Anyone Else Hate Getting Their Hair Cut? *UPDATE* Post #22

That's my problem! Some of them have some hairstyles that I would NEVER wear in a million years.

One time about four years ago I went in to get my hair cut about shoulder length. The girl who did my hair had her hair cut pretty short and kept asking me if I wanted to go shorter than I got it :scared1: uhh no thanks. I told you the length I wanted for a reason not for you to experiment.

My mom has had to go to Great Clips numerous times to fix botched haircuts from them. They always refund the money or do the hair again for free so my mom tries to find someone who can actually cut hair. If that person isn't there it often is a disaster.

years ago i used to go to this one stylist, she was an older woman, but her hair was also quite short and EVERYTIME she would say "are you SURE you don't want to go shorter?" everytime i'd come in. it was annoying but i learned to tune her out after a while.

the only reason i stopped going was because she was so slow at everything. she was the only person who worked there, she owned the place, but most of her clients were older women. anyway, anytime i'd wanted it dyed it would take HOURS! the one time, i kid you not, i was there for 8 HOURS! :scared1: that was the last time i went.

she was very nice, and she usually was pretty good at what she did and her prices were reasonable but i couldn't take sitting there for hours again.

So, I go to town and get all my errands done (I wanted to do them before I got my hair cut, so that if I didn't like it I didn't have to be seen in stores ). Then I drive to the hair salon. Park. Start walking up to the door. Something strange. Signs in the windows. Got closer. The sign on the door said "Closed, Remodeling." There was also a phone number if people were dropping things off.

No sign saying when they planned to re-open.

So, I drive home. Upset. Now that I finally made the decision to get my hair cut today, I couldn't. :(

Tried to look the number up in the phone book, it's not listed in the current book. Tried their number that was listed in last year's book. It just rang and rang.

So, I think they closed up shop permanently. They've been there probably 20-25 years. :( So, now I have to find someplace new and I don't think many places take walk-ins. :sad1:

I actually loved to get my hair cut! My best friend cut my hair for 8 years, but recently went to work full-time as an administrative assistant and no longer has time to cut hair in her home like she had been.

So, now you can add me to the "hair cut haters" list, because I have to find a new stylist. I think that is THE hardest thing ever!! My hair is not the easiest to cut so it's hard to find someone who does a nice job with it. I've been to one place already, and I cried when I got into my car. My search continues....

I enjoy the pampering and have never bought anything at a salon that I didn't want too.
Ditto! I do buy some products, though. Only ones that I really like and I know make a difference. When I get my haircut it's "me" time. Last time I scheduled my appointment my daughter wanted me to schedule an appointment for her at the same time. I said absolutely not. I want to relax!

I haven't been to get my hair cut in over two years because I hate going. My mom trims it for me. I hate talking to stylists about things, I just want them to leave me alone. You don't need to know where I'm going to school, what I'm going for, what I think about the weather. I know they are trying to be friendly but I absolutely HATE small talk. It also seems that they can never cut it right anyway so it's not worth $12 to get a trim when my mom can do just as good a job.
I think the problem is that you are only spending $12! If you find a good stylist you will find that they CAN cut it right but I don't know of any good shop that would only charge $12.

I don't like getting my hair done either. In May, I love getting it cut from long to short for summer but that's it. I trim my bangs all year long. My bangs always look pretty scary by May!!!:rotfl:

I'm not wild about getting my hair cut. I usually get it cut a little shorter than my normal style and let it grow to what I like, and let it stay longer for awhile. :upsidedow Except for my bangs. If they are too short or too long it bothers the heck out of me.

I'm almost 17 and I haven't gotten my hair cut professionally since I was 13. I went to Supercuts, told them to cut an inch. They cut off 5 :scared1: And my hair curls so it looked like more. I was so mad. Now I let my mom do it.

I used to like it when it wasn't an expensive endeavor to see a nice salon. I dropped my stylist 14 years agowhen her prices rose t0 $45 (originally $18 10 yrs prior). I've kept my hair in a straight long cut since then, and only go to the cheap places to get it trimmed off about 3 times a year.

I now have a bit more money I could spend toward my hair and I'd love to have an actual style again...but I'm afraid of choosing the wrong person to do my hair, so I keep sticking to the darn cut I've got.

I just had my haircut two weeks ago. For cut, color and highlights it came to $205.:scared1:

I really like my stylist but it is something I can't justify doing when money is tight. I'd rather look raggedy than have the kids or DH look raggedy. Often times, they are right there with me letting their hair get raggedy, though! I really should go a whole lot more often than I do but I just don't care that much...

I too dread making the appointment and going to get it cut but I know I will feel SO much better if I just do it......it has now been almost 5 months and I am mostly wearing a pony tail.......maybe next week for sure......??!! I had no idea so many others would feel the same. That is funny. I could never have really short hair- there is no way I would keep it up.

Funny you should post this. I just came back from getting a hair cut. My 2nd appointment with a new stylist. Last time I loved it. I brought a picture of a style I liked that I thought would look good. Short style. It was about 5 weeks since my last cut, brought the same picture, and it now looks completly different. Cost $28. Think I will go back to the beauty school for only $8. I can get it cut since it never comes out the same twice anyway.

I also dont want to talk to the person cutting my hair. I too am quiet and dont need to share my personal life with her.

I don't like to talk to the hairdresser either. I have found the longer the conversation, the shorter my hair cut!

I used to wear my hair long, but really like it better short. But I hate going in for trims. So I keep putting it off, and putting it off, until it's been months so then of course the stylist can't match the cut because I let it go too long. :(

I just hate going, and I don't like making an appointment and then having to keep it, so I just go to a walk-in place and of course never get the same stylist. In that way I know it would be better to go somewhere else...

Then I hate it when I get a chatty stylist who never shuts up. Maybe others like having one like that, but I don't. I prefer she just cut my hair and be quiet. I'm a very quiet person by nature and sometimes I just get sick of hearing the stylist talk, talk, talk and then I have to respond too.

And I hate it that they push products. Last time I was there she talked me into $64 worth of shampoo, thickener and hairspray and truthfully I didn't notice any difference between them and the Pantene that I buy at Wal-Mart.

My hair is getting disgusting. When it was short it was layered, so now that it has grown out too much the longer part is just so straggly and looks terrible.

I'm going this afternoon to get it cut. Will be glad when it's over.

I always wore my hair very, very short - right now it's a bit down past my shoulders.. Ugh! Reason? The smell of the chemicals in the hair salon does me in now.. Last year at the lake my hair was VERY long - and driving me crazy.. So - I went online and found a video on how to cut my own hair - in layers (although nowhere near as short as I would have liked it).. I got out my scissors and went to work.. I managed to get it just below my ear lobes with this method, but wasn't able to go shorter than that..

I was going to use this method again this month - but if I'm able to return to the lake in early April (fingers crossed!), it will still be pretty cold up there so I guess I should hang on to the longer hair until May or so..

Wish I could find a "traveling" stylist - that would come here to DD's - or to my place at the lake - but I've had no luck in that department..

The smell of the chemicals in the salon are just waaaay too strong.. First I start coughing like crazy - and then eventually I can't breathe.. It's frustrating because I really would like to have my hair super short for the summer again..:(

How did your cut turn out today? Hope you got what you were hoping for..:goodvibes

I know what you mean. My DH gets his hair cut like every 3 or 4 weeks by the same person who does my hair. I am lucky if I go four times a year (I trim my bangs). I just let it grow out untill I can't stand it long, then get it cut again. My hair person asked me why I wait so long and I told her that it was more important for DH to get his cuts...she just laughed at me!!

Luckily I am good at styling my hair so it usually looks good, but you can always tell after I have had a hair cut.

Hate it and the biggest reason is finding someone who can do a good job.
Whenever I do finally find someone, they usually stop styling within a year or two of having me as a client. It's happened to be 5 times the last 20 years, I'm starting to get paranoid.
Most recently, I found someone two years ago. She cut my hair maybe 5 times, then left to have her baby and is not coming back. I went to another girl in her salon and she butchered my hair. A$100 hatchet job.
So now, I let it grow out, trim it myself and keep asking people for referrals.

You can count me in as someone who does not like chatting with my stylist. I go about 6 times/year for highlights & trim spending about $150.

I am actually deciding on a new salon (I'm due to go), because I've had it with the one I've gone to now for the past 3 years.

I change salons every 3-5 years - I'm hoping to find someone who will concentrate on my hair and not mindless chitchat.

I used to spend almost $150 on my highlights too. I stopped a long time ago. I highlight at home for a fraction of the cost. I think it's less damaging on my hair too. The salon I went to put me under a dryer as part of the foil process. I had to get my hair cut a lot more often in those days.

Anyway, I've been happy with the results and the savings. Another plus is it takes a lot less time to highlight at home. I used to dread staying at the salon for so long. The smells were awful! I don't miss it at all.

Good for you. You are so lucky!!! I really WISH I could do my highlights at home - I'm afraid I would ruin my hair. It's the only thing, besides my wardrobe, that I spend alot of money on.

I wish I could do it too! I just know I would totally ruin my hair though...:scared1:

You all are making me realize HOW amazing it is to have a hair stylist for a best friend....

She cuts my hair. I take her out to dinner. If I want color, i just have to pay for the color (usually $20) :thumbsup2

No awkward small talk either...she's been my friend for a long time!!
