I would make a chart as well.

You can quick set up a chart/table in Word/Excel and get it done in a flash.

My only problem with that is these days, for many teachers, it is not an issue of getting the answer right, but solving the problem the way they want you to. A chart might not be how this teacher wants the students to find the answer (although for some it is the only way to make sense of it). I would be more inclined to believe the LCM is the way to do it.

I'm studying to be a teacher (graduate in May!) and one of the big things I have been taught is give a child multiple ways to solve a problem.

I'm a visual learner so a chart would be the way to go for me. Some kids may get the LCM.

If I were the teacher, I'd accept any way to get the problem done as long as the answer is there.

I agree with this in that it teaches children how to improvise and solve problems. However, at some point certain math techniques should be studied as they are the best ways to solve more complex problems. That said, I didn't get proper instruction on LCM's until HS (back in the '70's).
