Hello! Well this morning we were on our way to AK and the sheriff was pulling people over left and right. There were 2 officers just standing there outside their cars pointing people to pull over. We got pulled over along with 5 other cars and when we left there were 4 others being pulled over. Seems the speed limit changes from 50 to 35 and none of us noticed. We think this must be a great way for the city to make money since they know the tourists can't do traffic school or come back and fight the tix. Just wondering if anyone has been able to successfully fight one of these from out of state? It is $77 so not a big fine, but the raise in insurance premiums are what worries us. Thanks for any info!

Not quite the same, but DH got a ticket on the Kansas turnpike. He pleaded "no contest" and paid the fine, but our insurance never found out about it. Maybe the Kansas troopers don't chat much with the Texas insurance agents! :teeth:

just do not sign the ticket, I got a speeding ticket...not on WDW property, but it was in FL, and I just pais it, and never signed the ticket, and it never went on my license and my insurance never found out. :)

Tyler just posted a warning about the new enforcement program a week or so ago; they are definitely cracking down.

Here's a thought, read the signs and obey them! What's the rush? the 30 sec. you might save?

I would think your life is a better option.

Don't bother to debate it. On Disney, That's the most time you can save.

Maybe not yet!! Poor advice, my friend.

But the tourists and all drivers should be able to read signs
It is YOUR responsiblity to see and follow speed limits.....

So deal with it.

Signing the ticket has nothing to do with it appearing on your record. It is just that the computer systems between the states don't always talk to each other. When you pay, you are admitting guilt.

That was back in 1999....if they haven't found out yet, I don't think they will...if you do not sign the ticket you are not admitting to the crime, just pay it and it won't count against you.

Well, that's nice. I hope you have learned how to drive since then as well.

Point being, speed laws are for a reason...whether anyone agrees or not, they are what they are.

I agree...no sympathy for anyone who gets a legitimate speeding ticket! I know there are sometimes bogus tourist traps (not sure about FL, but I got one in Ohio when both my husband and I knew full well that I was going the limit...we later learned it was an infamous tourist money-maker). But if you were really speeding and got a ticket, take it as a lesson, pay attention to the signs, and follow what they say. We drive in Celebration a lot, where the limit is 25, and half the time I'm afraid that the person behind me is going to push me!

Couple of weeks ago DH and I were just talking about how we never saw a police car on disney property during the 7 days we were there. Guess they were saving up their strength to bust all you guys after we left!

Little off topic- but has anyone else from the northern states noticed how slowly
everyone in FL drives. Not on side streets only, but the freeway too? Up here in MI, if you're doing the speed limit on the freeway(55mph, 70mph in some places) you'll be run off the road. Maybe the sun makes everyone a little more laid back.

Well not much is different here. I4 is a mess, not uncommon to find the common speed at 65+ in a 55 zone.

40,000+ Americans dead per year, due to car accidents, pretty sad. But we blame it on everything except the DRIVERS....

If your ticket was in 1999 the computers were NOT talking to each other. Interaction between state computer systems has been on the upgrade since 9/11.

Well from a legal standpoint you cannot fight the ticket, i understand things happen, but not being aware of the speed limit is not a defense, i completely understand what you mean, when i drove on 528 i had no idea what the speed limit was, when i was on the streets i had no idea, where i live and in my state, there are signs everywhere i cannot assume, if you want to be safe, i would call 911 and ask them what the speed limit is, this would be a last resort, but it will save stress and fees and premiums, now let's all play nice, everyone is entitled to post a question and not get jumped on about it, this is how we learn

Actually in most states the speed limit is 55 unless other posted. If you can literally show there wasn't a single sign (highly unlikely) you have a case.

Lewis,
I am pretty sure the 55 rule only applies to highways which Disney doesn't have. In Nashville we have a "default" road speed limit. (Can't recall what it is, but I know it is not 55)

We're not required to "guess" a speed limit, there has to be signs. If you can literally show you didn't pass any speed limit signs you have a valid defense.

The point is moot, there are always plenty of signs, we're just driving to fast to see them.

Here in PA, I believe the default is 25 in residential areas, 35 in non-residential and 55 on limited access highways.

This post caught my eye since we were in Disney 2 weeks ago just for an evening, visiting relatives and this was the first time we ever actually drove our own car on Disney property (we used to fly in and have a towncar drive to and fro and used Disney buses the rest of the time) and I made a comment to my husband how crazy they drive there and considering the roads are confusing at times...that is not the place for speeding, especially with all the tourists.

As for the "how slow they drive in Florida"...well we have been here for a total of 6 months now and give my NYC driving any time!!! People love to speed, don't use their signals (in fact if you put your signal on to change lanes people speed up so you can't), tailgate (which in my opinion doing 70 tailgating a truck is begging for an accident) every day in the morning and evening news all they talk about is the accidents and how some poor family has now lost their mother, father, son, daughter, etc. I say if the speed limit is 70, that is good enough for me, don't need to do 90!
