Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Cake - Seriously, any event that involves a nice cake makes me feel extra festive and celebratory. Birthday parties - Cake ✅ Weddings - Cake ✅ Pretty much anything fun - Cake ✅ Even my favorite cookies (that I've had to limit to the holiday season) are nothing more than boxed cake mix, whipped topping, and powdered sugar. I could eat an entire batch simply because they're like eating cake...which obviously makes me feel festive! Shoot...I may have just talked myself into making cake 🎂

Sparkly Clothes - I know some people see it as gaudy or too over the top, but sequins, beads and rhinestones make me feel festive and just amplify my enjoyment of celebratory occasions. I was debating about wearing a sequined dress tonight, just to make the evening more fun but (this is technically a good thing) everything is now too big for me. Of course, DD19 borrowed my silver jumpsuit and left it up in Oklahoma. Even one of my holiday tops for this year, which is plaid, has these ruffle sleeves adorned with pearls and rhinestones. I'll come up with something.

Jewelry - This is really hitting home this year because it's tied into one of my "get it done" goals I'm fulfilling (vs. procrastinating and making it a resolution). Jewelry has all kinds of feelings beyond the value and quality for pretty much all people. Of course, it can be more casual daily wear pieces or bold statement pieces that you might save for special days. Most of my fun stuff is accessible and could be worn tonight if I so choose, so that's good...but I will also put it on tonight knowing that I got the ball rolling on a trio of jewelry related projects I've been sitting on for a while. I'll spare you the novel, but by Saturday, I 'should' be able to wear a couple of my most beloved daily wear pieces after years of them sitting locked up, broken, and unwearable. They're also pieces that are bold enough to be worn for festive events as well as every day, so extra excitement there.

Amen WLWildlife about faith based days. I completely agree.

God willing me going home early in 2026 will be a day of celebration.

I am also an early bird dear PollyannaMom and not into New Years Eve parties. January 1st, day of renewed hope and new beginnings.
I pray this happens for you!
I'm not a partier for most things, but I am always greatful for another day and another year and as you stated, renewed hope and new beginnings.

Evening all and Happy New Year's Eve!

I'm not big on celebrating for NY either but there are some things I'm grateful for:

1. Party food - while I don't host a party, I love all of the different party food you can get this time of year and I often treat myself to a few to snack on (before being good and healthy kicks in again after tomorrow)

2. Fizz - I love prosecco and champagne, but it tends not to be something I drink unless for a celebration and I really enjoy it when I have it.

3.New Years Day Get together - when I was younger, New Year's Day used to be spent at my grandparents and I have such fond memories of these years, of the food and the time we spent together. Sadly my grandparents passed a number of years ago so this no longer happens, but I'm so grateful for those times.

Bacon-

Rumaki- bacon wrapped chicken livers, sometimes with a slice of water chestnut, too.

Stack-ups. This was a breakfast concoction of my mom's. It's a slice of buttered toast, several slices of bacon on that, and a fried egg on top. She'd cut down thru the stack, so every toast square had its own portion of bacon and its own bite of egg.

Candied bacon- it's that whole sweet/salty thing. Yum.

This is a hard one ……
I’m grateful to put my house back to normal put all the glitter decorations up i’d be grateful if I can get all that glitter off the floor but that ain’t happening so I’m gonna have to be grateful and accept that my floors are sparkly now and forever and always because you can’t get that glitter up it’s embedded in the floors so I now have sparkly floors and I’m learning to be grateful for that it’s a work in progress

I’ll be very grateful if we don’t get any snow it’s one of our snowy months I’ll be very grateful if it’s not cold cause it’s also one of our coldest months of the year so far this week is starting off very nicely let’s hope it continues

I’m very grateful when the month is over being in Accounting this is a brutal month
So I’m very grateful when this month is over it goes by fast because you’re so darn busy you rarely write the date January until February because you’re too busy trying to close out the previous year it’s a crazy month so I’m very grateful when it’s over that way we can start tax season yay ☹️

Happy New Year to you all

Hmmmm……..:scratchin
This is not easy, because I’m not a fan of January or February

#1 - MORE HOME TIME - We don’t do much in January since it’s cold out, so I’m grateful for more home time to do things around the house.

#2 - START A NEW PUZZLE - I never work on a puzzle during the holidays since I need my dining room table for the holidays, so I look forward to starting a new one soon. I have two here - one for Halloween and one for Christmas - decisions, decisions on which one to work on first :scratchin

#3 - THROWING AWAY HOLIDAY TREATS - From Halloween - Today I eat so poorly and therefore I feel like crap because of it. I always look forward to throwing everything away, getting back into my normal eating regiment so I can start sleeping better and not feeling so sluggish. I finally get to return to the gym on Sunday after my surgery so that will help me feel better too. Every year I ask myself….why do you do this to yourself? Every year I say I’m not doing this next year and every year I still do 🙄

Happy New Year everyone!

January is one of my least favourite months, from the weather and cold to trying to recover from all of the overindulgence in December, there's not much to like about it.

This is pretty much me right now. I'm not even enjoying the junk I'm eating like I used to yet I keep doing it. So this ^^ is definitely the only thing I'm grateful for in January!

Happy New Year, everyone with a thankful hug and prayer of faith and joy. Wishing each of you truly the best always. I so appreciate each of you.

January, especially today, is a time in a different way for me than other parts of the year of new beginnings as I already said and renewed determination I pray by my faith to go forward to and with God kindly as called.

A few friends birthdays and looking ahead to my beloved Dad's early February birthday.

January... Right now it's snowing, again, so it's challenging to be optimistic!

Travel! We do a split trip, every January before spring semester begins, staying with my sister/BIL in NOLA for 5 nights, then 4 nights in the Disney area to see friends. We leave in 6 days!

That's all I have... January leads to February leads to March; nothing good happening up here, just cold, ice, snow, COLD.

Happy New Year!!!

My dad’s birthday- He’s towards the end of the month.

High school softball- It really doesn’t get into full swing until next month but all of the preliminary stuff happens in January, including media day and we sometimes get some scrimmages before the end of the month. DD17 made captain this year, so I’m excited for her.

Clean start - January always feels very full of hope to me. It’s usually not until February that the holiday afterglow and new year renewal vibe wears off. Like right now, I’m getting ready to walk and just feel really positive 😊

Agreed! Winter came on Thanksgiving and has pretty much stayed except for 1 or 2 days. We got 6 inches in the last 24 hrs. I'm ready for summer temps and sunshine!
