Anyone ever use Mobile Magic?

I just DL'd it and it's so CUTE! It's helping me play and pass the time until our trip ;) Can someone tell me where it says the FP return time? I saw that some rides listed whether or not FPs were still available, but didn't list a return time (or do you have to be in the park for that to work?) Thanks!!!

Yep, you have to be in the park.

Will you be charged for using the app (Besides the 9.99)? Since the app only works on non-smartphones I would assume most of these people would not have a data plan. So, if you do not have a data plan are you charged for using the app? I do not want to get a surprise bill!

Thanks!

I was worried about that too so I went to their FAQ and it says you will only be charged the $9.99 and there is not an additional charge, airtime, data rates, etc... Can anyone who's been using the app confirm? :)

Yes, I paid only the $9.99.

I think this is a different app from Mobile Magic.

Mobile Magic will only give you specific wait times, FP times, etc. if you are actually within the park you are looking at. However, these are the most accurate times because they come right from the computers at Disney (beyond any update delays). Less specific info is available outside the parks. It is only available on non-smartphone Verizon phones though.

Other apps generally depend on user input, so its only as accurate as that input. However, the Touring Plans "Lines" app (which requires a subscription) uses statistical models in conjunction with input that has generally shown to be very accurate.

I have the mobile magic app for my verizon phone. Paid $9.99 for 6 months.

I have had it for the last 2 weeks and leave next week. I have been checking the wait times for the busy rides.

It does not give specific times.

It says moderate, high demand, or see now as for the wait times and tells you if there are fast passes available. It says not available, limited availability or available.

Also we enjoyed the Disney Trivia while waiting in line!

I know using it at home right now it says wait times are moderate, see now, or high demand. When you are actually in the park does it give you an actual wait time in minutes (or hours :rolleyes1) or does it still just use see now, moderate, and high demand? Thanks and sorry for asking so many questions. I'm excited!!!

Oh, and thanks g-dad66 for answering about the charges :goodvibes

Hi-when you are checking on rides that are located in the park that you are visiting, the wait times are listed in minutes (and the FP give you the return times). It is the same info that you see when you actually walk up to a rides entrance. Hope this helps. I forgot about the Disney Trivia that another poster mentioned...we enjoyed this too, especially while on the bus!

Yes, it does -- except not always during morning EMH, we discovered.

Yes, I paid only the $9.99.

just so I am 100% clear you don't have a data plan and you weren't charged for any megabytes or internet time?

I saw this on the Disney page about the Disney app and want to be sure.

Message and data rates may apply. Upon purchasing Mobile Magic, you will be charged $9.99 on your Verizon Wireless phone bill and have access for 180 days.

TIA

Bill

Just used the app yesterday at Epcot:

I was lucky because they are doing testing on the application. Under Spaceship Earth a woman asked me which cell phone provider I use, when I said Verizon she went into a whole spiel about the application and asked if I'd like to test it for the day. They provided the phone and we just had to turn it in before we left.

I was already familiar with the app and had no trouble using it. As a frequent park visitor I did not use it very much, but it was nice for character set times and attraction wait times. When leaving an attraction, I quickly checked wait times of the nearby attractions to determine which way to go, as well as when to stop by for a FP based on the times.

We tried it once to find nearby restrooms (which I already knew), but the navigation was a little difficult to follow so we didn't use that feature again.

The Disney Trivia game was fun - but it was specific to Epcot which I do not know much about. The character match game is identical to the one inside the Disney Animation Building.

Correct.

I have read that there can be a small data charge for the downloading of the Mobile Magic application itself, but I didn't notice one on my bill.

:) a lot of good information on this page!!!

I downloaded it and never went to the mobile magic website till I found it on here!!! I also have the unlimited data plan.. so I should be all set. Can't wait to really get to use it!!!:thumbsup2

We have been using it for the past couple of weeks. We have the 9.99 a month data plan. It is 25 megs/month; we've used 7.5 megs and that includes occasional emails, facebook and so on.

The fast pass return times have been 100% spot on, down to the minute. The attraction wait times have been 100% accurate with what is posted on the attraction.

The restaurant part hasn't been used much by us, because we know that, but we did use it once out of curiosity. It clicks you to a link that dials of disney dining where we made a reservation. Maybe now that disney.com has all the menus of the restaurants on line they will put those on it also.

The daily information like park hours and show times are handy to have. It shows you the next show time rather than all the show times which is a bit of a drawback.

The characters. OK. It didn't know anything about the star wars characters the last few weekends. Fine. But it didn't even the fact that Mickey-Donald-Goofy-Minnie were there. In fact, it told us that Donald wasn't there even though we'd seen him not only at the star wars line but earlier that day (um, I guess he ran back and changed his outfit) at the animation building. If you were a typical tourist and you had a kid who wanted to see Donald wouldn't you want to know that he is right over there in a storm trooper suit? Also at the studios, there has been several times that there were extra characters at the animation building that it didn't know about. Also, one day it said some characters were at the BAH when they were inside the animation building. One day we also saw pooh, tigger, rafiki, wendell, and liverlips at DAK at the GTGS and it didn't know about those. Basically, for characters it doesn't seem to get much more information that what is printed on the paper guides, which is disappointing, because the whole point of the thing is that it should have up to date information that could be updated on the fly. If I wanted a piece of paper I can pick one of those up, you know? Another little example, one day at MK it said Lady Tremaine was at fantasyland gardens when she was actually up by where pooh's playground used to be.

My wife isn't a big fan of it at this point, I kind of like it. Also, some of the trivia questions are incorrect. I think it is worth the 10$, wish it wasn't such a closed system.

Here are some examples of characters it didn't list as present:

There is a lot of criticism over the character times, but that is a real tough problem for them to solve. It only mentioned regularly scheduled characters. Many of them are not necessarily scheduled though, and they rotate fairly flexibly for breaks, etc.

Star Wars Weekends has its own schedule of characters, and even that is flexible.

They should put some sort of GPS tracking device on all the characters so it would automatically update everyone's Mobile Magic by satellite :rotfl:

We have used Mobile Magic on two different trips. It is $10.00 for 6 months.

The wait times are 100% accurate, and we thought it was worth having, even though the navigation is a bit clunky, and I always have trouble reading the display in bright sunlight.

I find it hard to view in direct sun, but i've gotten used to it.

I've found it now on 2 instances, the times are off. a few weeks ago I used it and on one ride it was 5 minutes off for the standby. Not a big deal.

I went last Wednesday and it was failry on, except once. I was in line for Peter Pan and I looked at IASM and the wait on the actual ride said 5 minutes. MM said 20 minutes, but there was no queue at all down to at last part of the ramp.

While still in line, it got longer but the Ride display still kept showing 5 minutes and MM still said 20 minutes.

The only other thing that annoyed me was my phone kept not gettign found. I got the location not found on a few instances and it was annoying. I may call VZw and whine and ask to get the charge refunded....

I wouldn't say we used it a lot, but it came in handy a couple of times when checking out Standby Line wait-times.

On a very busy day in Epcot, we planned to do Spaceship Earth and The Seas with Nemo & Friends after World Showcase. But Mobile Magic showed that both Spaceship and Seas had 40 minute wait times! So we visited Club Cool and did Ellen's Energy Adventure first.

And in Magic Kingdom, when I checked Buzz and saw it had a 35-minute wait time, I grabbed Fast Passes, which I hadn't planned to do.

This last week I was going to hit PP to get a FP for my DD. Then walk over to BTM for an expected short SB time. I checked MM and the FP for PP was 2 hours later and for BTM was only an hour later. The SB line was 35 for PP and 60 for BTM.. so I diverted and got a BTM FP instead and waited in line for PP.

As was said.. if you arne't in the parks, you won't see the wait times.

I think the idea of doing this is going to be MM's biggest advantage. If you are going to standby one and FP another, you'll be able to make a logical choice.

As for accuracy, there can be times where updates aren't working just like with any such system. It would be nice if they told you when it was last updated though.

5 minutes off wouldn't be that unusual, especially if the time recently changed at the attraction.

To a PP who mentioned basing wait time on where the line ends - you can't necessarily use that as any indication. most lines are reconfigurable so a line at BTM all the way out to the ramp up could be 60-90 minutes, or it could be 15, depending on how much of the "inside" queue they are using.
