Anyone Know Chain Restaurants With Little Training Time

Well I'm pretty much up against it in regards to the money situation & need to get a waiting gig to get some cash ASAP.

I've been waiting tables for 6 years & the learning how to serve is something I already know. I'm looking for a chain because there are about 10 within 5 miles of my house. Idealy I'd like to work at Outback (though it's a bit further away).

There was a restaurant I worked at for 3 years & could probably go with minimal training (though the menu has had a lot of changes I think), but the problem is that the restaurant doesn't do the kind of business that I could pay the bills with.

Anyway, does anyone have some names of restaurants that only require a few days to about a week's worth of training?

I guess I'm pretty naive, I didn't think waiters had a lot of training time. When I worked retail at a grocery store, we had one day of mandatory training and then as soon as you could pass the test you were done. The test was pretty easy too, just the produce codes you had to memorize and the some common sense questions.

What makes it take so long for waiters?

Actually, there is one that just opened right down the street & everytime I drive by it it looks packed. I thought about working there as a bartender, but I think my mom would be less than thrilled if she had to tell people my current place of employment. LOL.

Usually chains require menu memorization (including the ingredients), drink memorization, a couple days to learn the mechanics of waiting tables (like pivot points, when to clear the plates) & learning the company's lingo & other BS. Most are usually tested, both on paper & in role play.

My total waitress training time at Bennigans was less than a week.

Yes, Outback, and Longhorn do good business here. The Outback always has a line out the door all the time.

I remember back in the day when you were training you only got minimum wage and no tips... that was maybe 5-7 years ago , so things have changed.

I know a restaurant that has really minimal training. One of the only lines you need to know is:

Would you like fries with that?

sorry, couldn't resist. I was a fountain worker at Friendly's restaurant years ago. ugh.

Heres a thought Jeff... are they are "upscale" dining establishments around ? You know the kind with valet parking, etc... There are quite a few around here, and I know you could make some very nice money !!!

Also forgot to mention Bertucci's... our time is full of college students and they are always working there.

My first choice will be Outback, laid-back outfit & atmosphere, but the entrees are still expensive enough.

I could go back a 4 star restaurant I worked a couple years ago, but I left because I couldn't stand the head chef...the son of the owner.

I also might try Saltgrass Steakhouse, though it seems their training is a lot more anal.
