Any disney food stores take EBT cards?

I don't care if you sign up for food stamps. That's your business. Knock yourself out. The OP stated that the DVC was a gift. Like many people on hard times, they are hopeful that things would get better. Maybe they will, maybe not, it's really not my business. The OP asked a simple question. Answer the question or not, but this thread is REAL personal. Lines are crossed, feelings are hurt. I hate bullying, and I'm sorry when you have threads breaking down points and cost, almost out-right calling her a bad parent, irresponsible (financially), forgery (assets), and a few other things I can't think of, yeah - in my opinion (which is not worth a hill of beans) this is cyber bullying. If you read this thread on a Teen message board, most of us would think it was. The teen asked a question, maybe it was stupid to those on the board, but to write the things I’ve read on this thread is too much.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 so true....

This is the issue I have, what has she done fraudulently? Have your opinion, it's yours and it's free to give. It's the accusatory tone and name calling that has crossed the line.

People tend to get very upset when someone else uses their hard earned money for a splurge. Most people don't mind helping others out. However accepting government aid and then going on an expensive trip is not right. Maybe it is not fraudulent, but at the very least shows bad taste, and is definately abuse of a system meant to help people survive hard times. It is not meant to be used for luxuries but for needs.

If the OP finds that they have a surplus of funds from their government assistance they would be better served to turn around and give others a hand up. Not to spend that money on a trip to WDW.

We have five children and my husband came back from a deployment in August 2011 to NO JOB. BUT, thankfully we are responsible and save money. He just got a job which means he was out of work for 7 months. We NEVER even thought about going to get assistance. It's our responsibility to feed our children. We saved because you never know when you won't have a job--we weren't out buying Disney timeshares. We too have a child with special needs and a couple that would be in daycare. I don't see your reason for not working when your family is on assistance--that doesn't make any sense to me.

You shouldn't feel ashamed in getting help (SNAP, WIC, etc.) If you have worked then you have paid into the system. We use to be on food stamps, gone to the food bank, used WIC and it was very hard admitting that we needed help feeding our family. My mother was the one who pointed out that we paid into it so it's there for us. Of course people shouldn't be on assistance for years though; it's there to help you get back on your feet.

People on here are so rude and judgemental. It is possible that someone making a substantial amout of money could still be eligible for food stamps, before being judgemental do your research. So not everyone who is poor is on food stamps. It all depends on the family size and the cost of living. I bet the same people who are saying that she shouldn't be taking a vacation because she's on food stamps are the same people who are charging their trip with multiple credit cards or using a credit card to purchase their food at the grocery store.

From a different thread the OP posted the following:

I don't have enough points for a 2bed sv. We actually only go every 3 years and bank/borrow around the use year so we have enough for what we need. As it works to do a 10/5 split would have been my 450 exactly but we will do an 8/7 split instead and I will just buy the extra 6 points. It's great that DVC does that now. My last trip 3 years ago I was only a couple points short and no one wants to rent/transfur that small amount. I was lucky enough to just come across someone on the boards who just gave me a couple points as they weren't going to use them. This time around I won't need to go looking! I'm really not complaining about 2 weeks...much more than most people....I was just spoiled thinking I would get the value again and have the nice long stay. Can't spring for more points either as we are actually surprising the kids with an aditional 5 days at universal. Never though I would combine that with a Disney trip but I got a hotel discount for going to one of those timeshare tours in my area. with airfare costing quite a bit for 7 it was either combine it with Disney or probably not go at all. No matter what it will be a great trip! You are right that I will miss the laundry...well miss is maybe too strong a term..lol. It does make it easier to pack less. With this split we should make it until we switch resorts and get a load in right away. And we can use the laundry in AKV....it is still complimentary for DVC members....just not as convienient as if it were in the room. We actually didn't use the kitchen much last time. We had the dining plan which we won't do this time around but I figure we will still likely eat most meals in the park except breakfast and I don't tend to want to cook for breakfast...too early. We can always microwave an egg if we want to get fancier than poptarts or cereal!

Is there a vomit "smilie". To think someone could afford all this & get food stamps too..................... What a great country.

So they're spending 5 additional days at Universal? For those keeping track, that adds up to 20 days of vacation, consecutively.

Well now, this just keeps getting better and better. :sad2::sad2:

You know there are people who need assistance and cant get it because they dont qualify. So how did it help them if they contributed?

I don't think you quite understand how credit cards work.

I charge almost everything on my credit card (to get the rewards) and then go home and pay off the balance immediately. No credit card debt here. :thumbsup2

exactly....I always get a good chuckle out of those that try to make credit cards out to be all bad. If used right, they can be a way to earn a ton of free stuff.

That statement is not rude or judgemental either.

My first trip to Dis was at age 39. There was a time right after Dd was born (when I was 33) when our kids qualified for state health insurance because although we both worked, the income levels and 4 kids qualified us. I cried the day that I applied for those "benefits"--hate that term. Even though I have worked and payed into the system since I was 17 and DH has done the same--without a year off for the birth of our kids--I still didn't want to be on "assistance".

At the time DH was working in his profession which required his bachelor's degree, but he works for the government which does not always pay like the public sector.

After DD was born, DH quickly got his master's degree, a promotion and a raise and we were off of "assistance". I certainly would not have taken a Disney trip at that time as we did need every bit of our income to raise our kids.

Our plan to get to Disney, was to save, budget, live frugally and work extra jobs even when it wasn't convenient for years then go. We have been blessed to have 2 budget yet decent moderate, only counterservice meal, trips of 8 day and 5 days and recently 1 day at MK, but never 14 or 15 day trips. Paid for in full in cash by us.

Save, budget, save, work. This plan works for many and doesn't inflame others.

I use credit cards - I pay them off in full each & every month. My only debit is my mortgage. The rule in our home is if we cannot afford we do not purchase it.

Sounds to me like you are being judgemental & rude too. :snooty:

OP: I truly believe that you ARE trying to do what is best for your family, but let me give you my perspective as someone who grew up on welfare.

I too, did not have many things that other kids had. We never, ever went on a vacation my entire childhood. But that is really OK with me now. My DH both worked hard and went to college and now we can take modest vacations.

That modest background was really good for me financially, though. Knowing that the things everyone else has, I do not need, has been wonderful for keeping our finances on track as an adult. Probably still will never have a deluxe vacation though.

On the other hand, if I had taken long, deluxe level vacations as a kid - which most people can't afford- I think it would have been really, really difficult to become an adult.

My mom though...My mom used whatever money we got to buy what SHE wanted. I knew they were things we should not have. As a kid on welfare, it was both embarrassing and painful to watch my mother spend what money we did have on the wrong things.

I am so surprised this thread hasn't been shut down. The question was answered pages ago and now its just...:sad2:

If your on food stamps.........

....perhaps taking a vacation to Disney World isn't the best use of your money??

Shouldn't that read

If your going to Disney World perhaps your food stamps aren't the best use of our money.

According to wikipedia.coom

Cyberbullying is the use of the Internet and related technologies to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyber-bullying

Yes, that's the definition. :confused3 And?

Pointing out the OP's unethical behavior isn't cyberbullying, no matter how many times you try to claim otherwise.

You ask what she has done fraudulently, how about that she is basically telling the Welfare Department that she has "NO MONEY" and can not provide food for HER family and NEEDS OTHERS to Pay For it. But yet she sure has THOUSANDS of $$$$ for Vacation. How is that not Fraud?

Where did she write this? I'd love to read this? I'll be waiting....

You would think so. I just can't figure out how her state did not find this asset. That's a pretty big asset for them to look over :confused3

I'm not sure a timeshare actually counts as an asset, particularly if there's a lien on it (which I have no idea about). It is not really "unoccupied real estate" as a PP quoted. DVC may have some resale value which other timeshares don't, but you can't expect a state employee to know that. The timeshare may have been declared and the state guidelines just didn't consider it an asset.

I also think the name calling on this thread is excessive. One PP said that OP made her sick. Is that kind of personal attack now allowed on the Dis?

How many points do you have to stay that long?? Unless you banked points. If you are on food stamps you have no business owning a DVC. Sell it and take that money to buy your groceries.

I have never figured out how to quote multiple people. I do not have designer anything. this vaca is our only luxury. and everyone is welcome to their opinions. And I haven't paid dues every year while recieving extra assistance. the assitance is a fairly new and hopefully temporary thing for us. as i know how we are looked at by some because of it even though it really has nothing to do with who we are. but my kids come before other people's quick opinions. my husband got laid off after over 10 years with the same company. we thought we had made it through the danger zone but had not. he was one of the lucky ones to find a new job and is always looking for something better and yes we both have college educations. we are not one of those families that just take and never give. we had an unavoidable situation. in one minute everything can change. these help systems are set up for people like us..who need some temporary help. and it is sad that so many abuse it and give the rest of this stigma.

Sorry but if DH lost his job the DVC would be put up for sale the next day, even though we have a savings that would get us through a considerable amount. My first job as a parent is to feed, cloth and house my children. If WE my husband and I could take a luxury vacation then it would be after my chilren were provided for by us not the taxpayers.
