I was just wondering if anyone had been to HH! Which airport did you fly into? How long/difficult a drive to HH? What did you think of the resort? Would love to hear from you!

Hi Debs we've been there a few times infact we got married there lol -- We've flew into Savannah airport which has to be the nicest airport i've been in. We've also drivin up from Orlando 6-7hr drive ( easy thought) Resort itself is fab -- the best apart from OKW lol - Very laid back way of life in the low country - great beaches. Disneys beach house is great. Lots to do and see --Savannah - Charleston - Beaufort. Some good shopping lol -- one thing i can really say is i felt far more safer there than i do in Florida - very friendly people!!!!!!

Pole fishing at the end of the pier - crab nets as well - great fun

Need anymore info Debs just PM me

Ohhhhhhhh i just want to go back more so than Florida -- we went to Hunting Island ( which is a state park as well ) and we were the only ones on the beach it was magic

This does sound such a great resort. I'd love to go there one day :)

JJ - had you been to HH before you decided to be married there?

Nope Hilary -- just booked every thing over the phone. Had to apply for our marriage license at Beaufort, then way 24hrs to pick up. Easy peasy booked a Notary and a photographer as well. And got a married on the beach near Disneys beach house.

JJ: Thanks for the reply! That's amazing that you got married there! So, I hope you're patient as I've got lots of questions!! Can you get a direct flight to Savannah, or is it via somewhere else? What was it like driving there from Orlando? Is it an easy drive? Is there anywhere nice to stop on the way?

What sort of unit did you stay in? Nice views? Good beach? What is the best time of year to go for nice weather? What did you do there? Are there nice restaurants nearby?

How does it compare to the resorts at WDW for size, theme, feel etc? I'd love to see any pictures of the resort that you've got!
love

As far as i know Debs theres no direct flights -- we flew via DC. Driving was very easy from Orlando straight up I-95 lol. We never stopped off anywhere apart from service station -- although there are some nice places in Georgia. We've stayed in a 1 bedroom good size - views - mostly marsh views - some pool. Beach is the best part -- gently sloping great for swimming in. We've been in March - and October both times had great weather.

One thing is Debs forget about WDW this is a place onto itself -- the closest thing to compare it to is Wilderness lodge. Restaurants lots of choices to choose from some within walking distance and a lot in a 10 min drive.

No pics i'm too shy lol -- fire away with anymore questions -- i'll try and find some more info for you.

Savannah and Charleston are a must Debs trust me ( easy driving to both )

Thanks for all the info! How long did it take you to get to HH from DC, did you take an internal flight to Savannah and then drive? Can I ask, was that very expensive? Would you say it was easier going to DC, or driving from Orlando? What is the driving like once you get there, is it very busy or more relaxed?

It sounds like a really relaxing place to be, did you stay for one week or two? Did you meet the dog? See any dolphins? Do they organise any trips from there like at VEro? How much of the surrounding area did you get to see?

If you know of any wevbsites that have pictures of the resort or info about HH and the area then let me know!

We flew with United from Heathrow to DC and then got a United Express flight to Savannah very easy. About 1hr from DC to Savannah and then a 45min drive to HH ( we picked our car up at HH airport ) The Driving from Orlando is easy peasy too. We stayed a week at OKW then a week at HH. Both are easy Debs it depends on your length of stay at HH?

Just did a price check on Uniteds website for you - middle of March for 2wks 1 adult £478.84 from Heathrow to Savannah via DC ( not bad ).

We've stayed both 2wks and a wk.

Driving about HH is very easy so laid back -- we hired bikes and cycled back and forth to the Beach house.

Trips -- ohh yes Savannah is a good day trip ( graveyards old houses - river front )

Did you know that the films Midnight in the garden of good and evil was set there -- Forest Gump was filmed in Beaufort just outside HH. Charleston is a must Patriots point which is home of a decommissioned Aircraft carrier and some other ships that visitors can board and look around. Fort Sumter were the America Civil War started. Slave Market - great cemetary and some of the best restaurants. Beaufort small wee town with some great buildings and lovely cafes and quaint shops. Hunting island spooky like something like the land that time forgot lol -- but so quiet you can have the whole beach to yourself lol. Didn't see Shadow the dog lol.

Did we see dolphins? well jules did only she thought it was a SHARK and was shouting for me to get out of the water lol.

Debs if you go to HH it will seem like you have 48hrs in a day -- so relaxing. Just goooooooooooo You'll love it.

I'll PM you some website when i get a moment.

Anymore questions fire away ( why did i say that lol ) only joking.

We also went to Hilton Head this past October half-term. My DW wanted to minimise the flying, and flights to Orlando was very expensive. We flew to Atlanta with BA and stayed overnight in the Embassy Suites near the airport. The following day we drove through Georgia to HH bypassing Savannah. Approx 4 hours drive plus stops. Everyone really loved Hilton Head. The beach is lovely and the bike riding easy. The view over the marsh land from the balcony was beautiful and you can see pelicans, egrets and ibis flying overhead. We went on the Disney dolphin trip and saw many dohpins and also went on the boat trip from Town Harbor to Savannah. If you play golf you won't be disappointed as there are hundreds of courses and the outlet shopping malls are also excellent.

driving to hilton head is a good option..we did it 2 years ago.. we arrived at sanford picked the car up and drove to daytona for the night, next moring we had a steady drive north stopping at st agustine for lunch and a walk round.
we then pushed on to hilton head no problems arriving at about 4.oopm after a total journey of 6 pleasent hours seeing the coast and country.
comimh back we stayed on the main route all the way back to okw total time 5 to 6 hours.. not a problem
the directions are easy and it was handy having the car with us for shopping and trips to savannah etc.. some thing to consider if you can only get a charter flight and are happy to make the drive part of your holiday

Just wanted to add HH is a great resort IMHO with loads of great things to do. The drive is really pretty easy to/from Orlando and I think 6 hours is a reasonable guess as long as you avoid Jacksonville in and around "rush hour" (between 8 and 10 in the morning and 5-6.30 in the evenings) during the week.
