Anyone ever get a speeding ticket on Disney property?

I didn't attack you I "voiced my thoughts". If you took that as an attack then I apologize. The op wrote " Seems the speed limit changes from 50 to 35 and none of us noticed". The op did not state that there weren't signs posted. Its not a matter of what " I believe". It is a matter of what the law states. As you have tried these cases before, I have testified in many of these case before. A speed limit sign has got to be posted somewhere. And if you don't testify to where that sign is any good lawyer, and I'm not saying you aren't a good lawyer, would be able to win that case. Speed limits change through out some states. As you travel on I-95 the speed limit can go from 65 to 55 in the same state. I can be wrong but I think some places it even goes to 70. When that speed limit changes there has got to be a sign. People can't be expected to know where the changes take place.

lol- no not attacking me and not necessarily you i mean just peoples comments toward each other, you do not need to apologize, i appreciate people who are direct with their words, i just wish everyone would not attack like, spped limits are there for a reason, we all know that and the op is not discussing there being a speed limit, the issue was not knowing what it was
crzy4dsny u and i are fine we have no problems,

Ok first of all I did not ask for anyone's sympathy. Second of all there was a sign, but a Disney bus flew past us right before we all got pulled over so explain why they get to go faster? Also, the officers were standing 75 feet from where the sign was, radaring people as they approached the sign, not allowing anyone time to even slow to 35mph. We found out we can just pay $73 and take traffic school online and that is what we plan to do. Didn't ask for a driving lesson or a lecture on safety. I commend all of you that go exactly the speed limit all of the time instead of the whopping 9 mph over we clocked at and we got a ticket for. Sorry to cause the heated debate - I forgot everyone on here was perfect.

Don't be sorry... I'm glad that you posted this on here. Hopefully it will help other folks realize that they should pay attention to signs, and not have this unfortunate event happen to them. None of us are perfect... that's what makes the world interesting :)

In regards to the Disney bus... they are no exception to the law. They can, will, and have been pulled over.

Where I live calling 911 for a nonemergency will result in a fine. So if you do it you better call from a pay phone.

I'm glad they are finally writing more tickets on property. I enjoy the wildlife too much to see morons doing 70+ on world drive. I saw a mother duck get hit by a car and the babies just stood around not knowing what to do (I called AK, and they sent someone).

I don't know where the speed limit drops going to AK, or how clearly it's marked, but I do know that there are signs when the speed drops going to MK. One poster said that they didn't see signs on 417--I drive it every week, and there are plenty of 65 mph signs.

Signing a ticket is not an admission of guilt.

Finally--911 operators are not there to answer your questions. They are dispatchers who listen to what your emergency is and route your call to the proper responders. THAT IS ALL! If you have quesions about speed limits, or want to report speeders, agressive drivers, etc. dial *FHP. That number was set up by the Florida Highway Patrol for that purpose.

I'm glad I got that out of my system :earsboy:

Can you help me with my question. We arrived on Orlando on Christmas Day and travelled with map to our hotel. The first toll road we came to was exact change and unmanned. We only had dollar notes! I had seen the signs of automatic $100 fine for jumping toll booth. We sat at the booth, not knowing what to do. Couldn't reverse back, couldn't pay by any other means, had first row of the holiday!!! With no one coming up behind us to plead for change, we had no option but go go through - you guessed it bells going off etc etc. On our way back to the airport at the end of the holiday, we explained at a toll booth what had happened on the way in and she gave us a card to ring a toll free number. My husband did this at the airport and the guy said 'thank you for letting us know, Sir - Have a Nice Day'. He didn't take his name of plate no.

We have kept the card and a note the guys name, but I have visions that wen we arrive back in the States this year my husband will be carted off at immigration for non payment of a 50 cents toll road!

Anyone else had a similar experience?

thanks

That's good to know. I knew about *FHP, but had just assumed that it was a "I just had a crash" or "I just broke down on I4... HELP!" type number. Good to know that it has more purposes. :)

Twinks,

I had the same problem at the airport toll booth in November. $1.00 toll, unmanned booth and .95 in change with people behind me.

I also "ran" the booth and reported it to the attendant at the first manned booth I came to. I told her that I just ran a toll and she said "at the airport?". I said yes and she said that it was OK, don't make a habit of it and would I like to buy some change for further down the road.

I thanked her and the next day checked with the expressway people and they also told me the same thing.

I don't recommend doing this all the time, but it seems that they will let one or two pass.

Most ( not all ) people don't tend to pay much attention to posted speed limits so much as they just "go with the flow" in traffic. If everone else is travelling 50 in a 35, then the majority of motorists will follow along. Hence, the local authorities can set up their speed enforcement units practically anywhere there is free flowing traffic and be assured of a good catch.

Try following the speed limits on any road you choose and see how many people fly by you. It's an eye-opening experiment that local traffic enforcement authorities are very aware of.

i don;t think the issue was speeding, i think the op took responsibility for that fact, it was the issue of no signs and no way to know if one is speeding because there were not enough signs around. I am sorry you got the ticket, there is a big difference from someone who is intentionally speeding then the person who knows the limit and chooses to speed anyway, it all could just be the difference in where we live, in illinois there are signs everywhere, all states may not adopt this type of thinking, it is just one of those things

I would never call 911 to ask a general question. I would guess it would be better to call the local highway patrol station or some other agency that would know this information.

I had that same thing happen to me about the unmanned tolls. There was signs a few miles ahead stating that a tool booth was coming up, so since I didn't have any change, I pulled off at the first exit, got the change, and got back on. I did wonder though what would happen if you got up there with no change and it was unmanned.

Tyler, I thought the same thing until I saw an article in the sentinel a few months ago.

Aren't all the large toll plazas right in the middle of the highway manned?

An unmanned booth at the airport interchange is foolish, unless it is never enforced.

Although one person may not make a habit out of running tolls, the same rental car is used by lots of people.

Also if toll enforcement was limited to people who drive through without stopping, then there would be no problem.

Using the airport north exit, (optional left at first light then two lefts at next lights), Bee Line (528) and I-4, all the toll plazas are manned. Optional return: 528 exit 9 Tradeport, cross under, middle lane, required right onto McCoy, 2 mi. to airport.

The large toll booths that are actually on the hiway are manned, but the ones at the on and off ramps are not.

Now that I know this, I'll just go up 436 to the Bee Line and then either go out twards Orlando or to 417 that way. For me, It's cheaper to get to 417 that way as I am usually going to Deltona and I'll save a $1.00 (and not have the hassle of the unmanned toll booth)

I do know in our state, it TELLS you (well, maybe not on the sign but since our tolls doubled as of Jan. 1 if you didn't get I-pass, I was checking out all the info. - we don't travel enough to get I-pass so I had to find out how much more we were going to have to pay (since my old stash of change wouldn't be the proper denominations anymore)...if you come to an unmanned booth and have no change, you are to go through it, you are not to back up on an on-ramp, etc... Then you are supposed to call an 800 number OR tell them at the next toll booth, they will give you an envelope to mail the toll in.

Same thing if you accidently end up in an I-pass only lane! That has happened to us once (they've gotten better at marking them since they expanded them a lot but we thought we were in a regular one and next thing we know it shifted to I-pass only! Oops!) and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it, once you are in those lanes, you can't cut across several lanes of traffic to correct the error (some of them even have barriers so it unless you have the Mach 5 to jump it, it would be impossible) and with I-pass there is no stopping, if you did a dead stop you would cause a pile-up, so you are kind of stuck.

I was also reading that if you DO throw the correct amount of change into the toll and the light doesn't change, you don't have to add more change to it, you can go ahead and go and supposedly the computer would catch there was a problem (as sometimes they get jammed or whatever).

But the tourists and all drivers should be able to read signs
It is YOUR responsiblity to see and follow speed limits.....

So deal with it.

Wow - What a harsh reply. Yet you responded to this post:
"I like that they'll be stepping up speed limit enforcement on property, however, I wish they could standardize the speed limit throughout property. I think Osceola Parkway goes from 50 to 40 to 45 to 40, just in the stretch between WWOS and AK."

by saying:
"<!--StartFragment --> I agree completely, those changes in speed make no sense, it should all be 45 or 50."

Aren't you contradicting yourself? Either way I suggest you lighten up a little. I agree that speeding on property is a terrible problem...but your tone is rather harsh.

yeah, I did get a little fiesty there, for that I apologize.

That morning, i saw a lady putting on eye make up while driving in I-4 rush hour traffic,+ two rear enders due to tailgating. Guess I got my button pushed.

Please drive responsibly!! :wave2:

No, I'm not contradicting, disagreeing doesn't mean not obey.

I'm sorry for seeming harsh.

But too many life changing events occur due to driving issues.

Simple, drive with respect, leave early and don't be in a hurry, ask for directions, and NEVER drink and drive.

Seems easy but so many ignore.

Be Careful and Enjoy your Vacation!!
