Well, Spider-Man 2 opens next week, and I just read an article in Newsweek about the new Batman movie being filmed for next year.

I've been wondering -- how many other comic book collectors are there on the DIS? And what do you read? I read mainly DCs, but I do like Marvel's Ultimate line.

Oh man. My husband has thousands in the basement, all in backing boards and boxes. He hasn't collected in awhile, but he has Punisher, all the Batman series, Spiderman, Doc Strange. Too many to mention.

He had all the silver/gold different colored MacFarlanes from a few years back, one was even signed by MacFarlane, but in a moment of financial crisis, he had to sell that set. We go through them every so often when a new Overstreet comes out. We have them insured for $10,000.

I had all the new EC reprints when they came out. I loved those!! (Tales From the Crypt, etc)

Hi, Matt!

I was as big a fan of DC and Superman as Jerry Seinfeld as a kid!! I had a subscription to Action Comics, Adventure Comics, Superman, Supergirl, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen.... just to make sure I got at least ONE a month. Back then it cost one dollar a year for a 12 month subscription, and a comic was 12 cents!!! :earseek:

Okay, so I'm ANCIENT... but I digress....

Now to the nightmare, my Mom, God rest her soul, THREW AWAY MY COMICS WHEN I WAS AWAY AT COLLEGE!!!!  :o ....I still cry at the thought of it.

Not only that she threw away my Mad Magazine collection!!

No, she never understood my OBSESSION!

Well, after years of this I was told over and over that it was unnatural for a girl to be so obsessed with superheroes.... (yes, a psychoanalyst told me this once.... ) and that it would be good if I had a little boy... which, as everyone knows, I eventually did! We now share the same interests (except that THING he has for Raven Symone!)

Needless to say I'm counting the DAYS till Spidey2!!! WooHOOOO!! :bounce: Yep, some things NEVER CHANGE!! :p

especially the ones done by my sons friend...he has done special comics for dell, Marvel, Malibu and others.....he is a great artist named Paul Pelletier....if you see his name on one you know it is a good job.....

Robin, the same thing happened to my dad. My grandmother threw out his old comics after he left home, and I'm talking about late 1930s/early 1940s very early appearances of Superman and Batman. I remember when I was about 11 or 12 going to visit and looking to see if I could find any but no luck.

Pumba, I know who you're talking about! And I agree, Paul is a great artist.

I read occasionally, but not the ones that are really popular. I like Knights of the Dinner Table and Liberty Meadows. Also like The Sandman and stuff like that.

Hey Obi-Wan...I used to own and manage a comic store...and my bf still works in one.... :scratchin

Spiderman,X-Men(and the vaious branches),plus a little known one called Hellblazer are favs

I collected them as a kid, then stopped when I got into high school. Then, in 1994, I picked up a couple of bargain issues in the supermarket, and began to wonder how my old heroes had changed in 20 years. I began going to all the comic shops in the East Bay of California and digging through their bargain bins, buying old DC comics - Superman, Batman, the JLA, etc. In 2001 I began buying new comics. I'm currently collecting JLA, JSA, Hawkman, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey, Teen Titans, Outsiders, Robin, and Aquaman. Plus I get Justice League Adventures and Teen Titans Go! for my son.

I'm getting into Teen titans now, mostly due to the cartoon

Does magnas count?

I used to collect comics, but it got too pricey. I remember when comics used to be $1.75. I went into the comics store recently and most were $2.99!

I have a few boxes of comics I'm going to sell on eBay one of these days.

Barry, I remember when comics were 35¢! Today, the cheapest ones are $2.25. No wonder I use the pull service at my local comics store for the 10% discount.

Courtasan, I'm not really into mangas, but I'd say they count.

Douglas, I read most of those also. May I also recommend a couple of favorites -- The Flash, definitely some of the best character-driven stories these days; and Astro City, which I recommend picking up in trade paperbacks, features some of the absolute best writing in comics ever.

In earlier times, SSB was BIG time collector.... have all but 42 issues of complete run of Batman... most of the Marvel keys, etc...

My real love growing up were the 100 page "Dollar Comics"... some of the Tarzan's my faves, even though I knew not the most collecting worthy...

On of my fave comic book shop stories.... when Wolverine #1 came out... SSB bought 20 mint copies, as a given that it would be a big one later... :)
