Anyone been to the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio

It's still snowing here in March! I would guess they open in April/May like the other parks.

I just called kalahari to check rates for November (we are going to michigan for 2 weeks next month). They didnt know anything about a hut-hut rate but they have a military discount!!! Monday-thursday we can go for $79 a night with water park passes. I think I will have to work something out and schedule that today!

Wow that is a great rate!!! We are traveling with a fireman I will have to check and see if they have any special fire fighter rates.

If anybody else has any other suggestions on things to do or tips on what to bring I would appreciate it.

We have been to both very recently - we went to GWL in Ohio this summer and the problem I noticed that was food could be allowed all over the water park vs. in a designated eating area. I have a problem with this - if your walking barefoot all over the place you don't want to step in someones nachos! The GWL in Traverse City, MI is so much nicer, cleaner, newer and bigger. I don't know about your travel from Cananda to there but just a thought - even though the prices are cheaper in Ohio.

The Kalahari rooms were smaller than the GWL but the price was better and the best part was the surfing lessons! Have fun whatever you decide!

BTW I did hear, like someone else posted, the the Wisconson Dells are wonderful!

Good Luck!

Traverse City is 8 hours from us, Sandusky is only 4 so i think we will stick with Sandusky. Though Traverse City had great rates in March, you should check it out!!

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure cedar point isnt open in march.

We were not planning on going to Cedar Point just the indoor water park. We always take a warm vacation in March (either Disney or cruise) but this year we have had to invest a lot of $$$ into our house so no big vacation for us at Spring Break. I figured this was the next best thing. I plan on arriving at the lodge changing into shorts and t shirts and not going outside again until we are ready to leave. I think we will get the combination suite at the Kalahari resort with the kitchen and eat as much as we can in the room. Maybe order out for Pizza one night.

We have reservations to stay at the Kalahari (for the first time) in Sandusky for June 2007. We have reserved a combination suite! We will be going to Cedar Point while we are there, and maybe one of the islands. I'm glad to see this thread so maybe we can pick up some new ideas!

I believe that it was warmer than in the GWL and that was pretty warm - somewhere in the high eighties I believe. I have a very thin son and it was fine for him - no complaints. If you go to their website it might say what the temp. is but I don't know for sure.

Just bumping in but we had a different temps. We thought Kalahari was chilly. My DS3 was cold. At GWL we were all comfortable and at Castaway Bay we though it was fine too. Any of the parks will be busy during the breaks. Remember Kalahari sells day passes too so they can get pretty crowded.

Kalahari Sept. 2006
GWL April 2006
Castaway Bay Oct. 2005
GWL Oct.2004

We live about 40 minutes south.

The Kalahari is supposed to be at an indoor temperature of 86 degrees all the time. The waters are always warm. However, Castaway Bay at Cedar Point is a different story! :sad2: We were there for 2 nites and the heaters were not working to heat the water!

Last night I talked with the family we went with and they said the water was cold in the pools too. Maybe we just had a bad 2 days there. That being said with older kids I would go to Kalahari and with younger I would choose the other 2 for different reasons. At CB my kids loved the dance parties and bedtime stories with Snoopy it was the highlight of our stay.

We've been to both and I much prefer Kalahari.

Allison, I noticed your from Ontario. I'm not sure where you live but if you're looking for something close to home, didn't they just open a Great Wolf Lodge by Niagara Falls? Just a thought...
