Just curious how much maple syrup is used on a daily basis. I thought of the question just because it’s a national symbol on your flag.

Ha! That's the maple leaf, not maple syrup. I would highly, highly doubt Canadians are actually using it on a daily basis the way we use, say, salt or sugar. There may be some, I suppose. There are probably many, many more that have never actually had it at all.

Canadians, do you learn about the Pig War (1859 San Juan Island dispute) in school or is it never really mentioned? I don’t remember it being talked about in school here in the USA.

I only learned about the Pig War a few years ago when we sailed to the San Juan Islands. Had a great Pig War Martini in Roche Harbor and still have a cute pig souvenir that came with it!

Maple syrup is usually just on pancakes.. but - I have had a great twist on a white Russian cocktail at a Canada day party.. cold brew coffee, cream, vodka and maple syrup, served over ice.

It usually is. I found a great thing maple syrup is amazing on. Ice Cream.

I wasn’t trying to do anything, honest. I just found out about it (the anniversary is coming up), and given its proximity to Canada, I figured you guys might know more about it than most Americans.
