Ok, say you've already had an interview before a job was officially posted. They already said they wanted you back in for a 2nd interview but you have to fill out an application now the job is posted. The application is online only and you have to populate the "salary desired" field with a number. Not "negotiable," not leaving it blank (already tried both those). No idea what they are paying and no way to find out. Seems like you are in trouble either way--you can lowball yourself or run them off, or maybe, just maybe you will come in right where you need to be (scary odds).

So, what would you do?

I'd put the min that I'd be happy/tolerate working for.

I agree with icebrat, put in the min that you would be willing to accept and if the job is offered negotiate then...good luck!

I'd put in the average pay that position, if that is something you could live with. They will probably not pay you more than what you put down. Why would they if they know that you'd accept less?
