Anyone going Geocaching this weekend? **NEW CACHERS...POP IN!**

Sorry that I have not touched base for a while. Using the keyboard is one thing that still bothers me. My hand/arm surgery went GREAT! The physical therapist I see for it is shocked taht I have such great movement and am starting to build strength already. I am not one to stay down. Gallbladder surgery is tomorrow morning at 6 am. They agreed with me that we could wait just a few days since I have had trouble with it for 2 years.
We found a new nano Monday morning after seeing the hand surgeon. It was in a park right across the street and I beegged hubby to let me at tleast try for it. He quickly gave in and let me play. :thumbsup2 It actually only took about 2-3 minutes before I found it. He had even looked right in the same spot, but didn't spot it.
We went out yesterday and found 9! One was a cache that we had been trying to figure out for a couple weeks. Clever puzzle and hide was soooo tricky! We had been to the final area 5 times looking for it. We had one small hint that we need a screwdriver. I can't believe that we FINALLY found it! pirate:
We took my friends out again yesterday. Her husband liked what she had told him of the game and he wanted to try it. So looks like they area hooked! We spent over an hour on a new one. It had been posted days ago, and is an hour from our home but as of the time we left the house it had yet to be found. We went for it and I finally found it!!! :Pinkbounc It was one that looked like a bolt, placed in wood on an observation deck at a new park. LOL, I was so excited to find it and get my first FTF!!! :cloud9:
We also got our 100th find yesterday! So we had a great day!
Thanks all for the prayers, I am sure that it part of what has helped me heal so quickly!
Sounds like everybody has had some fun hunts. I love that log about the PO watching and he ended up being the hider! Too funny! I enjoy looking at some of the interesting hunts you all go on.

we went out today here on cape cod and we got a travel bug!! we were so excited!!

did 2 caches today now ds wants to go back out!!

Mike...Yes, ClassicRider does have a sense of humor. His are usually pretty tough. He has one out there that we used "phone-a-friend" on. :teeth: Ends up you had to sit in the middle of a set of bleachers about 5 rows up. Under the seat in front was this flat plastic container maybe an inch long and magnetized on one side. LOLOL! A small piece of paper rolled up and flattened inside it. That one has had some people come out with colorful words in the process of going batty. :lmao: Same with one of his bolts. One person said there are organizations out there to help people with a mind like his. LOLOLOL!! :lmao:

I read what you posted on the other thread. GREAT job!!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Everything sounds fine!!

Yes, I guess we've been on a pretty good roll finding caches. Usually we would find 11 in a weekend. I mean searching ALL day Saturday and Sunday! Now we find that in a couple hours each day. :woohoo: I'm finding it tougher deciding what caches to go for and what areas to visit. Didn't want to go to Virginia Beach this weekend. Stayed close to home. I'm tired of driving!! I guess the 65 mile a day drive for work does that.

lilallybean...So glad you're doing well!!!! Congratulations on the great progress all ready! :) Good luck and more prayers being sent for tomorrow's surgery. Let's hope that's it when that's all done.

Congrats on your finds!! Wooooo hooooooo!! :woohoo: And congrats on your FTF! I still don't have one of those...rats! There's too many people around this area that go out after them in the middle of the night if they have to. Not me!

kelljacques...Congrats!! TBs are fun! So your son enjoys caching. :teeth: How old is he?

lilallybean: You've had quite a time lately! The surgery went well; you got an FTF; and, you reached #100! :cool1: Hopefully, your gallbladder surgery will go just as well. Congratulations on the FTF and #100!

kelljacques: Congratulations on the TB and finding those caches! I'm sure your son will enjoy this sport.

Sandy: We didn't get out yesterday but we did get to visit our granddaughter! My DW had problems with a headache off-and-on yesterday so that limited our traveling. She couldn't even make it to church. I think you mentioned before that you have that long drive to/from work each day. Gas prices must be driving you up a wall! I'm thankful I only have to drive a few miles each way. :moped:
It sounds like ClassicRider is your version of our good buddy Fren-z. We feel like tearing our hair out with some of his! They're even tough with hints. I don't know how these guys come up with this kind of stuff. :scratchin
Now that you and DS are doing all this caching, you will have to think about paperless caching. It works great for us and we're doing it for less than $35, thanks to Ebay and the CacheMate software. We just run Pocket Queries for the caches we want and download them to the PDA. It sure beats lugging paper around.
Hopefully, your buttons will come soon, too. Ours look great! Vicky does a nice job. She also sent a FTF button so we can add it to our next new cache.
Take care fellow cachers and good caching!

lilallybean...Hope you're feeling better!!! :thumbsup2

kelljacques...Hope your son gets you out there this weekend! :sunny:

Mike... :moped: :moped: :moped: You're not kidding! LOL! Funny you put that moped in there. It was the day of your post or the previous day that I mentioned to my son that my oldest sister used to ride a moped years ago. I told him we better either move closer to work or gas prices better drop. If not, we'll be riding the :moped: !!

Glad you got to visit your granddaughter! :goodvibes And I hope your wife's headache wasn't around too long. Wow! She must have felt terrible if she missed church.

Yes, ClassicRider's caches are usually tough. NONE of them have even one hint, and most don't even tell you if it's a micro, small, regular, etc. No size listed. Ugh. I'll have to check on the Cache of Horrors. Can't remember if he listed the size on that one.

I'll have to think about paperless caching at some point. It must be neat!

Happy caching!! :magnify:

I think Fren-z doesn't usually give hints with his, either. My DW seems to be catching onto his, though! We may do a few of his today if we can get our new front porch steps in and still have some time for caching.
Hey, maybe instead of a moped you can use a Segway Human Transporter! :rotfl2: We did the tour in EPCOT with those last year and it was great! They're amazing!
We did get to see our DGD for a few hours on Tuesday. We took one of my aunts over so we got a nice long visit. She is 7 weeks old now and it seems she is beginning to recognize people and starting to smile. Since our youngest is 24, we'd forgotten all this stuff! We're really enjoying her.
Did you get your buttons? We're planning a new cache hide just so we can use our FTF button.
Paperless caching is great, especially if you do a lot of caches in one day. The $30 was an excellent investment for us. I have the data for 500 caches stored in ours and I update it every week (I think there's still room for quite a few more). It only takes a few minutes to update. We no longer have to carry sheets of paper around with us or use our printer ink.
Well, have a good weekend caching! Enjoy the warm weather! :cool1:

Mike-I would love to hear more about how to do the paperless caching. It sounds like a great way for us to go. I have so many different stacks of caches I want to hit...take this one if I head North, this one if I go to my sisters, this is for when I go to the South, this set for at my firend's. I have used so much ink and am sick of the papers being everywhere.
Is there a program I have to buy, or a site to join or what? Thanks in advance for any help!

That is such a good idea to start riding a :moped: to get around! I think I will suggest to DH that he start doing that! I need 4 wheels, but I bet he could do the 2! :thumbsup2

I am doing MUCH better. I called the arm surgeons office yesterday and got them to agree to let me take out the stitches in my hand. They were driving me crazy! So now that those are out I feel better. We even started sleeping in our own bed! I had not been able to get up the stairs or lay down. ahhhhh things are getting back to normal! Thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers!

I need some help :confused3 . I have been working on a cache for days now. Actually starting trying to figure it out after my first surgery back on the 17th. I am getting NOOOO where fast. Any of you willing to look at it and give me a hand? Any help at all would be very appreciated. This guy makes up some difficult ones. pirate: The coordinates for it are:

N 37° 50.427 W 090° 29.686

Title is The Fascist Femme Enigma Hope you all can help with it, I am about to give up on it and I hate to do that.

lilallybean: I would be more than happy to send you an article on Paperless Caching that I wrote for our local geocacher's Website. You can send me a PM or something with your email address and I will attach it. Also, I have been looking at the cache with the enigma machine; that's quite a challenge! I have it working, somewhat. For the first word, I am getting "Dijections" instead of "Directions", so I guess I don't have something quite right. I will try to remember to look at it some more, if I have time.
I'm glad to hear you're feeling well.
Good caching!

I have no idea how you have been able to get anything from that machine! I am impressed! This guys hunts are always a real challenge. We enjoy them, but dang they can sure give me a headache. I think the guy must have a very sick mind! :stir:

Hope you all are having a fun weekend! I am eager to hear about your hunts!

Wow, I just looked up the Enigma one and boy does that thing tell a story. We haven't run across anything like that before. I thought I had figured it out, but ended up with an even biger bunch of gibberish. Good Luck, I'd like to hear how that one turns out. Now to search for something like that around here - or at least in a hundred mile radius. Happy caching everyone!

Oh my...you WANT to find one like it??? hmmmmmm ok, LOL. Ya could always head to my area and help me out! HEY---you are in MISSOURI! Come on over to Farmington! :moped:

It just so happens I'm sort of a fan of Nick Danger, Third Eye, although that won't help me solve the puzzle. Back in '69, a comedy group called Firesign Theatre put out an album titled, "How Can You Be In Two Places At Once When You Aren't Anywhere At All?" (or, "All Hail Marx and Lennon", for Groucho and John, of course). Side two was a complete Nick Danger adventure called, "The Further Adventures of Nick Danger". It was performed like an old-time radio show, complete with announcer, cheesy organ and commercials. The whole thing was pretty much puns and one-liners. It is hilarious!

I am working on the enigma machine and have it working about 90%. I have one slight problem that I will try to fix asap.

Good caching!

Hello, everyone! :wave2: I feel like I've been MIA from the DIS Boards! Just been a busy week I guess.

Those are some caches you've been finding and working on! And the one with the puzzle is too much! I posted a link on our Yahoo board for all the puzzle lovers in our area. Hmmmmm...no replies or comments to it yet. Guess they need to plan a trip to Missouri first. :rotfl2:

Mike, yes, I received my buttons yesterday. They're GREAT! Vicky really does a wonderful job on them. I'll have to drop her a note and let her know that. I'll be leaving buttons all over the place. I'll even be able to leave them in the film canisters!

We went out looking yesterday for a new cache. A micro in the woods. ClassicRider's dad put it out there. There we were in the woods climbing over all kinds of downed trees from Hurricane Isabel in 1993. (Amazing to me that they don't clean this stuff up. :confused3 In FL everything is hauled out right away.) So while we're in the downed trees, who shows up but...ClassicRider!! :cheer2: :cheer2:   I forgot to mention that two previous seekers came up empty handed, so the FTF was still available! Here was ClassicRider headed in like he knew where he was going. Hmmmmmmmmm. Think he had an inside scoop? LOL! He walked straight to it and got it...along with the FTF. We weren't too far away. Geez, I probably stepped on the thing on the way in! It was a fairly small branch of a tree. CR picked it up and turned it over. There was a hole drilled into it with a film canister inside. :teeth: I've seen similar hides, and I really should have had this type thing in mind!!!!!! Aha! Any time I now see a micro in the woods, this will be the first thing I think of.

Saturday evening is a campfire at a city park nearby. We're planning on going and having a great time with other Geocachers. Several of them are camping at the park for the weekend. Should be fun! We'll see how energetic we are on Saturday morning. Campers are headed out into the park at 8 a.m. to find the caches. Last report is that there are 59 hidden there! Not all are accessible from the trails though. I think we've found all those you can drive to. And there's one you need a boat to get. We'll pass on that one for now. LOL!

Tomorrow night I'm introducing someone to Geocaching! He thinks it sounds like fun. I'm sure his three kids would love it! :) He needs a GPS so we're headed to Bass Pro Shops. Someone recently placed a cache there, and darling son and I found it a couple weeks ago. So that's the one I'm breaking him in with. :)

Happy caching! :magnify: Any fun plans for the weekend?

Sandy ~ Way to go with the micro! I guess you didn't share a FTF with CR, though. It definitely sounds like he had a "lead". It must be nice to be a PO and have "informants". :rotfl2:
We hope to get out this weekend but we're not sure again. We're redoing our front porch but we did make good progress yesterday. Now, we just have the railings to put together and install. If it doesn't rain today, like it's supposed to, we might get quite a bit done after I get home from work. I took a vacation day from work Monday so we'll have a looooong weekend. There are a couple fairly new ones in NJ that I'd like to do; both are nice hikes in nature areas and they're both pretty close to home. I'm working on a new one to put out. There's a new park in NJ called Green Acres that still seems to be pretty unknown. Guess what my theme will be! :teeth: I think I'm going to call it Goodbye City Life after one of Lisa's lines in the theme song. I just have to get moving on it before someone else realizes there's a park over there waiting for a cache!
Our D-I-L has her first substitute teaching assignment today since she became pregnant last year. So, my DW gets to babysit our DGD all day! She's really excited about that. It's the first time we've been entrusted with Erin. :thumbsup2
I guess that's it as it's time for me to head to work. TGIF!
Good caching and glad to hear your buttons arrived!

LOLOLOL!! :lmao: :lmao: CR definitely had an "informant" on that one. No, we didn't share FTF. As he was signing the log, I asked him if he's FTF. He said yes. I told him that we're now up to 392 finds and not one FTF! :rotfl2: He said I had this one. Ha ha! Nice, but no thanks. We didn't find it! Eventually I guess. LOL!

Enjoy having Monday off from work! I took off yesterday afternoon. Worked from 7:30 - 11:30 and was out! Wooo hoooo!!! Wish a working day were like that every day...with the same pay, of course.

Neat! A new park for caches! :) You better run before someone else beats you to it. ;) And the title of your cache is perfect. People will know where it is if they are familiar with the park. I'm sure those that don't will have it strike them when passing the park's sign and putting them together.  :thumbsup2

Congrats to your DIL getting back out there! And your wife will have a great time with Erin! :thumbsup2 Was it yesterday she got to have her or another day coming up?

Good luck with the porch. I hope the weather behaves so you can get that done and have some fun!

Happy caching! :magnify:

Well, it's raining pretty steady right now so the porch work is on hold. We did manage to get a couple railings in yesterday but we still have 4 to do. After that, we have some landscaping to do. My DW just left for a women's meeting at church to discuss upcoming events for the kids. If it clears up later today, we will try to work on the railings. We hope to get out for some caching either tomorrow or Monday (there is no rain forecast for either day).
My DW got to babysit Erin yesterday and she has some more possible days coming up, depending on whether our DIL gets some more substitute jobs. She is also going back part-time to her job at a uniform store so she will need some babysitting for that, too.
I took a walk around the path at the park yesterday and the place is so new that there isn't really anywhere to hide a regular sized cache yet. Maybe after they do some more landscaping......
Hopefully, you will get that FTF soon! We have 14 or so but we only have around 225 finds total. You're beating us in that department!
Good caching!

Sounds like you all have been busy! My DH pointed out to me that if our oldest has a baby at the same age that we did, we could be Grandparents in less than 6 years!!! :faint:That just CAN'T be right! I am going back to work on 'light duty' April 18th. I was getting really bored just sitting around here, and I was looking forward to going back towork...but now that I feel better I wouldn't mind a few more weeks off to play. Ohhh well. I had a call from a fellow cacher yesterday...she works with me. The administration at our facility ( I work at a state mental hospital) found at there was a cache hidden on the grounds of the cemetary. It is public property and according to the placer he had permission to place it. Anyway...the big wigs were not pleased about it being there and removed it. I emailed the placer and let him know. I hate that it is gone, that was our very first find.
I am taking my MIL out for the first time today. She has heard all of us talking about hunting long enough and now wants to give it a try. We are going to 3 that I have done already...I know where they are, and that they are not to big of a challenge. The kids have not done these yet so they can have fun with it.
Hope you all can get some hunting done today. Have a great weekend! pirate:

Hmmm, Hi!
I came in here looking for a thread on geocaching... but this thread has gotten so
:offtopic: (I've always wanted to use that one!)
it looks like work to catch up with what is currently being talked about. :rotfl:

Anyway - I've had my GPS since christmas '04 and we found our FIRST Geocache last week. (silly, but what a thrill!) It even had a travel bug which I took and am now REQUIRED to find another geocache move him along to. Our previous attempts were comedies with taking down the wrong coordinates etc. I really have to learn to program this thing... I'm a programmer too but it's the lack of a keyboard that stops me.

I'll be back trying to catch up on the topic at hand - this looks like a thread to subscribe to! :cheer2:

we need to place a travel bug tomorrow!!
