Any other TDS CM’s starting to get nervous?

So I have noticed a bit of a pattern. Disney announces store closures about 3ish weeks before the intended closing date. So if the store is due to close on or before the 16th, about the 20th-24th you start to hear the rumblings of the next set of closures. Well if you all remember, the initial announcement said “at least” 60 stores and with the set of closures happening this week, it puts them over the 60 store threshold. So I am wondering if on or about the 20th we will find out if more stores are closing. I find myself getting anxious as the next closing date approaches and no word on whether there are more coming or if the closures are done. Anyone else feeling like this?

I’m not a TDS cast member but I know what you are going through. So many changes and you have no control over them. Some of you worked a long time to get the benefits that come with working for Disney to only lose them all if you don’t have the years in to retire. Hopefully your store will last. Good luck.

My store closed in March. A few of us transferred to local stores. The next one closed the next month and was announced the day after my friend started there! We have one more in the area that will probably close before my new one. Mine's an outlet, so we think it may last longer..

I work at an outlet but it doesn’t give me a sense of security. I know there haven’t been many outlets closed but they have closed them. What concerns me is the stores that were near us are closing this week and the next ones near us are temporarily closed. I feel like we are just kinda out there by ourselves and I guess it is just making me freak out a bit.

Good luck to you all. We thought we were closing for months before going under in the first wave in March. We oddly expected it. I have a friend in a store closing this week, and they were shocked.

Oddly Pat, some of us have acknowledged that closing is a very real possibility. A couple of us think it is just a matter of time. I have been very vocal that I feel like it is is going to happen but would like Disney to come out and tell the stores yes more are coming or no we are done closing stores. I would prefer them to be honest as I very strongly feel that our cast would stay until the very end.

We all stayed to the end, only one CM was kinda weird about it and would not come the last day we were all scheduled, or the night many ex-CMs came at closing, or for the after closing get together a month later. The rest of us just WANTED to stay until the end. I was thinking about leaving in December of this year (retirement) but was still having fun and probably would have changed my mind. We thought we were closing for months, our lease was up, they made us a hybrid store and dumped junk on us LOL. We had no managers, just leads and covering managers from other stores for many months before we closed.

I just found out we are getting a couple of seasonal CMs as we have a few CMs that have left or are about to leave. I would like to think that Disney would not allow any hiring in our store if they intended to close us but your statement about your friend tosses that out the window, lol. Right now I am hoping we get another holiday but from what I have seen on another board it doesn’t sound like we will.

We also had some from the 2nd store transfer to the next store which was announced closing yesterday..
My new store is the only one left in the area, so we know we're next now. We have about 10 CMs who transferred from the first 2 stores.

Lately they were requiring full availability here for any transfers, which is pretty tough to provide and not possible if you have another job. Or a child.

They probably know it's hard. They know it may make CM's leave therefore not having to give them unemployment???

Well, you still get unemployment. A vague offer of a possible transfer opportunity with unrealistic availability requirements does not disqualify. At least not here in NJ. (The CMs with other jobs do not get unemployment of course.) Neither does Disney retirement (with no pension, no 401K, just a chance at discounts if one decides to spend $$ with the company) when a store closes.

Good luck to all current TDS CMs. Hang in there. We had fun up to the very last day. We treated it like an Irish wake, re-telling funny stories. I was there the longest but some were even new to me, I missed hearing about them when they happened.

I forgot, here in FL is like living in another world. I do believe if they offer you the transfer and require full availability but you turn it down, you don't qualify. It's the same as the County School District's. They can move you out of your current school, transfer you anywhere in the County with different hours and if you refuse, you are out of a job, and don't qualify because you refused work. I would imagine though here in FL they would take into consideration instances such as when ours closed in Lee County. The only stores left open were over 2 hrs away, going towards Miami or going up to Tampa area

I actually spoke to unemployment here, about something else. And he said you are looking for a job with same type hours as you had before (part time). I am not experienced with unemployment at all, never been on it in my life (I am almost 63). My schedule was around caring for my adult special needs son (needs supervision). Not sure I can find anything as flexible, as a new employee. Maybe in the Fall.

I closed one store already. I was hired in February 2019, we were told in June 2019 that we would be closing and we closed our doors in August 2019. At least we had a couple of months before our store closed. These days they are only giving them a couple of weeks. I transferred and I've been where I am for almost two years. We are the last pink and green store left in the world. We all thought that would hold some weight, but when they closed the Glendale, CA store, that shook us all hard. Someone said that with the way they are going about closing stores, that all stores just may be closed by fiscal year, which is September. I've always said the stores are on their way out, but I was hoping to get through at least one more holiday season. Not so sure that will happen 😢

I dunno. I just know that I am beginning to dread the 16th of the month. I did see something posted that all stores would be closed by November but end of fiscal year does make sense. Although I feel like if that was their intention then they would be closing more stores and on a bi-monthly schedule as there seems to be too many stores to close in a 2 month timespan

I heard that the stores were told if they were still open by the end of September, which is the end of the fiscal year, they would be ok. So it sounds like they are going to keep some open 🤷🏼‍♀️ IDK, not sure what to think anymore.

I thought they would pause the closings in Q1, just to take advantage of the most profitable quarter. Just a guess on my part.

One mall in the area, I heard, actually offered free rent (not sure for how long) but it closed anyway. I guess it was too late, decision had been made.

Good luck all.

interesting, well I guess I just sit back and wait for September and see what happens then. It does make sense that they would want to get the closures in the books before the end of the fiscal year.

I am hoping to get another holiday, our store opened in October so we opened heading right into holiday and I think it just made me love holiday time in the store even more. I agree though, I feel like once they set that closing ball in motion they will not stop it regardless of any offer the landlord may have for them. I know our store has a few more years on the lease maybe that will buy us more time.
