I never had acne in my youth. I started getting it when I had my daughter. I can't use anything harsh. No proactive or the like, tried salasylic (sp?), clydominicin (sp?).

Any ideas out there. I take Doxycylcine or minocycline when it gets systic, but I hate taking the antibiotics....

Anyone have a magic wand to wave???

Can you use Neutrogena products? As far as OTC remedies go, I find that brand to work the best.

Well, there may be other reasons you might not want to try this remedy, but Ortho Tri-Cyclen (birth control pill) worked wonders for me.

You tried Proactive and it didn't work? THAT is my magic wand, sorry.

I have aderse reaction to BC. I may give it another college try though.

Murad is another brand of skin care products you might want to try. My daughter had good luck with it. You can find it at Ulta Stores (if you have them in your area) or their website is http://www.murad.com

They have a product called Acne Cream or something. It comes in a large tube. Clearasil also has a fairly new product that is supposed to get rid of any pimple within 3 days. I use it occasionally and like it. I find the Mary Kay cleanser works well too. Proactiv irritated my skin really badly, so I can't use that. I have extremely sensitive skin. At the moment, my birth control pill keep my complexion clear, but I still try other products when I get the occasional breakout. I have suffered from acne since I was 15, so I have tried every product under the sun.

Thanks for the tips. I want something to prevent it though. Any great washes or mirale creams? Does the neutro acne cream prevent or rid existing?

I have seen these in Sephora. Pricey.

What products did she like in the line?

Prevented. It's a face wash. You would use it to wash your face instead of using soap.

Yes, I have tried MANY face washes and non have helped. EIther don't work, or are over drying and then irritate the skin. That's why I went to the neutro soap, I have tried the sensitive skin version too.

So when you say fash wash....wich one?

I started breaking out when I was in my 20's. The only thing that really takes care of it is washing with Dial Antibacterial Soap. The white bar. Seriously, it doesn't dry out my skin or anything. And talk about cheap, at least give it a try and see if it helps. If I'm having a tough time, about one week a month ;) , I also use Salisylic (sp?) acid, the Neutragena brand. My daughter used Dermalogica but she still gets pimples once in a while.

The ones she liked the best were the Clarifying Cleanser and the Clarifying Toner. Her skin was very oily at the time, and these products worked well. Not overdrying.

Both my teens now use the Cetaphil line of cleaners and moisturizers, and they really like them. You can buy them almost anywhere.

Wow. I was just going to post this. YES! It works!!!!! I have been doing it for years. Infact, I use the horrible yellow Dial once a week to give it a real blast of anti-bacterial power. It takes about a month to work, but my face is spot free :sunny:

I have dry skin and I find if I use any of these "acne" type products or even wash my face more then once/day I break out more. The skin likes to keep a natural balance and if your skin is dry, it will produce MORE oil, thus causing a breakout. Try washing your face just once/day with a mild soap and see if you notice a difference after a couple weeks. I use Dove for Sensitive Skin and the only break-outs I get now are with my period.

Tea Tree Oil - Tea Tree Oil - Tea Tree Oil.

Smells like butt - but clears up acne like no one's business. I promise.

I've had bad acne since I was 11, I'm now 24 so I've had both childhood and adult acne. (Isn't it nice they seperate the two?) My mom was one of those people who didn't get acne till well after she'd had three kids. Here are some over the counter products we both like. (Although I will admit I still see a dr once every three months. I'm on bc because that is the only thing that helps and I have creams to prevent scars.)

I use Neutrogena deep clean cream cleanser as my daily wash, they have a varity of face soaps but this one is the one I find works the best for me. Over the years I've learned stress causes a good amount of my acne so I use Cetaphil for those times. It's strong enough to take care of the acne but it's made for sensitive skin. My doctor gave me samples and ever since my mom has sworn by it. I still do get flair ups around my period and I found that CLEAN & CLEAR Persa-Gel 10 Maximum Strength helps zap it pretty quickly.

Hope this helps.

The only thing that works for me is the Clinique Facial Soap for skin type 2. I use the gel moisturizer as well. You can buy it in Macy's, Filene's, etc. or online. Every other soap or moisturizer makes my breakouts worse. The soap is $10.50, but lasts me several months. It ends up costing me less than the stuff in the drug store.

Everyone is just so different. You really have to pick something and try it for a good month or two.

I just started using Neutrogena Acne Wash. I get the cyctic acne only on my jawline and neck. Thank you little baby.... that's when it really started getting bad. The Acne Wash is helping. I focus on the neck and jaw and just go lightly over my face. I have used Cetaphil for years and love it, but it's not strong enough for me now. I also wash my neck and my jaw AFTER I was my hair in the shower. I throw my hair up in a clip in the shower so that I don't have conditioner residue on my neck, which I *think* makes it worse. So far, two weeks, it's helping a little bit. I wish I coudl do more for it, but with little bean inside, I can't.

Good Luck.
