Anyone in the Spring 2008 advantage progam?

Merchandise and character attendant are great roles. I have done both, and have enjoyed both. If you have any questions about them I can try to answer them.

Merchandise seems like a safe choice because you work at one of the shops which isn't too bad, but are there things that you did not like about it? I have also heard a lot of good things about the role of character attendant, but what are the worst parts about the job?

Merchandise was not too bad. I got lucky and worked in the MK in Fantasyland. But merchandise can be anywhere- a park, a resort, or DTD. The hours can vary, but I mostly closed. As for character attendant, I absolutely LOVED it. I loved getting to work at all 4 parks. I really didn't find anything bad about it (except maybe the really stupid people).

As I said I will be applying for the Spring. I keep checking the website to see if they are accepting applications yet..... I kno its not until September, but I just cant wait I am soooooo excited! :yay:

So I was thinking of a few roles to apply for.... I was wondering if people could fill me in on their expirences with these to better narrow my decision.

1) Character attendent - i've heard mostly good things of this and it sounds exciting. I would like to be in the parks so this is good i think.

2) Hotels - i was thinking maybe the front desk because i am a tourism major so i do kno a bit about that, but idk because then i wouldnt get to be in the parks and see all the little kids, i love kids!

3) operations - i thought maybe this one cause it might be fun to work the rides, i just dont want to get stuck with anything crappy

4) character performer - i really, really would like to b cinderella. i've been told that i would be good at that. but i dont want to try out and get some charcter like mickey and b in some stuffy costume all day long

any information anyone could give me would really help! I am soooo stuck with my decision. :confused3 (i just kno that i DONT want merchandise, or food cuz i could do that here at home)

I also was curious about the hours too.... i am wondering what it is that i would be working (as in like the shift, hrs, and days of week).

Thanks for the help. I greatly appreciate it!!!! :thumbsup2

Hi Everyone!
I am so excited to be applying for the Spring '08 session of the CP! I would really prefer a spring session simply because I would not be missing holiday's with my family.
As the application dates draw closer, perhaps we could try to keep each other posted with tips and such. No matter how much I read here or on the official site I still feel like I'll be going in blind. Eh, maybe I'm just a control freak.
Anyway, I'm really glad to see so many people as excited as I am and hopefully we'll all be seeing each other sometime next January.
:yay:

:cloud9: I'll be applying for the Spring program in September, so excited!!

I've already done one College Program (January - May '06, Splash Mountain Attraction Hostess) and loved it and I'm planning on applying to go again this January - May. I'd love to do the Advantage Program, but can't since I'll be taking an online class and graduating in May when I come back home. This time I'm really hoping to be in Merchandise. I worked at the Disney Store and absolutely loved retail. If not Merch, then I'm really going to hope for Vacation Planning. As much as I loved working at Splash Mountain, I don't think anything could ever top working there and if I would select Attractions for one of my three, knowing my luck I'd get it and be stuck at Dumbo. Or Dinoland USA... Not my idea of fun!

For those of you who are applying for their first time - best of luck! You'll do fine. And, if you have ANY questions about the application, the interview, or even life as a CP in general, feel free to PM me or email me - splash_trash717@yahoo.com.

Hope to see some of you down there!

Hey!
I'm thinking about doing the '08 SA....but I always get so freaked out that I won't make it and then I don't want to interview! Oh, who am I kidding? Of course I'll interview! I'm really excited!

Good luck! I just got back from my third CP, so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

you guys are wonderful, i'm Sarah by the way. It's nice to talk to someone else besides my boyfriend about this, i'm sure he's getting sick of me talking about it. i learned about the program a year ago, so i know how you feel, the anticipation is killing me, and i somethimes think i want to work for Disney when I'm out of college too.

Yeah my boyfriend is pretty sick of the Disney talk, too! Especially because his best friend and his girlfriend went last spring and are still talking about it! He actually went back again this summer. So yeah we are planning on Spring 08. I think I'll sign up for the regular program, because if I'm not mistaken they give you the option to extend for the summer which also goes along with a chance to change roles. Or so I've heard. And then I will know if I am making enough money for the summer or if I need to come home to my regular summer job to save up for going back to school next Fall. Or maybe I will just get a job at school :) Might be worth it. Although I have heard some people can be pretty frugal, and with the overtime, can come home with quite a bit of money. I may also be missing my dog too much by then. :sad1:

Oooor I might apply for one of the internships, who knows!?

See you guys there!!!

I'm planning on applying for '08 SA... I'm already so excited!! That's not good though, since if I don't make it I'll be heartbroken.

I think I would want to do character attendant, operations, hospitality, or full service f&b.
Here's wishing everyone the best of luck!

i'm kinda lost on what i want to do and what i should do lol. I'll be student teaching until Dec 7 and after that its praying to find a part-time sub pos. or being a sub and maybe getting called and maybe not, and not being able to get a job but if i did that would be some experience...

..or i could go to disney and work until may then job search for the fall. if i went to disney, id love to be like in the kids clubs at the hotels (or the private babysitting service) but for some reason that isnt listed on the roles but would be perfect for education majors. since that isnt listed id love to do the hospitality but i hear its VERY tough to get into and with my experience in ride operations and at amusment parks at home and a major in history w/elementary/early childhood cert's, i have a feeling thats where they'd stick me...ahh!!

does anyone know what the dates are for the jan-may one?? and anyone else in the same situation--staying at home hoping to get called to sub or going to wdw, not making any money but will have a more impressive resume??

I've read about a few people asking for recreation and suggesting they'd like to work in the kids' clubs. I don't know if these people actually got those roles though. Even if you asked, I'm sure it would still just be the luck of the draw. Either way, I'm sure you'd have fun.

I worked with some education majors in Pittsburgh this summer - seems like a crazy place to find a job for a teacher.

I was in AmeriCorps with KEYS Service Corps for the summer there. I don't know when they start doing applications for full year or part time members, but they do mentoring/tutoring all throughout Allegheny county. If you wanted to build up a resume I'm sure that might help too. AmeriCorps pay sort of sucks though, but you do get student loan deferment & a monetary education award to help pay off your loans.

yes PA is VERY hard to find teaching jobs, most of my friends have headed to VA, MD, or even FL to get jobs which will be me lol and thankfully I do not have any student loans b/c i had free tuition (dad worked at the college) so its kinda of like now what, wait around at home and hope to get called to sub or go to wdw and work for a few months and then look for jobs when I get home...what to do what to do!!!!

for an extended period of time i guess?? i lived an hr and 1/2 away from home during college so if i wanted to go home i could if not i stayed at school. the longest i went w/o seeing my family was prolly a month so this would be some sort of a shock but i'm sure when your down there you keep busy and meet all kinds of people so the time will fly by. my suitemate went down for a fall cp and she didnt see her parents the whole time (they didn't have the money at the time to go down to see her) and she went with 2 other college friends but i have a feeling my parents would try to pop down, even if it was just for a weekend.

I go to a community college so I live with my dad, this will be my first time away from home. I'm hoping my family will come see me at least once, but California to Florida is a long expensive trip!

Congratulations!!!! I can't believe it's already time!!!! I'm going to apply tomorrow! lol i have to calm down a little first :)

Ha, don't worry about calming down... There really is nothing to the application. Mostly it just asks your name & address, where you go to school, and previous employment. It takes all of 10 minutes if that long.

so, i guess we can't schedule a telephone interview until after they post the e-presentation? lame, i can't wait that long.
