I have zero complaints.

I can't get DSL or FIOS (fiber optic) from Verizon.

We got the Comcast Triple Play (phone/cable/internet) in December. So far so good. :confused3 They customer service reps and the installers were all very polite and professional. I guess when we have our first outage we will see how they perform under pressure.

We have had nothing but problems. Every single bill we get has a charge of $250 for an NBA package that we never ordered. Everytime we call they say they will take it off the next bill but they never do. It has become a joke when we get the bill that the NBA package will be on there even after they swear it won't be and it always is.

We have had other billing issues and they seem to never get resolved even after talking to managers, etc. Comcast is included in our HOA so we really have no choice except to get satellite but we would still be paying for Comcast.

Comcast bought out Adelphia about 8 months ago. The switch has been gradual. Only problem I had was their computer decided our modem wasn't registered. Customer service has me work with it from this end for about 15 min buy switching everything off then back on. When that didnt' reset it he told me to give him about an hr to get it fixed in their system. He was true to his word. About an hr later is was working.
Only complaint we've had wiht the calbe is they moved a couple of channels we liked to the next level. However they added a couple that we've been watching so it is pretty much a wash.

We loved our Comcast, but they were just bought out here by Time Warner. So since then we lost a few TV channels, but internet has always been great!

Except for the higher price ($50/month for internet and basic cable)

You get both for $50? With Verizon we pay $40 plus for our DSL, and we pay $55 to Comcast for extended basic. I guess I should talk to Comcast to see what they can do for us. I know that they were just around trying to sell their 3 for $99.

We have Comcast internet (was Adelphia before). I have never had any problems with the internet service. It has gone down a few times but is normally resolved within a couple of hours. I only had to call them for service once and they helped me very quickly over the phone. I installed everything myself. My SIL lives about 3 miles from me and she has nothing but problems with hers, but honestly I think it has more to do with her son messing around with the computer. They have replaced their modem multiple times in less than a year. I have never replaced mine in the 3-4 years I have had it. I do have trouble with the new HD channels coming in, sometimes they work fine and other times it's just blank, especially CBS. Hopefully they will get this worked out soon.

I think it depends and you should probably talk to people in your area. For us, Comcast has been so great, so wonderful, such a pleasure to have after some nasty dish people and then a useless cable company. (What kind of cable company gets to CLOSE on weekends??) The time of the switch was sucky, but Comcast upgraded the entire area to nicer, faster, better service. (Which, again, aforementioned sucky company - wasn't hard to get better!) When I had issues, they sent people out immediately. Customer service speaks English clearly! And even better, when DH was deployed and I went to NJ, they put me on a seasonal rate for the two months and restarted my cable without me even calling and reminding them. Other than the switch, and when they discovered that my wires (which were not buried by the previous cable company) had been chewed through by a dog, I'd never had service problems.

Personally, they are on my "evil companies" list. Very poor customer service, many rate increases. They are a monopoly in our area, so if you don't want a dish, you get them.

Hate, hate, hate them! We dumped Comcast totally a few years ago and haven't looked back. We had phone, cable, and cable internet through them, they over-billed three months in a row and kept coming up with excuses as to why it happened. There was some other issue that I've blocked from my memory. We have Directv, cable internet through our small cable company, and Vonage now and it's great!

It's $54.95 a month for just the internet if you aren't a TV subscriber and $42.95 if you are a basic cable TV subscriber. I don't need cable TV since I have satellite but I figured I'd get the basic TV as a backup and for the guest rooms (they don't need satellite!).

I have Comcast for phone/internet and cable. We've never had any major problems and if I have a billing issue they are very friendly and prompt to fix it. I had some pro-rating issues after switching to voip. But like I said they were very prompt in correcting it.

Oooh, this probably is the answer to the problem I'm having. I had Adelphia, just bought out by comcast. And my internet IP address was "lost". I'm going to have to call them, but I haven't had the hour I expect it to take since it happened!
