Does any one ever use Amtrak Guest Rewards to book their Amtrakto/from WDW? I am having trouble figuring out how the rewards work and if they are usable from upstate NY to Orlando. I am not currently a member but I see that Starwood points transfer to Amtrak rewards and I have quite a few of those...I thought that they might save me some money. Any advice would be great!

heads up on theamtrak guest rewards.
You need a membership per person. even husband and wife. didnt realize this until a couple of years ago when i went to use reward points.
we had been using amtrak for the last 15 years approx. I thought since i made all the reservations, paid all the fares, my account would get all the reward credit. for many years it was me, wife, son and daughter, then just my daughter. I get sick when i think of the points i lost through my own fault.
tried to reason with amtrak that it was a family unit, not a business environment with 10 or20 people in an office bulking up rewards on one card, but they said no.
wow, was i dumb or what.

on the other hand, when you have suffucient rewards for a trip, you book it through the rewards office, not the 800 USA-RAIL.
yes you can use rewards to get to Florida, I did.
There should be some additionalinfo on the amtrak website.
It was easy and accurate.

thats my story and i'm sticking with it.

p.s. now if you sign up for the amtrak guest reward master card, points can add up faster. there may even be a bulk of points just to open the account.
(if the government didn't change all the rules about credit last week)

So, if I open the Amtrak awards account, and I am the only one named on the account, the points can only be used for my travel? And, if the other family members want to accrue points, they need their own account? So, when we travel, and if four of us have accounts, we will all accrue separate points on our own accounts?

This is what I am thinking...I am planning our first Amtrak to WDW. I have a lot of Starwood Points that can be converted to Amtrak Guest Rewards (from what I have read) at a 1:1 ratio. So, if I join the Amtrak Rewards program and convert points from Starwood, they would probably just be able to be used for my portion of the ticket?

Thanks!

You can use your points to buy tickets for whomever you please. you will only get more points credited for your individual travel.

I was able to use my AMTRAK rewards points to purchase coach fare for DH & I as well as transport of our car on the AutoTrain. Both my DH and I have AMTRAK points cards and I also have the Amtrack Chase Cr Crd. I travel by train much more than DH, and I use my AMTRAK Cr Crd so I was able to rack up enough points on my card to cover both of us. Anytime we travel by train he gets his own points and I get mine. Hope this helps

We use them all the time.
I am from the Boston area and use 20000 for a large bedroom or 15000 for a viewliner bedroom. That would probably be the same from New York as well. You can have two people in the rooms.
Amtrak has a credit card offer...They will give you 5000 to 16000 points for getting their credit card.
