Animal Kingdom a major Flop!

look, if you just want to repeat Disney soundbites and fancy marketing slogans then feel free to however it is very much a zoo.

It might be somewhat of a zoo, but its not just a zoo. Would you normally find thrill rides, shows and parades at your local zoo? No, you wouldn't.

Disney would never have 3 major theme parks and then add a zoo.

AK is wonderfully themed and is much more than a zoo. Like one of the other previous posters showed us, it comes in right behind Epcot and DHS in attendance. I don't think AK would be that popular if it were only a zoo.

The first time we went to AK we were throughly underwhelmed but it was the park I had least planned for in advance. Rides are limited yes but like others have said there is more to the park than that. The 2nd time we went we had a great time. The best part of the park for us was going to conservation station and my older son spending 30 minutes talking to a cast member about animal bones etc. It truly is an exploration and we won't miss it when we go now. I haven't read all 27+ pages but if it was your first time you might want to give it another chance. :)

As a Brit it cost a heck of a lot of money to go over to Florida and we do so because the weather is great and the theme parks are vastly superior to what we have. Therefore when we roll up at a park that is half zoo half theme park rides, and the zoo bit isnt that good compared to other zoos and the theme park ride bit isnt as good as the other theme parks then your not gonna rate the place.

Sorry Melly, as a fellow Brit I have to disagree with you! I would much rather spend a day at DAK then ANY zoo in the UK. I personally find the mix of rides, shows, characters and animals to be just about right.

On our honeymoon we spent two and a half days there, and in August we will spend at least a day and a half. On our 2006 trip we also spent two days there. Festival of the Lion King is my favourite attraction at any of the Disney parks, and Expedition Everest is my favourite rides. On separate occasions we have spent over an hour watching the tigers and the gorillas, speaking in depth with the CMs. I have never had the same interaction from staff working at British zoos - they always seem to get bored of our questions!

Obviously you are entitled to your opinion but, for me, DAK beats any of our zoos hands down because of the mix of things to do (and I agree, it is not a zoo - I like WDWSearcher's description!).

Animal Kingdom could use some new attractions, but is a fantastic park. If your idea of touring is commado, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios may not be for you, but if you like to take time to smell the roses, then Animal Kingdom is a fantastic park filled with beauty and little treasures everywhere.

This seriously is one of the dumbest battles on the DIS thus far. I understand the topics of line hopping, pool hopping, and whatnot, but this is a battle over favorites. You mind as well be fighting over how red is better than blue.

Dont say this isn't a fight because 5 diffrent people felt the need quote the same person in lass than 10 posts. That's ridiclous. Not everyone likes DAK, not everyone ike MK. Move on.

I only quoted Melly as she put across the opinion "as a Brit" - I was simply putting across an alternative opinion "as a Brit" - not criticising anyone, just offering my differing opinion - certainly not trying to fight!

You and 4 others felt the need to pick her post apart. That sounds an awful like 5 against 1. You didn't attack her, but you didn't help the gaining up either. This sounds MUCH better.

I always say, "if you need a disclaimer in the post, rewrite it."

I actually don't feel that there was anything wrong with my original post! I wasn't ganging up on Melly at all, and I'm sure she wouldn't feel that way.

And, I didn't need to post a disclaimer at all...

Oh, and if you want to be picky, how does "As a Brit I have to I would much rather..." sound MUCH better?!

I don't feel like me warning you was wrong at all! I was simply watching out for Melly!

And HONESTLY, if you didn't need a disclaimer then why did you put one in!?

Also, adding "!!!!" to every sentence makes you sound harsh, and I don't think you mean to be. Now if I wrote what I just said as this:

"I don't feel like me warning you was wrong at all; I was simply watching out for Melly. And honestly, if you didn't need a disclaimer then why did you put one in?"

It sounds kinder, not like I'm screaming at you. That's what you did to Melly, I was simply letting you know how you come off.

It sounds better because you are stating your opinion without stating that you disagree with her. You can disagree, but be kind about it. Take out the "!!! and "STOP" capitalizing random words. If you feel the need to keep the "!!!" and THIS, then don't quote someone as it puts them on the defense. You just did it to me. How did you feel after reading the top of my post? It's not what you said, but how you said it.

Number 1 - I capitalised the same word that you did - MUCH - in order to make a point.
Number 2 - I do not need people to rewrite my posts - there was nothing nasty in what I wrote and I stand by my equal right to have an opinion. If you read a nasty tone into my post then perhaps you have some self-esteem issues?
Number 3 - I have used a minimal amount of exclamation marks. I have only used them singularly - I did, however, put an exclamation mark and a question mark together, once again in order to make a point.
Number 4 - I use the quote button to make it clear to whom I am referring - it makes following a thread on a forum much easier. I felt absolutely fine reading the quote from myself at the top of your post.

You stated in an earlier post that there was somebody else who made this thread an unpleasant place to be - as far as I can see, you are working very hard to create difficulties where none need to arise. As such, I will not be commenting on any more of your posts.

And fyi, my post actually wasn't aimed specifically towards you, but to the one person who feels the need to quote everybody who thinks DAK is less than amazing (the thread terrorist I referred to many posts back, who left the thread than randomly popped back up). Again, not you. I only included you in the 5 people because you quoted her. When you got all angry, you got me on the defense, and I threw stones back, and then you did the same. All I was saying in the previous posts was to be more compassionate in witting. !, !?, and THIS typically means yelling or sarcasm, which comes off as anger. I was simply letting you know.

Have a magical day. pixiedust:

Back on topic, while I don't think DAK is as good as any of the other parks, it is much better than any zoo I've been to. I simply wish they would make more of a theme park out of it.

Make it 126. We spent 2 days (of 7) at AK in December and felt we could have spent more time there. AK is the 6th most attended park in the country, passing DHS in the last few years. I went the year it opened and was disappointed. We arrived around noon and left at 4 to go to Epcot to eat. Each year I spend more time there and love it more each time. I'm not sure what you're hooked on, but I don't think it's ears.

Make it 127. We spent 2 days of 8 there in August and loved every minute. My son loves music and kept wanting to go find the performers. We sat in the shade and watched "The Tropicals" for about 30 minutes, had a cool drink, relaxed a bit and enjoyed great music. We took a lot of time to stop, smell the roses and enjoy the park, and still managed to get on Everest 11 times in 2 days.

Based on the content of her posts, I'm thinking Melly can watch out for herself. (Although she may have asked you to watch out for her at some point ... I may have missed that.)

As for why this thread keeps going on ... the discussion has been interesting for many, probably quite enlightening for some. For others, they've stopped by once, noted an opinion, and moved on. Others of us enjoy trying to get the last word. :rolleyes1 But if you don't want to read it any more, then just move on. We can continue without you and we'll be fine. No one is forcing you to keep reading. :littleangel:

:earsboy:

As for why this thread keeps going on ...

THAT is an easy one...because anyone who thinks that AK stinks or isn't enjoyable MUST have been dropped on their head as an infant. Multiple times.

Sheesh. Is that so hard for people to understand? :sad2:

Just thought I'd stop and visit this thread again. Still going strong...
Straws? Balloons? Animal scent *gasp!*? :lmao:

OK. I'll speak up here. It is not because the OP dislikes the AK. That's his opinion. Lots of people do, and hey, fewer people means less crowds and more rides on EE for me.

It's because the OP came in here and said it's "a flop" and "Disney has done nothing" and the other people saying that the AK is "gouging" guests. That, to me, says that anyone who has a different opinion must be stupid and have no taste and be gullible and so forth.

A post that said "My family didn't enjoy the Animal Kingdom" would have gotten much less heated responses.

I couldn't agree more!

imo it's the weakest of the parks, but it's not worthless by any means. It's a nice ambiance, and even if the animals are a little scarce sometimes, theyre still fun.
