Anyone have experience with terrible hives or bug bites on feet? I wore sandals on Wednesday and went through a few puddles, but I’ve been wearing tennis shoes since. More and more hives/bites keep appearing and are incredibly itchy. First they were top of my feet, then the backs of my ankles, then the inside of my feet tonight. They look like my mosquito bites but I’m having a hard time I’m getting bit that many times and limited to my feet and ankles for the most part. After the itch subsided they shrink a bit but are still red. I do struggle with occasional hives so wondering if anyone else has had a similar reaction.

I’ve done many trips in the same weather in these exact shoes so I’m just stumped about the cause. Benadryl and calagel from first aid are just not doing the trick. Thanks!

The bites will get terrible itchy out of nowhere, I scratch for a few minutes, then it goes away for hours and will flare up. Shoes seem to make it worse for obvious reasons, which has definitely interrupted my trip.

Photo kind of gross, be warned.

I would add that my hives typically fade away to nothing within an hour or two, whereas these fade to slightly raised red bumps that are maybe a bit larger than the size of a pencil head, more consistent with bug bites.

Is it possible you got into some ants while wearing the sandals? Ant bites, especially fire ant bites, are very itchy and last a long time. I had just one fire ant bite on my foot once and it drove me nuts itching. Rubbing alcohol would help, but it took months to heal completely.

Are you staying in a room or did you go in someplace with carpeting? I've heard of places cleaning or treating the carpet for insects and they would hop up and bite the feet of people.

Ants are definitely a possibility, plus they’re more likely to get inside my shoes than flying bugs. Definitely no fun!

No carpet here but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s some little bug!

chiggers or scabies?
I’ve had chiggers before and it doesn’t appear to be that! I feared scabies after some initial googling but I don’t have most of the key symptoms and it has spread past my feet. I’ll definitely get checked out if it doesn’t get any better.

Sorry, but your picture doesn't look like Disney rash at all. It looks like an allergen or buy bites. The standing water you went through may have had chemicals. I had a reaction that looked like that from walking through water that was near chemically treated grass and it was runoff water. Benadryl, cold compresses, and elevate your legs. I know you said you already tried the Benadryl, but it may take a few more doses. Just try keep your feet from getting hot and avoid hot baths, that makes it worse for me!

The only times that we've gotten really bad bug bites on our feet/ankles is when camping in Florida/ anywhere in the south where chiggers are present. Hate chiggers and yellow flies.

I get random hives all over. One of the best products I have found is Cerave Hydrocortisone cream (like a topical Benadryl) or the Cerave Itch Relief Moisturizing Cream (this is the lotion in a tub). The Itch relief cream lasts about 8 hours according to the tub and I can usually get by for the full day on it. It is expensive, but worth every penny for my sanity. And a little goes a very long way.

I will have to try that! I have regular hydrocortisone and Benadryl spray but sometimes that isn’t enough. The welts are not spreading anymore and now that it’s warm enough to wear sandals I am a lot more comfortable. Thanks for the rec!

Last summer I had some crazy itchy bug bites on my feet. I thought mosquito bites at first, but these left a bump that lasted for a couple of weeks.

This is happening to me right now. Staying at WDW Coronado Springs, I walked outside barefoot in the courtyard and the next day my feet are covered in bites. Arm got bitten dozens of times through my long sleeved shirt last night at Epcot, too. Nobody else seemed to be getting bitten so I'm pretty perplexed.

Yuck, I’m sorry! I still don’t know what it was but it was just my feet, so I’m not sure if it was bugs or some chemical allergic reaction. I was pretty miserable in sneakers but wore sandals when it warmed up for my last day and it was so much better without all the rubbing. Perhaps the bugs are getting more resistant to whatever they’re spraying!

No-see-ums are the worst. You can't see them bite you, but the bites last forever and itch forever. I try hydrocortisone cream first, then Bactine.
