Anyone Game? 2 Castles and a Road Trip TR! Last Day and TR Wrap Up! #2796; 10/01

Loved this update. Great to see inside Yak and Yeti I always wondered what it was like looks very nice! I am scared of that staircase though I trust they wouldn't lead me in that direction lol. Love sweet n sour!

Photos of animals amazing! Thank you so much for sharing. So glad to read boys joined you and DH feeling better! That tuna looked good and mahi mahi one of my fav too. I'll have all three please!

Not to worry about the steps! There is an elevator for those who need it. Back in '09 we went there for a late lunch and I requested an upstairs table near the window so my parents could see the parade. My father uses a cane, and moves very slowly, so he took the elevator!

FWIW, our cat DOES do water.

And it wasn't even hot this day, it was in the middle of winter :rotfl:

I've never seen photos of the inside of Yak & Yeti before. It actually really reminds me of a Nepalese restaurant we used to visit! The food on the other hand, doesn't really... Looks yummy though.

I love how AK is like a theme park in a zoo :goodvibes Great photos of the animals. I'm pretty sure I'll find it a tough choice between that and MK as my favourite park when I finally get to WDW.

Great picture of your cat in water!
Our previous cat did water too; not quite in that way but it used to love the bath.

The Yak and Yeti name is based on a Himalayan hotel.

I like AK. Many people think it's not quite a full day park; I'm not really sure why. There are heaps of animals to go-see and enjoy.

And are you starting to think about a WDW holiday yet??

Yak and Yeti looks like a fabulous restaurant. I loved your view and the food looked great to. I have only ever tried their quick service location.

I love the tiger photos. I am glad that the guys felt up to going for a walk.

Corinna

We have tried the QS before. The sweet and sour isn't too bad from the QS. But I like the air conditioning better. :rotfl:

Thanks.

My favorite section of AK the trails for Shere Khan

Is it? I didn't know that.

DH and I love big cats. We were always going to find Shere Khan.

We love Yak and Yeti as well. The fried wonton dessert is to die for! You can use Landry gift cards to pay there. Cute pics of the tiger!

I think I'm beginning to see the benefits of Landry gift cards. We do seem to eat at a few of their establishments when we are in the US.
We didn't get the fried wontons this trip. :(
Maybe next time.

What a great update!

Y & Y is scrumptious, I second the fried Wonton dessert popcorn::

You got some fabulous animal shots! Too cool about the tiger in the water. I take it you're a Mentalist fan?

I could watch the bats for ages, I think they're so cute.

A Mentalist fan? Do you mean the William Blake poetry?

We have flying foxes in Melbourne. They roost near where my younger brother lives. Sometimes when we visit him, I go look at them sleeping during the day.

The Yak and Yeti restaurant looks very nice as well as the food. Unfortunately, not too many of my party members like AK and they might reconsider it one day by trying the restaurants.

Your animal pictures look very nice.

That's a shame about your family members. You might need to go by yourself next time. But Y&Y is a good restaurant to eat at.

Glad you liked the pictures. Thank you.

Lunch on this day was great. It certainly made up for the snack-y breakfast we had.

I think I did see that elevator. Is it near the restrooms on the ground floor? Glad your father got a good spot for the parade!

And are you starting to think about a WDW holiday yet??

I'm always thinking about it :rotfl:

Our 2015 and 2016 travel calendars are already full though.

If my legs hold up well enough after the 10k I'll be tempted to go for a Coast to Coast medal. Maybe for my 35th birthday or something. That will give me 4 years to save. And train :lmao:

I took a 6-day vacay recently. The destination was the Blue Mountains and Sydney...and it was a very low-key vacation. I only came home with about 2000 pictures or so; give or take 500.

For anyone interested, I finally bit the bullet and decided to start a TR. The link to the TR is here.

Hope to see some of you there!

Beautiful pics PIO. I love the pics from your own safari trip. There is a small zoo about 15 miles from me and I have not been there in a very long time.

Been busy for me. Home with mom today catching up on things. Mom was in hospital over the weekend. Great way to celebrate her 76th birthday.

Oops, I guess incorrectly. I've only heard that poem on a show called the Mentalist.

Y&Y is great although I haven't eaten there for a long time. The wontons are awesome.

Headed over to your Aussie report.

2017 is your first opportunity? :faint:

Ah well....lots of planning time. :thumbsup2

Hope your Mom is feeling better. That's not a great way to celebrate a birthday. Keep well. :goodvibes

Ah. That's not a show that I watch but I believe it's very good.

I've been checking out the wonton recipes. Might need to see if I can make something similar here.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

We have only done the Y&Y counter service and we really enjoyed it, especially the sweet and sour chicken:thumbsup2 But your plate looks delicious as well! And so does the ahi.

I don't think we made it on that trail this last trip. We're definitely doing it in January for sure! DS would love it I think :cool1:

Tigers good. Birds good. Dragons not good. Bats bad! :faint: Bats freak me out.

Lunch looks good and nice view. :thumbsup2 I am kind of a view junkie too.

I'm finally caught up on the last 16 pages. The Slumber Safari looked awesome and you had some amazing shots. I enjoyed the Lion King show at AK too and will miss it terribly.

I'm pretty sure that your DS would love that trail. That's the good thing about AK. There are a couple of really great trails to meander through and enjoy the animals.

Hope you make it to Y&Y on your next trip.

I'll try and remember to make sure I put out any warnings about bats for you. :flower3:

I love views too.

Thanks Angela. Hope you're feeling better now.

We had a great time at the Slumber Safari. The Lion King is coming back to the Melbourne theatres. It's been playing in Sydney and we expect it will hit our theatres next year. I'm planning to go see it. :thumbsup2

And hopefully they'll have FP+ and the magic band issues well and truly sorted out by then :rolleyes2

We can only live in hope. :goodvibes

Birds, birds, birds

We were going to be doing a lot of sitting activities today. The 2 pm show was next on our list.

It was a choice between the Finding Nemo show or the Birds, birds, birds.

DS decided he preferred the birds. It was a tough choice for me....much as I enjoy musicals, I haven't really warmed to the Finding Nemo show and I really like the conservation messages of Flights of Wonder. So, I left the decision with the boys.

Someday in the not too distant future, I suspect DS will prefer the two-legged varieties; rather than winged.

There was something strangely familiar about the first bird on stage.

*sigh*

I've come over 9000 miles to watch an Australian Yellow-crested Cockatoo perform.

The Australian connection didn't stop there. Next up was the Rose-Breasted Galah.

It was time for a change in bird varieties!

It's been a while since I've enjoyed the show and I completely forgot about the volunteer audience participation service. I wish I had jumped out of my seat a lot sooner. They were asking for someone with a big camera first and that lady beat me to it.

I wonder what the frontal view of the Owl would have been like?

I had to settle for this view instead.

Anyone know what species of bird this is? I was too busy snapping to pay attention. I can't remember if the animal handler said it was a buzzard or a vulture or something else?

The Harris Hawk was next.

I really do love raptor birds. I prefer them in the wild, but I have to admit that bird shows like these are super attractive to me as I get to see them up-close.

In between the conservation messages, you'll find that this is a pretty entertaining show. There is comic relief.

Guano Bob does pop up from time to time with his bird phobia. Here he is with his beautiful Crowned Crane friend.

For me, the highlight of the show is the American Bald-headed Eagle.

Such a majestic bird! I'm so glad this bird is off the endangered species list.

The parrots and macaws do provide wonderful splashes of colour to this show.

And at the end, they bring some of the birds out for a close-up. I finally did get that full-frontal view of the owls.

Cooling Off with Another Drenching

It was a pretty hot and humid afternoon and it was time for a cool-off.

I had claimed a FP- earlier in the day in anticipation of us needing to get drenched. This was the second FP- I had pulled all well. Just as well. Stand-by was 70 minutes.

This time, DH got complete drenched. I got pretty wet and DS was only moderately wet.

Kali is always a fun ride and it was a great way to cool off for the afternoon.

I took the opportunity to wander around some of the vantage points whilst we were drip-drying a bit.

Always fun watching people having fun.

Cooling Off with Another Snacking

Aside from heading to go see FotLK, I don't think we left the Asia section this day. Even for snacking, we stayed pretty close to this continent.

After Kali, we were super thirsty. We got us a strawberry slushie.

And the super delicious mango version.

I was super tempted to get me one of these babies; but I knew what we had in store for us at dinner time.

But before dinner.....I had spent the better part of today nursing the boys all the way at AK to making it through the day for my favourite daytime parade at WDW.

I found us a shady spot for more sitting. It's time for my reward!

Great update PIO! I can't hear raptor birds without thinking about Jurassic Park... :-) wonderful pictures of our flying friends thank you. It's such an amazing thing to see the American Eagle!

I lost a good cap on the Kali rapids lol. Soaked my shorts and had to buy new ones to replace them :-) they are now my favourite shorts. Make me laugh every time.

Very nice pictures of the birds from Flights of Wonder. I have never been to that show since there is something similar to this show but without the exotic birds at AK.

I knew that you will be going on KRR that day since DS really loves wet rides. It was good that you had FP+ so you wouldn't have to be in that long standby queue.

What a beautiful and different bird that is, the one you weren't sure vulture or buzzard I have no idea either would be nice to know Ah, our eagle what a majestic bird that is and yes so glad no longer endangered Love the picture of the owl, looks young based solely on the feathers. The first owl. Did they say ?

Looking forward to the AK parade pictures; especially since it is now part of history. So sad.
