O Christmas Tree

Christmas has come to my house. At least....on the inside...

1202ChrismasHome017.jpg

My tree has also gone up for this year.

1202ChrismasHome039.jpg

I have one that has a musical theme. I've been collecting musical decorations for way too many years now.

Over the years, I've even found Disney ones to fit in the theme. This is one of my favourites....Mickey and Minnie carolling.

1202ChrismasHome030.jpg

I like to think that this is the Magician's Hat from Fantasia, with all that glorious classical music.

1202ChrismasHome031.jpg

(Yes, I do know it's the Hat from DHS! :p)

I even found Donald and Pluto jingle dangles and as they make a musical noise (other than quack and woof), it fits!

1202ChrismasHome032.jpg

Another favourite....although I have to draw a rather long bow for this one. I like to think of this as the First Noel.

1202ChrismasHome033.jpg

DH is responsible for the outside lights. With the workload he's under, I don't hold out any hope of them going up this year...and I'm not going to nag him about it either. It certainly won't kill me if they aren't up this year.

Here's to a stress-free Christmas preparation month!

I think I remember reading about your music themed Christmas tree last year - I love it :goodvibes I really wish mine had a theme but I've got too many different themed ornaments that are special to me now! Having said that, our tree isn't even up yet...

I'm with you on the lights. Sure they look pretty, but on the list of priorities in life, nobody's going to care if they're down the bottom.

Your tree is beautiful! I love the Disney ornaments :goodvibes

We have several Disney ones on our tree. I can't wait until we can get our 2013 ornament at DTD.

Bollywood Christmas

This weekend, we celebrated Christmas….company style.

Based on the previous posts, I think we all agree that the company that I work for knows how to treat us employees right….and Christmas is the one time of year where we all come together and celebrate the year that has gone and look forward to the year to come. The theme for this year’s party was Bollywood.

DH and I made some effort towards the theme.

The function was held at the Palladium ballroom at the only casino complex in town. It seemed appropriate that one of the colours on display was DisLime Green.

1215BollywoodXmas032.jpg

1215BollywoodXmas033.jpg

The place had been appropriately decked out.

1215BollywoodXmas036.jpg

During the course of the night, we were all encouraged up on the dance floor.

1215BollywoodXmas042.jpg

Where we were given a lesson in how to screw in a lightbulb, raise the roof, pat the dog and the like.

1215BollywoodXmas153.jpg

1215BollywoodXmas147.jpg

It had been a great night all round! Loud…..but great!

Food?

The food at these functions is usually fantastic. Tonight was no exception…..for the carnivorous set.

On arrival and before we were allowed to enter the ballroom, there was finger food on offer.

1215BollywoodXmas017.jpg

1215BollywoodXmas018.jpg

I got the cold plates on the table……but there was no way I was able to capture the hot platters that were being circulated round by the waiters/waitresses. Despite the Bollywood theme, the finger food was more of the Chinese Asian kind. Nevertheless, it was all delicious!

The lovely Bollywood colours that was projected and added so much ambience to the Ballroom was a killer for food porn. Everything after this will have either a green or pink tinge to it. The menu for the night.

1215BollywoodXmas047.jpg

This cold starter plate was rather tasty. The cucumber/yoghurt base was in keeping with the theme and everyone on my table enjoyed it.

The pesky vegetarian version was also rather tasty, according to DH.

1215BollywoodXmas057.jpg

The lamb was rather popular with the boys.

1215BollywoodXmas076.jpg

I preferred, and got, the chicken. Beautifully done and delightfully succulent and tender.

1215BollywoodXmas078.jpg

The pesky vegetarian dish bombed! That is a rather dense potato dauphinoise. It was too heavy and didn’t really work as a main meal, in my opinion. DH didn’t finish it.

1215BollywoodXmas072.jpg

Dessert came out on platters for self-selection.

1215BollywoodXmas111.jpg

The passionfruit tart was the highlight of the platter for me. The passionfruit tang worked really well with the crumbly casing.

1215BollywoodXmas113.jpg

1215BollywoodXmas118.jpg

The mango mousse was lovely and light. But I don’t think that was fresh mango on the top.

1215BollywoodXmas115.jpg

1215BollywoodXmas117.jpg

The fruit tart was more appropriately called the blueberry tart. Adequate; but not remarkable.

1215BollywoodXmas112.jpg

1215BollywoodXmas120.jpg

The hazelnut chocolate mousse was tasty; but it didn’t quite pack enough of a chocolate punch for me.

1215BollywoodXmas124.jpg

Sadly, neither DH nor I wanted any of the gulab jamun.

Coffee came with cookies and pralines. However, as DH and I were tripping the light fantastic, I missed the shot of the plate of cookies and pralines.

All in all, another decent function by my company.

I can't believe it I made an update! You two look fantastic! Food looks good. Looks like you had a great time!

While some of the the things may have been hit or miss, you have the BEST company parties that I have EVER seen or heard about. Back in the day my company did a luncheon and since we were in the entertainment industry we used to provide the entertainment. When I first started at the company we did it in the lunchroom with pizza, eventually they moved to a hotel ballroom with sandwich platters.

My last year or so it became an evening party at one of the owner's country clubs, but evidently this was out of the norm because of past bad experiences with night parties and alchohol Your parties always look like lovely experiences where they have not only planned for some pretty decent food, but also decorations and entertainment. How lovely for you and your company!

I think I have said this before but my company USED to have parties but nothing like this.... But the parties are all gone now...

Everything looks fantastic, what a great company to treat its employees to a wonderful party...

I can't believe you made an update too! Yes, we had a great time.

Your company knows how to throw a decent party PIO :goodvibes

::yes::

Believe me....my colleagues and I really appreciate the functions and the food that the company puts on.

Yes, I do love working for this company.

Very nice pic of the two of you at the party.:thumbsup2

Thanks Angela.

Sorry you have to work on Christmas. Who's looking after your DS?

If it’s December, it must be another Birthday!

December is my crazy month.

Aside from all the Christmas madness and preparation and holiday period, I have the pleasure of having 5 members of my family celebrate birthdays in December. Both my brothers, my MiL and two first cousins have all conspired to tip me to that balancing point of present shopping and gift giving and girth spreading that so mark this month. I do not know what is so auspicious about March….maybe it’s the March Hare…er…rabbit…that is to blame.

There was nothing particularly porn-worthy for some of the celebrations that have already passed; but last night’s dinner was one that I did capture and think to share with you.

One of my first cousins decided that it was time to have a family get-together and as it was her birthday, we were all happy to help her celebrate it in whatever style she wanted to.

Her choice was a Chinese Banquet dinner and here’s what was on the menu.

Wasabi Shrimp. It was so tasty even though you could hardly taste any wasabi.

1222CuzBirthday004.jpg

Silken Tofu. It was nicely flavoured but I didn’t really care for this dish.
1222CuzBirthday005.jpg

Beef with special sauce. The beef was perfectly tender; the sauce? Nice but not so special.

1222CuzBirthday007.jpg

Greens – so easy to eat.

1222CuzBirthday008.jpg

Vegetarian fried noodles for the pesky-vegetarians in our party.

1222CuzBirthday009.jpg

Fried chicken. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the batter was crunchy. But for some reason, the batter left a floury taste in the mouth. Not unpleasant – but not what anyone expected.

1222CuzBirthday010.jpg

Fried rice.

1222CuzBirthday013.jpg

And the extra special fried rice. This one used glutinous rice instead of the regular short grain rice.

1222CuzBirthday017.jpg

Deep fried fish. It was lovely…but really, one too many deep-fried dishes for me.

1222CuzBirthday015.jpg

The scallop is underneath the crab paste topped with fish eggs. This was the dish of the meal for me.

1222CuzBirthday018.jpg

We finished up with a plate of fruit and a birthday cake. It’s been over 16 hours since the dinner and I am STILL in a food coma.

You have all the December birthdays and we have all the January ones. I guess my family went with the April showers.
