Anybody Stay At DVC On Weekends?

As a consultant with alternate flyback options, I am happy to book a long weekend on points since my company picks up the tab for the flight! I will cash in some miles so my husband can join me. :thumbsup2

I always thank all the members that stay on weekends, otherwise they would have to reallocate the point charts and my bargain weekdays would go up.

I am one of those unusual people who actually does not like to stay at the same resort for a whole vacation. If you are not looking to “maximize” the value of DVC and have the money to pay “rack rate” (in points) for weekends then staying weekends at DVC is right for you, as it is for those who hate to change resorts.

That is the great thing about DVC and WDW in general; everyone can find a “system” that works for them.

If I could find some “last minute” points and a reservation for $5/pt then I would do a DVC point weekend reservation, otherwise I am way to cheep, and stick with weekday DVC and do AP/visa/GP discounts on weekends or stay at Bonnet creek on weekends.

OT, but how much is a weekend night at Bonnet Creek?

I'll have the points to use, plus I have some non-expiring tickets with days left on them. Really, it could be a nice cheap trip if I can find cheap airfare. It's just that I don't want to feel I'm getting ripped off using weekend points.

I would never feel "ripped off" under those conditions. We looked at points in terms of a week, so we never really think much about weekend days specifically unless our point total is getting low for the year. If you stop and think about how inexpensive it is to travel using your points for accommodations and just needing to purchase transportation and food OOP, then it was a good value. That's why we have points...to use them for the trips we WANT.

We do! I am way to up tight to be changing resorts during my "vacation". It just seems like way too much of a hassle, especially with the kids. When we purchased our points we made sure we bought enough to have a week stay at SSR in a 1bdrm during x-mas week. Not that we will travel then, but if we wanted to we could.

I stay weeknds, weekdays, heck I stay anytime I can :rotfl2: We have never concerned ourselves with weekends versus weekdays. With three boys and multiple sports schedules whenever time allows us we go:cool1: I actually pay more attention to days the flights are cheaper than anything else.

Rack rate on a 2br (generally the same layout as a 2br DVC) is typically 289 but inside 60 days it is not uncommon to get to around 200, if you rent from an owner less than 150 is common at less than the 60 day mark. It does vary be season.

Good point Jaaron, I can get a flight out of O'hare for $189 RT w/ taxes for the dates I'm looking at. And if I use points it makes for a pretty "cheap" trip if I don't place a monetary value on the points.

I'm so close to doing it. Just me and my gal hanging at Disney World. We havn't had a trip without our girls for about 5 years now.

Maybe I'll call and see if they have any studios available at AKL.

Oh, they do have rooms available. Cant make a reservation though until I confirm flights and if wifey can get the time off. I have to borrow from 09 since I have a June use year and if I pull them into 08, I have to use them before June.

BTW, I also asked about Tree House Villas and still nothing firm yet.

How would you go about finding an owner to rent from? The property is on my RCI exchange, but I haven't found imuch availability. It looks to be really close to everything.

Add us to the "frugal" list :) We typically start our vacations at our DVC resorts on Sunday, and end them on Thursday. This allows us to go more than once a year with our measly 150 pts :goodvibes

Close to everything but does NOT include Disney transportation. It is surrounded by Disney property but is "off site" in Disney terms.

Understood. Although I'd hate the driving, I would enjoy being able to eat offsite, and I think I get free parking with an AP, right?. My thought was that if I could get it on an exchange, it would be a super cheap way to add a full week to a DVC trip. Heck, if I wanted to, I could stay 17 nights in May--5 DVC, 7 Bonnet Creek, 5 DVC--for 130 points plus a nominal exchange fee :woohoo:

OK, looks like this is a go. I'm going to spend the points.

Was able to procure flights round trip out of Chicago O'hare for $187 RT with taxes included!!! That's a good price.

Current plan is to fly out on Thrusday night, stay at a hotel the first night and then go to AKL on Friday and Pirate and Princess Party at night. This is going to so much fun.

I'll call and make reservations early next week.

OT you can find renters through Ebay, TUG or redweek. There is some discussion on the DIS other accommodations area. Picking a owner who has lots of points and rents a lot would be the way I would go.

Haven't read the responses, but we only have 200 points, so we rarely stay on Friday or Saturday Night.

Glad you decided to book the extra nights on points! I just dropped 43 pts to stay an extra night at VWL on 12/26!!! :scared1: I just don't have the extra money to pay cash for the room..even with the discount. Like PP's have said..we have the pts. to use them and I am not going to worry about it. Have fun :goodvibes

Most of our trips include weekends and we knew that when we bought the points. In fact before the Member Cruises the past couple of years and for 2009 our stay is just for Friday and Saturday night...that's when we do studios.

We bought primarily to use for weekend getaways at least for the near future. Other then our yearly Disney cruise that is the only time we get off. Do usually try to go SAT&Sun though whenever possible.
