An Embarrassing Dining Report

I'm sorry folks, I feel like I've let y'all down. I have been to WDW 5 times previously and eaten soo many places, reported on them, and read every single dining review there is every day here on DIS. We had our 6th trip planned with plenty of p.s/a.r's or whatever the lingo is these days, and then 2 weeks prior my best friend and her family decided to go with us and then I had to revamp the whole dining schedule. Turns out they were NOT too into the Disney sitdown prices, so I had to cancel some p.s. One of these reviews I hate to tell since a. I know it won't be popular b. Was one of my favorites so I hate to say negatives and I KNOW I'll probably catch grief from it but it's true......so here goes...

Le Cellier for dinner - we haven't been here in 2 years but have twice before and loved it. I ordered the prime rib both times and it was very good. First, the 15 and 17 year old kids of our friends didn't see anything on the adult menu that they'd like so I told them they could order off the child's menu as I have often read here. What we didn't know but found out was that for the EXACT same size portion, (which my 9 year old son received at the child's price, and we compared) the older kids were charged exactly double the price. It was double the price of a kid's cheeseburger meal for the same meal. We aren't the kind to make a fuss over that but in all honesty, why does it matter? If they are serving xxx oz. of a burger, and xxxoz. of fries, does it matter whether you're 3 or 33 consuming it? Then they really screwed up as I was concerned. I am a prime rib kind of gal. I've ordered it since my parents took me to fine restaurants when I was little. Seriously, my parents were older when they had me and I had manners and fine dining rules down by the time I was 4 or 5. I know my prime rib. I ordered theirs , (Le Cellier) yes, encrusted, have had that before locally and when you cut into it it is STILL prime rib folks~ What they tried to serve to me was NOT your normal "prime rib:". Those of you that have had prime rib know that there is a difference between that and a "steak". I told him that if I wanted a steak I would have ordred the filet (which they brought out to my friend who ordered it medium , very well done.) I am truly sad to write a bad report about this place...but want to shoot you straight,,,

1900 Park Faire-

Loved it. Prime rib was very good lol. Mashed and sweet potato mixture with gravy was awesome amd I never thought I'd ever like sweet potatoes but it was great. Strawberry soup is good and kids even tried mussels.

ESPN Club: It became our home away from home. Food was really good. And we sampled many things within our group. I for one give the Upper Deck Roast Beef sandwich with cheese a huge thumbs UP! MANY of our party LOVED the buffalo wings hot or flame sauce - nothing wimpy for us Louisiana folks ha ha. Actually, everything ordered here was good, the nachos, chicken sandwich, wings, and burgers. A really fun place.

Cantina in Epcot- still has really good taco salads just ask if you want ground beef instead of chicken, and TERRIFIC margaritas.

Yakitori House in Japan - Had been here and it was much better then. I felt bad that I lead my group here for lunch because I don't think anyone really enjoyed it.

Boardwalk Bakery - What can I say? Any place that has "Bakery" in the name works for me! :cheer2:

Beaches and Cream - teenage dd and best friend ate here and then we did as a family. No square, not Beaches and Cream Burgers I've sometimes read about here ( :earseek:  ) Just the same hot, juicy, and wonderful burgers and fries that we've always known. Milkshakes and ice cream still top notch. I talked to the waitress about their lack of space and if they could shift it around. (Ariel's only host private parties occasionally but takes up lots of space). She said they have beg and complained but they won't trade spaces and that the only way they will is if guests (hint hint) complain.

Rainforest Cafe in AK - We went to the RFC in DT Disney a few years ago and didn't have a very good experience so this was not in my plans but our friends wanted to go so we went! Like the atmosphere, food is only so so in all our opinions, I think the cheeseburger got the best reviews and we alllllll ordered different things so can't give this one more than an "ok" rating.

Thanks for the reviews, even if you are embarassed by it ;)

Interesting you say that about LeCellier. See, everyone I've known IRL that has dined there did not have a good exp, my mom had horrid service there once and refuses to go back - she says the food isn't very good, either, esp compared to places like Yachtsman and such, and their prices are high for what you get. So, since we usually dine at WDW with her, we've never been even though it gets rave reviews on the boards all the time. Though I'm sure I can twist her arm into trying it again, I just can't fathom going to Epcot and eating at a steakplace with all the other great ethnic places that I can't get at home there... esp for hit or miss dining. Is it bad to say that it's nice to see a negative review of it? I knew that my family/friends IRL couldn't have been the only ones not impressed, LOL!

I really can't believe they were charged double, though! Did you ask a manager about it? Or your waitress? Just for explanation?

=)

At a place like that, If I see prime rib, it better be prime rib. Not Choice or Select roast beef and not a steak.

At a place like Chef Mickeys or 1900, I'd expect it to be choice not prime and have it still called Prime Rib even though technically it isn't and shouldn't be called such.

The meaning of "Prime Rib" has been so dumbed down lately, I'm afraid to order it any more.

Charged double for the same exact portion? Ouch!!!

I guess I'll stick with Biergarten.

Thanks for the reviews. Sorry you were disapointed in LeCellier, we ate there this past December and just loved it. Maybe next time it will be better for you. I agree with you about the burgers at Beaches & Creme, they are so good......

Thanks for the reviews! I appreciate your candor.

No reason to be embarassed. I think everyone enjoys reading honest opinions. I know I do.

I'm curious about the double cost, too. If they charged you double, you should have had double the food! Did you ask for an explanation? Anyway, my husband and I aren't crazy about LeCellier either. For the prices charged, the meat should be better quality IOO. We had horrible service last time as well except for the runner who was extraordinary. Although we have also had excellent service.

We're going to have to try ESPN Club again one of these days.

And now you have me hungry for a taco salad! ;)

Thanks for your reviews.

Thanks for your comments. It is so funny that you replied Ali since I thought of you when I was "boozin" a bit around the World. LOL. I'm a DIS nut can you tell? The one thing I noticed was it was hard to even get a buzz from all the walking/sweating we were doing. $5.25+ a pop at that. :earboy2:

So that's what it's come to...people think of me when it comes to drinking alcohol around WS. *sigh*

Oh well, I'm honored I made an impression! :teeth: Are you going to do a trip report?

And yes, I totally get that last statement. Overpriced Disney Booze + sun + 100% humidity = An expensive buzzkill.

Don't worry Ali, it was meant as a compliment. I love your trip reports and when I read them I think,"Now there's someone I would get along well with at WDW." :teeth: As far as I'm concerned, you're :cool1:
