I've read it too... However here's my thought.
The system is so disconnected from central reservation, it is possible that a person had a reservation for earlier than December but moved it. This potentially allowed them to get into the system and able to customize bands and even make FP+.
For example, in my case, I had for a few days two reservations for the same days (one actually was longer and one had four instead of five people) - both checking in on the same day (12/22). Guest services was involved in moving the room I had in the second reservation to the first one (first one was with PIN and done prior to the ticket increase - second one was GP and after ticket increase - basically by doing this I was saving about $120).
Both reservations showed up on
MDE. When Guest Services finished their work (took them a good two hours), MDE was completely messed up - had people twice under one reservation. IT eventually fixed it and MDE shows correctly now. But BOG FP+ still shows a party of 8 (many of us listed twice) instead of a party of 5 as we are now.
I also had a ConventionEars room-only reservation (Gartner). In early September, I transferred the reservation to another co-worker as I was not going (don't ask - not my choice :<). Two weeks later, I get the invitation to check in, customize bands and reserve FP+. Three weeks later, I get the invitation to schedule BOG FP+. Both of them included the name of the new person. Called and the reservation had the other co-worker's name and email. Still the emails kept coming in. Note that I never linked that reservation with my MDE - maybe I should have and I would probably have access now to customize my bands...
Basically, the systems get linked, but there's no automatic unlink. They are dis-joined...
