Any disney food stores take EBT cards?

I don't think you quite understand how credit cards work.

I charge almost everything on my credit card (to get the rewards) and then go home and pay off the balance immediately. No credit card debt here. :thumbsup2
That's great that you do, but many many people don't.

You need to declare everything. And I am sure they declare some value to it. I havent called anyone a name.

People on here are so rude and judgemental. It is possible that someone making a substantial amout of money could still be eligible for food stamps,
Not likely. According to the NH eligibility website, "Household Income: All available income for all members of your household is counted when we determine your eligibility for food stamps. However, we subtract certain expenses from that total. If, after subtracting your expenses, your total net income equals or falls below the monthly net income limits for the number of people in your household, you are considered income-eligible"
While nothing's impossible*, it's highly unlikely a person/family with a 'substantial' income would ultimately have enough expenses to qualify for food stamps.

*almost nothing; don't try lighting a match on a marshmallow unless you've got a LOT of time ;)

REALLY - I'M being judgemental. REALLY! You don't think saying hurtful things to people is mean. You don't think that 3 pages (so far) full of MEAN and hurtful posts on a message board is bullying. Many state laws would beg to differ. It's called cyber bullying. WE get it, low income people (according to disboards) don't deserve to visit Disney. WE get it. Post after post is very hurtful. It's too much!

FYI it's not really bullying if you are telling the honest truth. Just because the truth hurts does not make it bullying.

Where did she write this? I'd love to read this? I'll be waiting....

They do not just give Food Stamps to any one who asks or wants them, there are forms and guidelines that need to be followed. You can not ask for Food stamps when you have Thousands of dollars. The forms are diffrent from state to state but basically they all for those in need who have no money and need the Help (not those that have thousands of dollars).
Feel free to search out the forms from diffrent states they are available online.

um.. folks..i was just asking a question and Most (not all thankfully) were a little harsh and not very..well...disney like. i do have a long trip planned..yes..but that is because we have DVC and it was a gift many years ago before our financial situation became not the greatest. not that it is anyone's business - as i am not a fan of needing assistance - and i know some people on welfare do abuse the system - but i am not one of thse people. i do have 5 kids..yes u can se that from other posts. and we are on a single income so yes that puts us as "low income" in the eyes of the nation. i dont work as i have a young child who would require daycare and i also have a special needs child who needs alot of my time. while some people..even family..have asked why not sell the timeshare..we have not. because it is not my children's fault they were born into this situation and i feel they deserve to have this special memory. so hopefully it trumps all the times i have to tell them i am sorry but they cant go to mcds or the movies every week like all their friends do. or sorry i cant buy them something they want like alot of parents can. we do not have any savings..nor do we irresponsibly have credit card debt..no debt in fact except our mortage. and as far as this trip..refund tax return if you really must know. and it will likely take about 3 years of that. so i am sorry that i offended you by trying to just ask a question. you all responded very hurtfully and i hope it was worth it as i a now trying to regain my composure before my kids see how upset this made me. i think people sometimes forget that things like this just happen to people. not because they are irrsponsible..it is just llife and we should all be a little more considerate. again..sorry i so clearly offended you all.

You have five kids and right not your biggest responsibility is to raise your kids, not to give them what other people have, but to understand realities. Do you really think you are setting a good example to take an expensive vacation when you are dependent on assistance to feed them? As someone who is supporting my brother in law, who had a father who felt that he should buy what he deserved, not what he could afford (leaving two sons who, despite being poor, both ended up with large student loans back when there was far more money for school and tuition was far less), please consider the long term implications. You are teaching five children that it doesn't make any difference if you require help to feed your family, they should still spend on luxuries. That, long term, is FAR more damaging than missing Disney.

Is this harsh, yes. Welcome to the internet.

I hope your financial setbacks are short term and that you will be off assistance and able to take many vacations with your kids. And I don't begrudge you the assistance. But what you are doing is creating a story - in public - that, when combined with the selfish and thoughtless behavior of others like you, will result in means testing in order to get any assistance whatsoever. And I think that would create a huge issue for other people getting back on their feet - if they had to have zero assets before qualifying for assistance. I also hope that your state is as generous with means testing as people here are saying and what you are doing is legal - it would be really sad for your kids if one of your neighbors was to turn you in for welfare fraud.

Well, maybe the OP should go ask her case worker if she can use the card there. I wonder what that person's response would be.

Even if you take the DVC out of the equation, this vacation is probably in the $5000 range just for park tickets and airfare. The park tickets alone would be over $3000. That's just ridiculous. Of course that's before you add in 15 days worth of food and Universal tickets. Or is the Universal an additional 5 days? If it is that would be 20 days worth of food. Feeding a family of 7 for 15 days in Disney World is gonna add on a few thousand more.

You know there are people who need assistance and cant get it because they dont qualify. So how did it help them if they contributed?

My comment was directed toward someone who could qualify but choose not to. I was saying that you shouldn't be made to feel like a horrible person for needing assistance.

As for your comment, I know exactly what you are talking about since I was one of those people. I was told at one time that we didn't qualify because we made $30 too much per month. You know what you do in that situation? You cry..... then you eat cheap food, only free entertainment (this was back before the internet), and work - even if it's at a job you feel is beneath you.

So here is a scenario for all of you:

Single mom (divorced because husband was drug user), 3 kids. Has an Associates Degree, works as the lead teacher at a Head Start for low-income families. BUT only makes $24,000 as that is all the State will pay teachers. She works full time but has summers and school vacations off. The hours make it difficult to obtain a second job-besides there would be no one to care for her children.

Due to her income she qualifies for food stamps. She is doing the best she can. She is a teacher for Pete's Sake. Educating the very young, preparing them for school.

Does this mean she isn't entitled to a vacation?

How does that even work if, according to the OP, she is allowed to save anymore than $2000?

I'm sure you are writing the truth. One can infer that guidelines need to be followed, but to not only assume but to flat out write that someone is committing forgery - is a stretch. ESPECIALLY since the OP stated that the DVC was a GIFT.

The tickets alone would blow that out the window.

Forgetting about the DVC part, how is your husband, (the only person working) able to take off of work for a 20 day vacation? I have the nicest boss in the world but he would freak if I did that. That is a lot of time off for someone in a bad economical situation.

Is it a 3 week deluxe level one that the vast majority of people will never be able to take in their entire lives?

If she can pull if off, more power to her. I wish her well.

Vacations are one thing, But 20 days at Deluxe Resorts are another.

It would work because she DOESN'T save over $2K. She plops the money down on her vacation (2 tix here, 2 tix there, etc...), and keeps the accounts low enough that she still qualifies for aid. If she actually put all of the money into her account to pay for the trip, she would be in violation.

Of course, since she's not actually breaking the law, this makes it all better...

Please explain to me how the DVC is a gift if SHE owns & goes EVERY 3 years. I am not trying to be mean, but I cannot see what the GIFT is if she owns it.

Is the OP saying the dues for these points that she owns & uses very 3 years is a gift along with the airfare for 7, WDW park tickets for 10 or 15 days (I am still confused on how many days), Universal park tickets for 5 days, hotel stay to go to Universal for 5 days & all the food is a gift?

Boy I wish someone would gift that to me!
