We are in the process of looking to add-on points somewhere. Our home is the Boardwalk, but we are thinking of doing a resale at hilton head or vero beach. For those that have been, could you please describe the resort, especially the beaches. We spent a couple of days in cocoa beach before our wonder cruise and just loved the atlantic ocean. I am naturally drawn to the beauty of hilton head and/or vero beach but just would like opinions. We would be more inclined to select a resort that had the better beaches, for family fun in both water and in the sand!
Thanks in advance!

Please someone explain the point system to me, i received info. on this from different resorts, but the only thing it tell you are how many points you need, not the cost per point? Thanks nana2tots:eek:

I own at HH, but don't recommend it. While other's love it, I perfer to stay ON the beach or within a short walk at HH. Disney's property is too far away from me.

HH has a beautiful beach with gentle waves and it is very wide and clean. I love it there.

I have an add on at VB. The beach in June last year was wide and wonderful, though you do have to pay for chairs and umbrella's. We went back in Sept and due to a tropical storm there was no beach for a few days. When the storm settled down we were able to walk the beach in both directions. The resort is not close to restraunts you need to drive. But I like the tranquility, we stop at the store on our way in and usually cook most of our meals. The staff is very friendly and the restraunts on site are very good. They have a great kids pool and plenty of activities for them. I added on after our september stay. We decided we really liked the resort and it gave us the extra option of doing Disney and a Beach vacaton all in one or at different times.

We did an add on at HH after we first visited there. True it is not on the beach, but we find we don't miss that. The activities at HH are great and they have a naturalist on staff. The marsh location is gorgeous and looking out over the marsh in the morning and seeing all the birds and the wildlife is really wonderful. The beach house is a short ride away and the beach at HH is a little nice (IMHO) than the one at Vero Beach. Also, the maintenance costs are less at HH than Vero Beach a consideration over the longhaul. If you have read any of the recent polls here, HH came out on top of all the resorts when DVC board members ranked the boards and I truthfully have never seen a negative post about HH. THe other benefit that HH has over Vero is that there is so much more to do around HH. There are more restaurants, more activities, and if you like history, Savannah, Charleston and Beaufort are close by. Having visited both resorts, my vote goes to HH.

We love the Vero Beach Resort. We hardly leave the resort other than to visit the Ocean Grill for dinner. The pool, grounds, and staff are all great. It is very relaxing, and we generally just kick back and forget our worries. No schedule, no lines, no running around.

If you are going specifically for "the beach", there may be better choices. The beach is not all that wide, and the water can get rough. It is more than fine for us, as we just like to walk the beach, not swim or set up camp.

On a side note, there are two restaurants, a snack bar, and a bar that serves food on site.

These days our Disney vacation would not feel complete without at least a few days at Vero Beach...

While both are considered a beach resort and have access to the beach, there are big differences in the resorts.

I consider VB more of a beach resort as it is located directly on the beach and the resort has a brighter and more open feel to it.

But the beach at HH, while you do need to travel to the beach from the resort (it is about a mile away), is much nicer and wider than the beach at VB. The atmosphere of the resort is much darker and more woodsy and is located on the marsh. It is a beautiful natural resort, but not what I consider "beachy".

As others have mentioned, there is more in the HH area than in the VB area as far as restaurants, shopping, etc, but I can stay at VB for close to 2 weeks without ever feeling the need to leave the resort grounds. I don't feel the same at HH.

I love the beach location but am more of a pool person, so for me VB is perfect. My vote goes to VB.

So if you are looking to add on primarily for the beach, it is a tough call. Both have their plusses and minuses as far as the beach goes.
