Another lovely day in Oklahoma. . .

I have grill envy! Generally we don't have the weather or size of yards to use a grill. We do in the heart of summer but many of us don't own a decent grill so we end up buying some cheap table top grill and giving ourselves food poising...

Micca, Twilight Sparkles:. Thanks. We built he house 30 yrs ago, our sons were 11, and 15. It is on higher ground so, we've never had a problem in the house. It's been a good fit for us, our 2 sons, 2 Ddsil, 3 grands, and 1 Retriever! The Dgds wanted ponies but, we didn't go there for them, too concerned about whom their CARE would have fallen on! wink, wink. They are still young maybe, when they are old enough we'll visit that possibility again. :)

Horses are WONDERFUL, but, yes, they are a lot of work and very expensive. Luckily, you have a nice water source, so that helps. Late preteen, early teen is a great time for kids to get into horses. Earlier than that, and typically you'll be doing all the work. Still, there's the question of who pays for all of that, though, before the kids are old enough to hold jobs.

Our son! winkl wink! After all he's their father...

Our DDs spent years riding/showing horses as they were growing up. Our horses were boarded at a stable in our town. Needless to say our budget for WDW trips was drastically reduced during those years. Now our oldest DGD says she wants "a pet horse." :)

The girl's wanted Newfoundland ponies when they were much younger. They are 10 & 8 now. We are smack dab in horse country here. No shortage of everything they'd need. We are both retired, and looking forward to more time spent with the grands. :)

I just learned to grill last summer! We've had a nice Webber gas grill for a while, but I'd always left that to DH. Now between both of us, we use it even more.

I still am waiting to learn to grill.....NOT!! Not when I have DH, brothers or sons to do it!! :teeth:

Did send middle DS a check in the mail just this week to buy a grill for the patio of their new home they will be moving in to next month. :)

By all means if someone else will do it for you, that's the ideal situation. I will say that I'm confused by the phrase "learn to grill." Maybe I'm doing it wrong but there's not much to it, especially if you have a gas grill. The main thing is not to overcook your food. Cook it the minimum time, remove from grill and let it rest. After a few minutes (5 min, maybe less) you cut into it to see if it looks done enough. The worst thing that can happen is you put it back on the grill for a minute or two. If you're doing charcoal/woodchips that whole thing that's another matter and I'd have to learn that too. :)

Actually I knew how to grill back in the day of charcoal, lighter fluid and matches but with all the knobs on grills bigger than my kitchen stove (and counter combine) I would have to "learn to grill"all over again! :rotfl:

What kind of weather and size of yard do you need? We call them barbecues here and absolutely everybody has one - you even see them on the postage-stamp sized balconies of high rise apartments. We cook on them year-round

Lol! I love it. Those grills are really expensive here. But looks like they might be worth it!

Well...maybe. While I respect the man in the boxers chugging whisky and grilling out in a snowstorm, it wouldn't be practical for me. For starters I wear briefs;)
Seriously, I don't like to cook outside when the weather isn't nice. If you're in a place where you wouldn't want to be outside for the half hour it takes to cook most things (I'm including the pre-heat time) it isn't all that practical. Sometimes I grill out in less-than-ideal weather and end up running in & out of the house 4-5 times going up & down the back porch stairs. Only a matter of time before I take a tumble.

Kitty 34, you need to come visit us. Our new backyard neighbor grills out half-naked at least 5 days a week. In fact, he is out there right now! I wonder if any chest hairs ever end up in their food?
